we have the number 1 pick so it doesnt matter if the word goes out that we want watts. later picks are a different story as we dont want to give away exactly who we are after because another club may deliberately pick a player up knowing that he will be gone by our pick. with a pick 1 though, this does not apply.
-
correct ht, dunno what he means by that either. p.s no to hislop, we have enough slow midfielders thanks
-
unfortunately yarran could go as high as pick 5
-
just to clarify i think you meant 'I, like you, ......' , instead of 'I like you'. be careful where you choose not to use the the comma
-
yeh im surprised as well but the list of draft picks outlined recently on the afl website states otherwise. I think its because some clubs will not be using their later draft picks because they already will have a full list

we all know watts will be chosen as number 1, and we all know the names being floated around for our pick 17 and pick 19. but who will we get with pick 35, 51, 64 and 76? I'm going to review this thread and see who was the closest to the money. And whoever that is I will give them life long respect :D Has to be in order. Here is mine: pick 35: Jarrad Redden - SA ruckmen. We all know we need one. He is agile and is another midfielder in the centre after the tap out such are his 2nd and 3rd efforts. pick 51: Tom Allwright - a midfielder that has good skills and is a good bartel-like overhead mark. He may be gone a little bit before us..but not earlier than the 3rd round. pick 64: Liam Jones- a 194cm key forward with plenty of zip and marking ability. missed plenty of football through injury. pick 76: N. F. I

zaharakis is definitely not considered to be a first round draft pick...And Ash smith would be about a 5% chance of being picked up in the first 16. phil davis is apparently a big chance of being picked up by hawthorn at 16. Jordan Lisle is another that I think Hawthorn might look at. But Jackson Trengove will be a first rounder, and steele sidebottom will be one as well. Mitch Robinnson also an outside chance. So in summary: OUT- smith, zaharakis IN: Trengrove, Sidebottom

he may get run down..but he runs down more opposition players by comparison.
-
i honestly stopped reading after you said Naitanui didn't exactly tear it up. He ran a 2.86 for the 20metres which is faster than 99% of the midfielders

okay i take your point..but skills dont develop. look over a players career, their foot skills dont get any better. bate, jones and bartram's disposals havent deviated one bit since their arrival and you only need to look at someone like godfrey in his career to see how foot skills dont improve. even look at richo. or nick riewoldt. if you want to change to a high possession game plan, you need to recruit the players to do that. no other way.
-
you're missing the point. our players dont have the skills of geelong or hawthorn...we try and pinpoint these 30m no point passes which 50% will result in a turnover. yes it may be old fashioned but we dont have the new-age football skills to adopt the new-age possession football

pace is okay? naitanui's pace is awesome. fastest ruckman ever recorded. you cant say naitanui would be bad if he didnt have his physicality, his leap or his great speed..because he does have all of those attributes. you dont hear me saying watts would be bad if he wasnt quick, couldnt mark and couldnt kick straight. what a silly argument u just made. are u on the 'ignore list'?

yeh, brent moloney is a good player..just injury plagued...and ward was a good player for us over the years. its players like morton that gives me the shits. when in doubt KICK IT LONG!..why players like morton cant grasp this i dont understand..when in doubt they kick it short to a contest. so stupid.
-
a natural footballer usually understands the physical nature of the game. At this stage, Watts has not shown his ability to lay big hip and shoulders, run back with the flight of the ball or lay big tackles. He also often gets found out by trying to do too much when he gets the ball..something that you can get away with in basketball. So whilst the rest of his game seems natural, he seems to still be getting used to the physical aspect. Naitanui is so much more aggressive at the man and ball than Watts is...thats something that can't be denied.

watching melbourne the last few seasons, all i've wanted us to do at times is kick it long to a contest. much prefer that then morton trying to pinpoint a 25metre pass and coughing it up. kicking it long = high hurt factor, low risk. trying to pinpoint short passes = low hurt factor, high risk. ash smith looks great

Goose, you've got no idea mate. You're not giving Naitanui the credit he deserves. He beat Kruezer at last years championships and his impact would be immediate. Watts is by no means a natural footballer either, he is a basketball player first, football player second. Sure naitanui has his flaws but if you want to focus on his positives, he has good ruckman height(201cm), awesome spring, awesome speed, great tapwork, awesome tackling. football wise, he is very good already. Provided he isnt going to go back to WA, i would like him.
-
no i dont think Watts is best available. rich is. but after trade period and where so many players were rumoured to be going to this club and that club etc., I have decided that I would much prefer to not take a risk on a player like Nick Nat or Rich and instead go for the home grown talent. basically if asked, 'which would you go for if all 3 were victorian'..i would go for Rich.

good post

of course he wont be the next buddy. buddy will most likely(barring injury) end up as one of the games all time greats. but there is no reason why watts couldnt be a 60 goal plus forward.
-
mcnamee was sacked immediately when he suggested that we needed to get a high profile player to the club...and now u amateurs are talking about cousins. i'm too tired, can you just call yourself idiots?

my god

Nup. i don't want Hill with any of our picks. He doesnt have the great foot skills that people believe he has...and more importantly what we need.

and people say i don't back up my opinions with stats
