  1. He undid more good work than he created, but it's a fair point, Clark and Dawes have both been surprising signings over the last couple of years and are great foundations, full credit to Neeld for convincing them, although we do need to see them plus those other players fit and playing together and judge if it really is a good backbone
  2. Tynan would have to be in trouble, Davis too. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Bail, Nicholson, Jetta, Tapscott and Strauss. I think all of them would be more likely to be moved on ahead of Blease. I personally wouldn't mind keeping Jetta, Nicholson I think is a little hard done by, but along with Tapscott and Bail they just haven't shown enough in their careers. Tapscott in paticular, his first two AFL games were his top 2 possession games. Has barely seen the ball in the 16 games he's played this year, not been a dangerous enough forward and even has lost some of that aggression. Strauss has had so many injury issues it's hard to know if its worth persisting. If I had my way, Pedersen and Byrnes would go as well as Gillies and probably Sellar. Then again with Joel Macdonald going we'd want to look at another defender. I would've probably wanted Dunn to depart a month or two ago but he's JUST won me back. Couch is done, but I'm hoping Magner stays put. Taggert might go too. Jamar was very underwhelming in the games he played this year, but he's still of some value to us. (Not sure what that means for Gawn and Spencer though, especially Gawn who would probably be 3rd ruckman in line and hasn't proved a good enough 2nd ruck)
  3. "Hold on, we'll be done soon" Also on the 2014 membership card: Fist-sized punching hole for when you receive your scarf
  4. Well, at least it'll be easier to tank now. Just keep rotating players on and off and giving away 50s and goals
  5. At least having Clark on the field gives us some forward structure, so i'm looking forward to that, as well as Hogan, but to be honest I can't see too much improvement coming. Hope we just thoroughly examine what is wrong and just train accordingly. A lot of work on skills and quick ball movement through the middle is needed. Players like Trengove and Grimes (our captains, mind you) need to be more accountable and hopefully they are told that. I don't really care if we clean out the list is done but I hope a smarter cleanout this time. I already feel distanced enough from Byrnes, Rodan, Gillies and Pedersen and find it hard to believe they're Melbourne players. So there may be more surprises. Our ruck situation will be interesting. What i'd like is a good small defender and a good small forward. Another good "all round" midfielder would be nice, or just a really hard one (Viney can't get underneath all the packs). All I know is, huge mistakes have been made to cover lesser mistakes and anything could happen to this erratic corpse of a club (that i'm still passionate about and am in attendance at every time) but it'll most likely be another devastating year. If we are playing at a 2010-2011 level in passion, then I'll be very glad, even if the results don't come. Attitude in defeat has been a huge problem this year
  6. Although I think Chapman's a lot better than Byrnes and Rodan, Byrnes and Rodan have sort of put me off this idea of picking up an oldie from a successful team
  7. Toumpas needs some evasive skills, a harder edge and more of an attacking mindset before I'm gonna get excited about him as a midfielder.
  8. No huge standouts. 6- N Jones (By no means his best game, but was quite creative and ran hard) 5- McKenzie (Fought hard all game on Dangerfield, who unluckily got a few cheap kicks but his impact was limited) 4- Sylvia (2 goals, seemed to get in and under a bit more than usual) 3- Watts (Attitude was a lot better than last week, looked dangerous at times) 2- Dunn (Was quite an innovator early on, disappointing later on but still a decent game) 1- Toumpas (Best game for the club, promising quick disposal and movement, unfortunately marred by a couple of poor efforts)
  9. If the prospect of Casey finals are stopping deserved Melbourne young players on getting a game, I don't want Casey in the finals
  10. He looks like one of the biggest liabilities in football history, and originally played like one, but at least he has a clue how to run, lead and mark. It'll be hard to fit him in the team if everyone's fit so he'll probably need some even better performances. Tries pretty hard too. Good on you Fitzy
  11. Looks like he's angry the ball isn't being kicked to him...oh wait, it's in his hand! Most of our players would still miss a target that big
  12. It'd be disappointing if we settled with Craig. There was clear improvement in perhaps the first three games he coached, but I haven't seen enough to suggest it'd be a good choice. He seems to be a better figure than Neeld to guide the players, but the fact that we've only seen very subtle changes in ball movement, Watts loose in defence (and Craig defending it) as well as conservation football late in games and poor selection choices doesn't give me a good impression about him being able to help us become something different. Hasn't been as aggressive an innovator for change as i'd hoped.
