  1. I hope Blease contests the ruck with Sandilands. It'd be a great learning experience for him and hopefully develop him for the future. GO THE FILM STRIPS! I mean Demons!!!
  2. Surely Stefan Martin will be up for trading- Would any club take a look at him? I can't help but think Sellar is in front of him now in the ranks. Bate and Dunn would probably be less attractive but with Moloney we have a little worth . Anyway I think we should target Aaron Edwards- capable of kicking lots of goals, accurate set shot but has just fallen out of favour with the Roos. As well as Shannon Byrnes. Both are 28 i'm pretty sure but in my opinion there are a lot of gems who are outside of the best 22 at top 8 clubs that we should look at
  3. No, I think everyone who is criticizing Green's leadership are the ones who need to apologise. He's a club legend for god's sake, with his experience he couldn't have been as terrible as people are saying he is. I can't see how our Captains this year have done a better job than Brad did, but our last deserved Captain was definitely James McDonald
  4. Yes. So do all of our defenders. MacDonald was definitely our best defender against Adelaide, could actually get his hands into a contest
  5. I will wait, as I have waited with Bailey (Who I thought I'd be waiting with). And I'll wait with our next coach who may be appointed in 2 years after a demoralizing loss. Neeld may not be the epitome of coaches. Sure he has a good resume, and so did Bailey. Maybe Neeld's game plan will never work. I await the future and of course I desperately want Neeld to succeed but I fear time may beat him, he is not a god, he may be even be a sub par coach. If we win 4 games against next year surely you won't have the same confidence about him.
  6. Neeld is driving a new game plan that clearly isn't working for our players. Under Bailey we looked quicker and at least could keep a forward structure and transition the ball. Don't tell me you didn't see our dominant performances in the last couple of years as stepping stones for the club, but rather "False positives"? I know it's easy to criticise Bailey now but just think of all the positive team performances and player development under him. And on to the game plan, we have been kicking too wide this year, constantly turning the ball over with useless disposal and ever since Clark's been injured no one has been able to kick consistent goals in the way Green, Petterd (I wonder if Neeld likes him), Bate or Dunn used to. This game style's killed many of our forwards We don't have a consistent group of defenders either. Frawley looked elite under Bailey but has been lacking confidence all year. Garland played well forward for 2 weeks but now doesn't seem to play well in either. Trengove, Moloney, McKenzie and Sylvia all seemed like a very capable midfield group. Jamar hasn't been the same. Jones, Howe, Rivers and Blease- our only 4 players who are looking good under Neeld.
  7. Look, it's so easy to say that now. But face it, how else would've Bailey been shown the door? If we were competitive in that game he'd still be coach. There'd be no reason for him to be gone. Don't underestimate how much that loss rattled the club. It was a HUGE loss of course it was reason enough to sack him. It could be a blessing that he is gone, but I haven't seen it yet, I wasn't too fazed with the decision because I thought we'd actually make good progress under Neeld. But all I've seen so far is a game plan not fit for 90% of our players, our club's reputation going downhill, and from what our players and Neeld say there seems to be nothing wrong and we are just "rebuilding". The players are less competitive than ever, and are giving up. Surely Neeld would know how to lay down the law on that, but no. I've definitely seen more 4-quarter efforts under Bailey
  8. Everyone seems insistent that Bailey was a terrible coach. Face the facts, we were playing much better footy in 2010-2011. It was one loss that undid Bailey, sure we were inconsistent but this year we have been consistently non competitive and far more players are out of form. What reason is their to believe Neeld is a better coach? We obliterated some teams last year, all we can really praise is our essendon win which was a fantastic defensive performance but largely due to comical essendon mistakes.
  9. If the Swans beat the Cats in the afternoon they'd be confident of finishing 6th as they and Roos would probably be able to gain the percentage over the Cats. Still the whole idea is presuming the Hawks beat the Eagles and the Pies beat the Bombers. Anyway I hope they tank because if we win we could move up past the Dogs and maybe Port by percentage!
  10. I don't think it's a huge deal, all I was upset about is that they stopped it for a while before realising Green wasn't making his way off for a little longer, so they played it again but didn't stop it again. So it was very amateurish but I wasn't shockingly offended or anything, and Brad has been my favourite player for half of my life
  11. I made it up. Please remember that this is a public forum. You're lucky i'm still talking about footy
  12. Well Watts is definitely a better kick and can get more possessions, but Naitanui is tapping the ball, slapping the ball, he's around the ball so much. When he goes up for a mark he always looks like marking it. There was a brilliant passage on Saturday night around the WC goals where he just looked like a machine trying to get the ball out. Naitanui plays more like his life depends on it I must say. However I'm very happy Watts is at our club and have never felt that it was a wrong decision, now what matters is whether to keep him back or play him forward. He's a good mark, a great kick but probably just has to improve his lead and strength in contests
  13. All I could've asked from Neeld was to win more than 8.5 games this season, which I'm sure many of us would have thought wise. But no, the rebuilding BS surfaces again and our team looks worse than ever, our game plan isn't working, most of the players are badly out of form. Truth be told, I miss our explosive bursts under Bailey and the reason I was happy for Neeld to arrive is because I thought he'd be better. He's chopped the team up too much, experimented with players, who don't look like they're playing with confidence. At least under Bailey we had really good patches and in both 10-11 we were finals chances for a sizable portion of the year. If I don't see some serious action from Neeld and the team next year I don't want him to be coach, if he believes in finishing at the bottom for 5 years to become good then f*** him. I don't want draft picks, I want wins. People who think picks are better than wins should be injured in a house fire. Because here's two words- TOM SCULLY. We need real players playing for our club, loyal guys who play together well as a group, such as Neitz, Yze, Bruce, McDonald and Green. The only thing that the club won't lose is my loyalty because I love going to the footy to support us no matter what.
