missing the point. its not neccessarily about hitting the target. Both of those players hesitate quite a bit...a reason for this is because they see an option, realise they don't have the skills to kick it to the target so they settle for the easy option out of defence.
-
Wow. i've never seen a worse argument. Hodge is made to look better by the likes of franklin and roughead and Dal santo by riewoldt? Hodge and Dal have been elite kicks as soon as they were drafted pretty much. And regarding to the awareness argument. Just ask Daniel Bell if his awareness has got any better? Where are all the Daniel Bell lovers now? nowhere to be seen. another 'i told you so' from the freak. cant wait to be proven wrong.

no we won't revisit it then. All of those players were known to have good kicking skills when initially drafted. We picked up Jones, Frawley, Bate etc. Has their kicking really improved? The answer: Hardly, if at all. There is a reason we picked up a whole draft pool of good kicks, because we only have a few on our list that can actually kick the ball properly. If only Neil Daniher recognised this as early as i did

a long term injury won't change ur kicking action. If Grimes' kicking was a highlight for you than you are easily pleased. Players I consider could kicks Hodge, Dew, Josh Hunt, Gilbee, Didak, Goddard, Drummond, Pavlich, S.Burgoyne, Malceski, J.Nash, Clinton Young, Richard Douglas, Dal Santo. Sure Grimes can find the footy, but at the end of the day, everyone on this site would have hit the targets that Grimes did on Saturday. What has been impressive with Girmes is his ball finding ability and his overhead marking. But i'm alot more excited about Strauss, someone that can kick.
-
my definition of an elite kick is 'someone that can successfully and regularly hit the desired target despite being under pressure, kicking through traffic or kicking over long distances'. Not one of Grimes' kicks were over 40metres and none of them were in any sort of pressure. The likes of Hodge who kick it 60 metres, off one step through traffic, into the corridor is alot more skilful than kicking it 25metres to an open target. And yes, Grimes did stuff up a kick in the 3rd quarter when he grubbed it along the ground.

to compare grimes to mclean is just silly. mcleans kicking is elite, grimes' is not and never will be. todays game you need a good kick..and lenny hayes' is a great kick too. the best kicks in the league like hodge, dew, pendlebury, pavlich, gilbee, malceski, drummond etc all have good looking actions(most good kicks in the league are left footed too but thats another story). once a bad action, always a bad action. its why matthew richardson has never got better at kicking. Sadly Jones, Frawley, Grimes, Bate, Bartram and Morton are not going to have any rapid improvements in their disposals, as history suggests from players with bad kicking actions.

What's with the capital letters mid sentence? Capital letters are only used at the start of a sentence of if it's a name of a person or location. Not At The Start Of Every Damn Word. Sorry, but i hate that.

nah bruce played and played well..but bruce is bruce. he is always good for us
-
oh its not that grimes' kicking was bad but i dont expect anyone to miss targets when they are giving 20 metre kicks. Someone like hodge on the other hand, 60 metres pin-pointers. thats all. great game by grimes. I find it hard to imagine that Morton got more than what i recorded, but thats good i guess!..and sylvia with 25 touches was a bit of a surprise