  13. Sounds a lot like last week. 22 midfielders might mean Magner gets a game, too
  14. It'll be quite humorous to see all the players running into the square after centre bounces
  15. YES. This is a non negotiable. We must get him back
  16. The liabilities we persist with for developmental reasons over playing a seasoned hard midfielder. He'll probably get picked up by another club next year and average 25 possessions a game
  17. Why the hell put in Pedersen over Davis at this stage, and play Rodan now over Magner or even Taggert or Barry? What the hell does Rodan and Pedersen bring to the team especially this late in the season? Maybe our next coach will have a clue about team selection
  18. Interesting, on impact/positive impression in games he's played- Viney. I can definitely say i've seen much better efforts/inspiration from Viney than Jones or Terlich. Terlich's been a solid contributor and has had a few good games, but hasn't really shown enough yet to genuinely impress me. Jones seems to be a limited player but consistently gets 20 possessions without really standing out. Terlich and Jones have both been really consistent and have deserved their spots all year- Jones hasn't even missed a game. But i'd still lean towards Viney
  19. Basically 15 minutes of decent footy today where we looked dangerous. We started to use a bit more link up handballing and kicking through the middle but most of the second half was just the same old story. Viney's impact was brilliant and a real highlight. Kent looks promising, Trengove was a lot better. But conservation mode in the final term. Didn't even bother kicking it forward. Howe and Fitzpatrick had given up leading and running back. I felt dreadfully sorry for Watts being moved back so early again- why not just start him as a loose back if he's going to end up there anyway? There needs to be more going on in the coaches box. Just give us a forward line and something to be happy about late in the game. And our start was dreadful too. There was a ridiculous run of soft Freo free kicks at the beginning of the game, but that didn't excuse not having an inside 50 for over half a quarter. We're just switched off at the starts and ends of games. It's been the same story all year
  20. 6- Viney (Hard at it, in so many contests, running, moving well, great snap goal, only made one kicking error, his best game to date to give him a rising star nomination) 5- Trengove (Best game of the year by a mile, ran a lot harder and didn't stop running after one possession) 4- Dunn (Finally seemed to have his head screwed on properly and was decent with ball use) 3- Terlich (Did an honest job like Dunn all game and found a lot of the ball) 2- McDonald (Very good in contests) 1- Kent (Fell away after half time and his kicking wasn't great, but was really lively and desperate) (A very surprising top 6) Apologies to McKenzie, Sylvia and also Watts, not because he was good but because of how he was used. I'm also shocked that N.Jones was clearly not in our best 6 today. Must be the first time in 2 years this has happened
  21. Exactly, all of Neeld's radical "political" movements had to be backed up by better football and a decent game plan to be valid. But no, upon finding out how bad we were he backtracked and went with "rebuilding" and "patience". An odd prose to use when you've replaced several young high draft pick players for mature age recruits who give little. Just doesn't cut it after a decent 4-year chunk of building by Bailey, which unfortunately spawned a debilitating loss that exposed all the faults in how the club was run. (Mind you, if we could see where the next 2 years would've taken us I'd have left Bailey alone). This season has been so much worse than that 186 point loss and I'm really upset with the path the club's gone down. On field and off. Still means that they're the Dees and I'll follow them every week, but I feel less attachment and faith in the club, seeing us play has become so much less enjoyable that it's hard to even identify with the players. Many whom I don't want to be there, many who may not want to be there themselves. Our two wins this year weren't great either, and haven't fixed or inspired much good footy
  22. He seems like a great guy, but I didn't like his attitude of "it's too late in the season to change the structures" after Neeld was sacked. Probably brought upon by personal attachment to the man, not based on observing the horrid football we'd been playing. This admission of defeat is something we can't continue to have at our club.
  23. And Scully's still quick, but Trengove's skill is average at best and if he shows class when moving it's working class movement. Some of his running efforts have been borderline embarrassing. There's either something physically wrong with him or he doesn't have his complete heart in to playing for and captaining Melbourne. I mean, if you were going to argue for the personnel issue making Trengove a worse player, I'd say Scully's void has hit him like a ton of bricks. There's really little to suggest Trengove is a gun player, he's one of our best tacklers and gets to stoppages, but he's largely invisible during games and he hasn't done enough to help this sinking club.
