  1. I wonder if they have opened a general soreness unit, or perhaps a list management unit or an unfaithful unit?
  2. OUT- Grimes, Trengove, Frawley Let's let those 3 know that a better work rate and decision making is required to be at AFL standard and you cannot just take your position for granted and not show the likes of leadership and heart that Jones displays. I'd drop about 10 other players too and see what mud at the bottom we have left to put on the MCG. Because I doubt they'll do worse
  3. My faith in Neeld decreased after last weekend. Our lack of positioning was frightening. Where was our forward line? When we went inside 50 on Saturday it was to no one or one or two small players. At one point I remember Trengove, Bail and Jetta being inside 50. Disgraceful. Typical to have Trengove inside 50 when he can do little more than jog around. Rivers was mainly in the back line, and I hardly spotted Garland or Martin at all. Why are Howe and Dunn in the back line when I'm sure they could take a mark inside 50? Does Neeld know anything about where players go?
  4. Great names you have raised. I'd certainly like Shannon Byrnes, we are in desperate need of a small forward and he has been pushed out of the Geelong side this season despite playing the majority of the time in their recent successful years.
  5. I'm not sure really. I'm not completely confident in the future or where improvement will come from, but my interest or passion for the club will certainly not wane. I'll keep turning up and every match and cheering. I mean what's the point in supporting a club in the first place if you are going to give up? It's like having a child really
  6. I was sitting just behind the cheer squad today, really made for a brilliant atmosphere despite the venue and poor crowd- well for 3 quarters at least. Very disappointing, I didn't think the dockers played THAT well but rather our problems resurfaced such as horrid kicking to the half forward flanks. The worst part was seeing our lead evaporate and such momentum shut down in the last quarter- injuries and inexperience and umpiring weren't excuses either, just poor disposal and run
  7. 6- McKenzie- really tough and generally good disposal 5- Martin- kicked a couple early and looked promising then had the burden of all the rucking on him- but did a good job- possibly best game of his career? 4- Rivers- Didn't kick a goal in the forward line, didn't have much of the footy but really contributed well 3- Sylvia- Heaps of clearances and movement but did go missing at times 2- Green- Looked like a dangerous forward target, I think he's still a necessity in our side 1- Blease- Two great goals, especially the second one. Never seems to get much of the ball but he's so dangerous A host of others also were goodish, pretty even spread among the side
  8. For those who are interested and those criticizing McKenzie's kicking, I think this is very intriguing: 2011- 15 games- 83 kicks, 217 handballs (Avg 20 possessions) Avg Tackles: 6.7. Frees 24 Frees against 16- McKenzie was one of our best few for the season (despite the injury), hard at it contested player who everyone was happy about. 2012 so far- 13 games- 110 kicks, 96 handballs (Avg 15.8 possessions) Avg tackles: 5.8. Frees 19 frees against 26 As you can see the stats have dropped but his kick to handball ratio has dramatically changed. Has Neeld instructed him to kick more and become more of an outside player? From what I concur McKenzie is better when handballing more
  9. Well it was just bad luck he played really, he may not get another game but I guess they thought bringing him in was the logical thing to do with Jamar out (I don't think it was). His future is doubtful though with about 5 ruckmen/possible ruckmen on our list ahead of him, so if he does get another game he better reassure himself that he is playing for his career (unless footy isn't what he wants to do and he'd rather be a Journalist, then voluntarily leave and become a Journalist spenco). In his 9 career games he has never played in a winning side
  10. I think we made a mistake in not making him captain this year, however I still think we shouldn't keep changing our captains around. Just let it play out. As long as Jones keeps playing like he does, not un-captain like when you think of Jobe Watson i.e winning the disposals every week and being our best player, I'm happy. Plus, what is the update with him and Jamar?
  11. Martin was decent in the hit outs but his disposals were misleading, he fumbles constantly and does tiny little kicks. Martin is an able replacement but Jamar is still far, far better. As for Spencer I don't think he needed to play and if McDonald wasn't injured he would've been subbed out at half time. Spencer will only ever be a decent VFL ruckman. He can't get the ball, kick properly (and non awkward), mark or any other basics at AFL standard. The only thing he has on his side are his height and some ok tap skills. Very lucky to get a game, we should have played Bennell for another runner. Trengove needs to be dropped/rested as he plays like his legs are concrete pillars. Blease was quite dangerous, and should have kicked 4 instead of 2 (which would have helped his cause a lot to stay in the side). Grimes tried hard but he needs to get his disposal back to scratch. Watts was not as good as usual, but still alright and one of our best today
  12. 6- Joel "Am I the only one who thinks he's alright" MacDonald 5- Jeremy "One of the few who knows" Howe 4- GORD Mckenzie 3- James "The Magnet" Magner 2- Jack "loose back" Watts 1- Colin "Doesn't turn up to play every week but is immensely talented (Or DTUTPEWBIIT for short)" Sylvia Worst players: Rohan "he should" Bail, James "Soggy chip sold at the MCG" Frawley, Lynden "over" Dunn, Matthew "Trade" Bate, Jake "VFL (Very fair liability)" Spencer and Jack "Come on Trengove do better" Trengove. A note to the worst players, there is always next week to redeem yourselves. Well not always, only sometimes. Also a mention to Jack "Bad times" Grimes to fix his disposal up. TALKING POINT FOR THE WEEK: Will Sam "Looks like Tin tin" Blease be dropped again after another fair effort? Could Neeld dare do it again? Hope Tom "McDonalds" McDonald is alright and we are back to our MCG best against Richmond next week, I think we'll be a chance. G.O D.E.E.S (Genuine Observation: Does Everyone else Salivate?)
