  1. The players can spend the whole off season in Darwin for all I care. We belong at the G, all our 11 home games should be played at the MCG. Just is a pointless hassle to play home games in Darwin. Just make money by trying to fill the MCG. If we want to grow a fan base in Darwin, then let's encourage them to get to the MCG, where we're meant to be.
  2. I went to the Bentleigh club a few times and liked it except one of the times they wouldn't show the game in the main area (which has at least a few screens) with the bar and instead was reverted upstairs in a small, quiet room with a handful of depressed supporters sitting on chairs in front of a projector screen. Hopefully that atmospheric glitch was mended, and we got thrashed by the Lions too
  3. I thought McKenzie was slightly poor in 2012, liked him better in the previous two years. And he has some competition for spots now, but I think he's really hard at it and will be a great inside player as long as he stays there
  4. The term "premiership window" has connotations of tanking.
  5. I used to say 'Trengrove' for a little while (a few months pre and post draft) but I think that's the only mistake I've ever made. I used to think Shannon Byrnes was Brynes though. I've continually seen Clarke, Pettard and Taggart . I never even got Wonaeamirri wrong, among a sea of Wonaemirri's and Wonaeamiri's. A bit off topic, but I've heard people at games exchange Bennell for Jetta and vice versa
  6. I want him in our 22, plain and simple. Still pretty quick and I think largely forgotten among young guys who turn it over regularly. He tried a lot harder than some of his team mates in certain games
  7. It's not just Neitz who gets underrated, it's also other players who've retired in my lifetime as a footy supporter- Schwarz, Yze, Junior, Robbo, Bruce and now Green- all really good, passionate players who I consider champions of the Dees. Everyone gets far too excited about high picks who often turn out to be duds. At this stage the only player for us being up with that group is Jones (or definitely will when he retires) We built a forward line around Neitz in our mostly successful Daniher era, he had a lead to die for, was a fantastic kick and had a huge impact on games. Leading games and goals holder for the club. In the ranks of pure key forwards, there's not THAT many better than him in the game's history I'd say.
  8. Rivers was a free agent and had a fantastic 2012 season. What are you talking about????
  9. I'm not a fan of players being in the shadow of former players. Barassi is not the be all and end all of Melbourne. I didn't even see the musical. Let Grimes become a champion, I hope he is better than Barassi by the end of his career, I hope all of our players are. I'm pretty sure Grimes won't change clubs near the end of his career either. I doubt wearing 31 will change his game. He is not gonna be looking at his back when he has to take an important mark or lay a tackle.
  10. Pretty unhappy to be honest, why honour barassi now when it'll be Grimes' 6th season and his 2nd as captain. He's a 23 year old who I'm sure has already popularized 16 among supporters and made it his own. To be honest, it's just an excuse to take a picture, shake his hand and have a little article written. Why didn't we give him 31 from the start? Oh that's right, because the number was occupied by Paul wheatley who was an underrated handy player who no one compared to Barassi.
  11. It's pure guilt. If anything the surrendering should make the penalty worse. I mean if you have that hanging over your club for a few years and think it's ok then you should stick up for it now. Fight it. At least keep your attitude consistent
  12. Barely anyone complained until GWS and Gold Coast turned up. There's your answer. But why not make it completely random who plays who? Then no one could complain, except maybe about the fact that there may only one derby/ Carlton V Collingwood. Of course you'd have to convince the corporate low lives who care more about money. Every team playing each other once wouldn't be ideal for mine. I'm used to the length of the season and wouldn't want it to shorten due to the fact I like footy in large quantities.
  13. I still think he'll go forward again. He's not a great man on man defender but he is extremely good as a loose man but he'll be forced to body up eventually. You may say our forward line is too full now, but our defence is even more so. Gillies, Dunn, McDonald, Garland, Frawley, Sellar are all tall defender size (191cm or over), plus Joel Macdonald and Grimes and that's 8 backmen who we'd have in mind of playing. I think Watts will have a better chance to make an impact at half forward
  14. I too have noticed these good looking female supporters. Don't take this "sexism" too seriously, most of us look for these women in everyday settings and to have them in the same colours is a bonus. There's plenty of old women Dees who won't be getting toots or whistles let alone be able to hear them but have so much heart and passion. Plus, saying that you notice how many female supporters are at the games sort of suggests that it's surprising and they should be turned off footy more than men. I think it'd be more appropriate to mention when you see a large portion of a certain ethnic or social background show up. I'll be continuing to look out for such attractive girls at the G in 2013. But at the end of the day, i'd rather have an ugly 65,000 at our games than a beautiful 15,000...I think
  15. -New tanking allegations. - A regretfully tattooed Nathan Jones appointed as coach - Players can go to and from clubs any time. - Free kicks for touches in wrong places - 9 on the field, 13 on the bench to reduce congestion. - Goal keepers and players who can only stay in the centre square -Social media player ban - 20 teams. - Thread about what footy with be like in 2048
  16. What about Sam Lonergan? He got delisted and I always thought he was a decent, hard midfielder
  17. Taggert's a real mystery, but I hope he gets some games next year. It's good to know he's big. But I reckon players look far more muscular in person or when up close. I remember seeing Jack Watts before his first game, and thought he actually looked muscular and in a really good shape. And I'm always surprised when I give Mckenzie or someone a pat after the game to see he's actually quite big.
  18. I just can't foresee it, unfortunately. Had we had a similar fixture (12/14 to start at the G) a couple of years ago I'd say we'd a shoe in, but our form at the G this year really hit an all time low. Add to the fact that we haven't won in Round 1 for an eternity, and losing in Round 1 to an interstate team last season certainly shook us up for a long period. I'd be surprised if I turn up to the Port Adelaide match and not see Melbourne errors. I'm just really glad that we'll look like a new team more than ever this year, so at least I hope we make different mistakes
  19. We need a consistent backman who can use the ball and make decisions as well as use the body well- Rivers was our only one. We need to set up a proper midfield who work together and run together. Apart from Jones no midfielder had a good season, I think Viney and Rodan will help with the clearances. An outside midfielder who gets into good positions would help too A forward line which can stay in position (was a huge problem when Clark got injured).
  20. First 4 games will be magnificent to get us started. I'm guessing we'll need to have 7 wins out of our first 14 to keep our supporters interested for the last 8 games! Regardless it'll be great to go to the G 12/14 weeks. Pretty happy about our fixture and it appears our away games against Brisbane, GWS and Adelaide will all be on FTA tv. And possibly the Brisbane game in Darwin too?
  21. I observed our training session today, and was quite impressed with what I saw. The boys looked very tuned in to what they were doing and were moving quite freely. Get those rugby posts down though. Mind you, I only caught 5 seconds of it from a train going past Richmond
  22. Brains. We took the easy route with Bailey, the way we went about our footy became embedded in the culture. Too much "we'll be good in 3 years so we may as well do hardly anything now" And that attitude has set us back at least 4 years.
  23. [/q Which is the same reason why I want us to win more than 1 game next year