  14. From his first 2 years I thought he was gonna be an absolute gun. Can you believe that his highest possession game for the year was 23 last week V GWS? 23 and he's played every game this year in the guts. Just has to get his hands on the ball a bit more. If he has problems with his pace he'll have to read the ball from stoppages a bit better. I'd love to see him start getting 25-30 touches. He's still showing some good signs every now and then but he just looks like an average player
  15. One of the worst performances I've seen from Frawley but all our defenders. We couldn't keep position. We didn't double-team Walker or Tippett, they took marks at extreme ease and ran all night. 27 marks between them! Walker could've kicked 8 goals easily. McDonald was alright but no match for Tippett. I think Frawley's had a worse year because we keep alternating him between talls and smalls when he should always be playing on talls and if we aren't going to develop him into a big defender may as well play Rivers back again
  16. Welcome! Please don't get weak legs on the journey that is being a Melbourne supporter! I hope you can make it to Melbourne one day and REALLY learn what footy is about! You don't know the start of it!! I've sat near Americans at the MCG a few times before and am always fascinated to hear what they think of the game. One of the real joys of footy, it's like they have just been born into the world. Also, spread the red and blue word. Hopefully you can give the game a name there as too many people here are into American sports these days
  17. No, 22 games is perfect. No one was saying any of this until this year, and this has been largely due to GWS' and Gold Coast's presence. If the AFL is so sure on having them in the league they can't compromise any of the fundamentals as it changes the true value of footy. We'll just have to wait until the teams are more evenly matched which will be painful for attendances and footy watches but one day these sides will be accepted as equal teams. I'm not in to radical change in football, just smarter fixturing, like the teams who play each other twice must be close in ladder positioning to the other from the previous season. I didn't warm to the 6-game rounds in the middle of the season, there were plenty of junk games in that period and it was a real lull.
  18. I didn't like Gysberts being dropped after 1 game, however I think Bate can't keep going in and out, this preseason Neeld needs to find our best 22 to play in Round 1 and we need to stick with them. Enough swapping and switching, successful sides play their same 22 every week (barring injury and suspension) and stick with it. Watts, Garland, Frawley, Rivers, Grimes, Trengove, Sylvia, McKenzie, Clark, Howe, Jamar and Jurrah should be the core of this (although Jurrah has the complications)
  19. When he took that screamer in the square against Hawthorn in 09 and then attempted to kick it off his backside and missed the ball completely, I think that was a sign the end was coming
  20. Seriously, no Jamar? He may have deteriorated as a forward target and around the ground but he's a beast in the ruck, usually gets way more hitouts than his opponent. By the way, what has happened to Magner? Everyone loved him in the preseason, he dominated the first 2 games and everyone kept loving him. He has been nowhere near that since but surely he should still get a game and not be in emergency/sub limbo. Is it because Neeld moved him to be a more defensive sort of player? I've seen great toughness from him but maybe it hinders his impact on games. I think we should throw Magner in a more key midfield role again and see if he has the same impact again. Am I the only one who's not too sure about Frawley? He's fallen short this year for mine. He doesn't look as comfortable using the ball in defence and isn't as good a 1-on-1 defender as he has been in the past two seasons. Hopefully he can fix this over the preseason, though
  21. "Moneyball?" Sorry I don't speak in that ape dialect. Are you suggesting we recruit baseball players or roll up money into a ball and hand it to the cream of our beloved competition?
  22. Several players have performed quite well this season, Jones, Howe, Watts, Rivers, Blease, Clark and Garland and J-Macdonald in parts. Grimes and Trengove have been a little down of expectation but still ok. However I hope we can build our list around those sort of players, obtain maybe 3-4 in trade week, draft wisely. I'd suggest we look for some elite ball users and another key forward, or otherwise just train really hard on our skill work in the coming preseason
  23. Really hope he sorts out his personal issues and has another crack next year. We need forwards who can kick goals and he has kicked 81 in his 36-game career
  24. It's certainly an idea to throw up, we seem to have too many defenders and it could give us more of an even spread. It's also a role where disposal isn't as crucial. 194cm isn't too short for a 2nd ruck, Leigh Brown is 194 (fittingly on our coaching staff) and was great at it for the Pies in the last couple of years. If you have a very strong body and/or a better than average leap it's definitely not too short. However I have seen good signs from Tom in defence and he just needs cleaner disposal and as i've said before a Jamar/Clark ruck combo (About an 80-20 split) is the way to go but considering their sensitivity to injuries then who knows
  25. 6- Green- Brilliant game, could be back into his 2010 form. Easily our most able forward target 5- Jones- Continued to dominate, also held Ablett out of the game in the second half at least partially 4- Tapscott- Best game of his career, really made an impact in all areas 3- Howe- Flew around as usual and got plenty of the ball, 6 contested marks! 2- Dunn- Best game he's played in defence, great disposal, long kicking and speed 1- MacDonald- Really improved after being dropped regularly, he's starting to be that great medium defender we need Grimes, Sylvia, Moloney and Garland were also worth mentioning, as was Spencer who I think is improving and is looking less clumsy