  13. 6- Jones- Gave Scully a couple of bumps early which foreboded the rest of his game, hard at it, burst through packs, led our clearances, surely will be B&F this year 5- Clark- In his half on the field, not only did he kick 4 but he was a force inside 50, his 4 goals in the first quarter portrayed his beautiful set shot kicking 4- Watts- As comfortable as I've seen him, and that play where he did that beautiful kick inside 50 was spectacular 3- Rivers- Looks like he can be a permanent forward, very strong mark and his kicking for goal is better than I thought 2. Grimes- Another good game with plenty of run 1. Sylvia- 2 goals and 23 possessions, his best game of the year. He just needs to do it against better teams McDonald just misses out, he was very hard at it and roamed around the back of the play, but just needs to be cleaner. Davey is worth a mention cause he had a good second half
  14. I don't really get the point of this thread, if anything Magner hasn't been playing enough in the middle and hasn't had enough opportunity to get the disposals he is capable of. Seriously, is his disposal that bad? I haven't noticed. I think he is a good honest hard player who should be playing more in the centre instead of the wings.
  15. Sat behind the goals (ish) in the first level at the city end. Big Melbourne contingent there or at least seemed so. Some amazing scenes i'd never seen from the cheersquad and other fans before
  16. Maybe Frawley might be put as an emergency and come back for GWS? No disrespect to Frawls but our back 6 was fantastic, Joel MacDonald and Sellar did great, surprising jobs on their opponents. Dunn would be the obviously dropped player since he was sub but I'd give him another go. Morton was pretty good too. So in short, i'd seriously be happy to field the same side even if Frawley and Bartram are fit
  17. Would just like to touch on players such as Moloney, Sylvia and Green, who coincidentally were all unfairly bagged, asked to leave etc. during the week on this forum. There is a place for experience in this side. Moloney and Sylvia both showed plenty of passion tonight and I'd like to see them both in our team every week. They are both very skilled players, and how good was Sylvia's snap goal!! Hopefully Moloney stays at the club and Sylvia has a fantastic remainder of year. And Look at Jared Rivers, he kept quiet for a couple of years but now, aged 27, he's had a fantastic year and looks as flawless as a defender as i've seen. As for Green there has been talk of his retirement at the end of the year. One thing for sure is that I'm happier to see him on the field than not, he has been one of my few favourite players for many years and I hope there's good vibes between him and Neeld and Green himself can decide when he wants to head off (Ideally end of 2014-2015 i.m.o, still think there's more devleopment to come which he can lead in the next few years). We don't want another James McDonald or Russell Robertson situation either. Our successful patch in 2010 saw the fruitation of younger players, when 30+ year olds Bruce and McDonald were getting tons of the ball and having an impact. I still think Davey can provide something as a defensive forward, and Jamar is still going quite well and getting tons of hitouts. So before you have a go at the older fellas, as easy targets they may be when we lose, just remember what they have done for the club and think about how all the games they have played can be of only a beneficial impact on the younger ones.
  18. Nah, Blease and McDonald both beat Gold Coast in Round 23 last year I'm pretty sure..oo seems so long ago that game. Such a sunny late-in-season nothing game
  19. 6- Garland: Suited so well as a forward tonight, and of course kicked those two fantastic goals. Will he become a permanent forward? He certainly has capabilities. Underrated as a defender but after tonight he is now recognised as a very good player at the club. His phone will be buzzing all night. 5- Jones: His toughness is outstanding, his clearance work and run seems to be getting better and better. Great banana goal, seriously what an amazing player Jones is 4- Watts: Was worried when I saw him 1-on-1 with Watson late in the game but he did awesome. His skills are looking good. Definitely played a better semi-loose defender role than Fletcher at the other end. 3- Grimes- Best game of the year. Run off half back and through the middle. Dare I say- Played like a captain 2- Rivers: Another fantastic game in defence, he has been surprisingly good this year 1-Sellar: Looked very comfortable in defence and beat Ryder in some contests and kept him from being a threat inside 50. Also had a fair bit of the footy Few others such as Nicholson, Tapscott, Trengove, Moloney and Sylvia are worth mentioning (the latter two have been much maligned but showed real heart and contestual class
  20. He was far better as a defender than i've seen as a forward/ruck. He could hardly get a touch in that role and he got 18 possessions tonight and kept Ryder out of the game completely
  21. Hurley can't kick and melted under pressure in that last quarter, Watts on the other hand, stayed cool and won a couple of one on one contests at crucial times
  22. MacDonald definitely deserves another game because he's not as bad as our supporters say he is. I'm glad Sylvia is back, but I hope it's "good sylvia" not "soft and pretender Sylvia" who is back in the side this week. I hope "Good Moloney" turns up to play as well he's been out for a few weeks
  23. He's hardly played any footy in his three seasons at Carlton, yes I liked him for a while with us but he's past his time, he'splayed his best footy of his career with us. Even though he had 33 possessions he still looked slower than ever
  24. I'm with you on Lucas Cook. Let's just throw him in (as we did with Watts when he began) and see how he goes. He's not injured, I've seen him in the VFL and he would add another tall target. If he's no good, sub him out and drop him but he might surprise with one or two goals. Plus getting games into him earlier will only help his reputation. Maybe Trengove out (but perhaps only for a week to revitalise) but Grimes stays in. Trengove's been well down on form but I still think Grimes is playing alright
  25. Our kicking for goal just wasn't there, we had enough chances to kick a big score today, we missed heaps of goals on the run from inside 50. If only Clark was a little better at his set shots but more time as a key forward and that will come. Dunn hardly looked like scoring and Green was off, we really need more goals from midfielders such as Moloney, Trengove and Jones who have all kicked good goals at important times on their day but just didn't contribute enough