I took the disposal count of 6 players. They are right on the money, I didn't know exactly how many marks each player got..but i guessed the marks tally. Hope people appreciate this. Frawley: 15 disposals, about 4 marks. Strauss: 10 disposals, 1 mark Petterd: 11 disposals, 2 marks Jetta: 7 disposals, 2 marks Morton: 22 disposals, 5 marks. Grimes: 27 disposals (19 at half time), 10 marks. PLayer SUmmary: 2. Jones: Didn't do much, would have had about 10 touches i'd say 5. Mclean: same as jones 7. Miller: Contested well and provided a target 8. Frawley: The fact that he got 15 touches is good enough for me. Playing good defence and then peeling off to get his own footy 10. Morton: Kicked a nice goal and found plenty of it. Also earnt us a 50m penalty when Barry Hall pushed him in the face. 11. johnson: A pretty fine effort. the fact that he doesnt get bumped off the ball easily is a good contrast to the likes of morton, strauss, bennell etc. 12. Sylvia: Shocking first half, probably only 2 or 3 touches with full game time to that point. In the 2nd half, he presented well on the wing/half forward to finish with probably 18 touches, 7 marks and a goal(i think?) 14. Dunn: was played in the forward line and tagging Mcveigh for a bit. Didn't do much from my angle. Hardly noticed. 15. Petterd: Laid a big strong hip and shoulder on barry hall in the first half which i took note of. He had Daniel Bell phobia in the 3rd quarter when he was in scoring range but refused to take a shot. frustated the hell out of me. Still a pretty good game though. 16. Grimes: Kept getting the ball in the back pocket on the release kick from either garland or frawley. Also took some nice overhead marks though in the backline. Kicking was better. 18.Green: Didn't score a goal i dont think which was interesting considering he spent a lot if time up forward. 20. Garland: Played one of the best games i've seen from him. Did everything his known for. Also when the sherrin fell into my arms in the dying stages of the last quarter he said 'yeh right here mate'. Nice and random note. 21. Bell: is always going to be a fringe player so i cant be bother commenting. Cheney has taken his sport now anyway. 22. Moloney: Didn't do all that much. About 10 or so touches from him. 23. McDonald: I thought he played well. Kicked a nice goal, earned himself free kick after free kick and did all the tough things we know he does. 34: Martin: Laid the best tackle of the game in the 2nd quarter. I can't remember who it was on. I think it was on big Jesse white but it was a ripper. 41: Bail: Had limited game time but he had a shot from 40metres out directly in front and completely stuffed it. No real great aspects of his game and never will be anything better than a good average player. No weapons. 42: Spencer: Easily our best ruckman. Kicked it into the mark twice though. Doing it once is just idiotic but twice? Nevertheless, he loves the argy bargy and rucks well 47.Strauss: Didn't get much of it..i think he could have doubled his disposal tally but his team mates ignored him on many occassions. His 3 or 4 kicks were all fine. Cheney: i've forgotten his number but he played well. LIke grimes his disposal isn't great but he attacks the footy hard and i think he is a lock for round 1. can find the footy. Jetta: I don't think he is going to be all that much chop. He did some very nice things definitely..but just isn't quick enough for my liking. For someone his height, he needs to be alot quicker unless u have wonaeamirri's ability to find space on the footy field. Jetta doesn't have this. Kicked a goal from 25 metres out in the last quarter but it was 1mm off from hitting the post. Bennell: Didn't do much. Got half of his diposals from being rag-dolled and given the free kick. Other than that, he had 1 great kick that he kicked under pressure with the outside of his foot. Other than that, a quiet game. I'm sure there are others like bruce..but nothing else to report i dont think

you should never pick up injury prone players in the first round of the draft..my theory thus far proving correct
-
will they have stats for this game? in the past, i think they usually just have a match report with the mention of the top disposal getters thats about it. Anyway, im going on saturday so i'll record the possessions of strauss, frawley and morton. Maybe other demonlanders can say who they will count stats for...unless of course there actually is stats for this game
-
watts looks a lot bigger than i thought.
-
ummm, it says he is still in the mix for selection for Gods sake. hardly anything to worry about.
-
but spencer cant play because he is a rookie right? so we will need a long-term injury or something like that for him to even have a chance of playing?
-
yeh i learnt plenty. Grimes can't kick, either can cheney. I'm off Newton now and Miller lost us the game when he made the decision to try and keep the ball in (instead of following the ball over the boundary line) when he was surrounded by 3 hawks players. He kept it in, they got it and they kicked a goal. Game over. stupid decision by him. Spencer was great though. But for Gods sake, can we just get Strauss in already to teach the boys how to kick. Morton's decisions have probably got worse too
-
sorry mate but mclean is elite
-
i'm not talking about where in our 22 he belongs, you are. it should be pretty obvious.
-
meh, jimmy bartel isnt any of those things for geelong either (ablett is).
-
Cactus and I know Strauss personally and he isn't really the sort of person that supporters will hate in my opinion.
-
strauss and watts
-
meh. richo cares little about the ball when its not in his hands. same with fevola. its an overrated quality.
-
Blease & Strauss are CRITICAL to the Club's improvement
Freak replied to Cranky Franky's topic in Melbourne Demons
at the end of the day the 2 best teams in the comp have the 2 worst ruckmen in the comp. what does that say about the importance of ruckmen? Hawthorn have Renouf, Taylor etc and Geelong have Blake (Ottens plays mostly up forward) -
Daniel Hughes from the rookie list
-
nah that was newton
