  2. all of you idiots who just wanted to beat collingwood, just wanted to beat richmond, just wanted to beat west coast are all biting their tongues. we have officially screwed up our development for the next 10 years with gold coast coming in, then west sydney. we have missed out on a potential star player. We are too stupid to even tank a useless game. Beating the bulldogs cost us in getting naitanui and now beating port has stopped us from getting scully as well as another player. ffs!
  3. goodbye tom scully and goodbye priority pick
  4. why do people think we will get pick 2? West coast wont win another game and fremantle might finish below us.
  5. nice thread. it gets me more excited about picks 1 + 2 (if we get it!).lol The best would be Riewoldt, Brad Ottens. Riewoldt up forward, Ottens to ruck us. i like taking the best available and I've always thought Ottens is a great player.
  6. People are under-estimating Butcher here. He hasn't had a pre-season due to several injuries. He is one of the highest credentialed juniors of the draft. He is the best contested mark of the draft and is still rated a top 2 pick. Don't read too much into the championships for Butcher.
  7. Bail- 12 disposals. (8 kicks, 4 hb) bartram- 19 disposals, 8 marks. (10k, 9hb) Bell- 27 dspls. Would have had 6+ tackles and he stood out in this regard. He was our best in my opinion. Cheney- 16 dspls, 8 marks. Didn't get that much of it. Just a so-so game from him. I don't think he will be promoted after this game. Dunn- 21 dspls, 8 marks. He has never had under 20 touches when playing for Casey. Deserves a recall. Hughes- 17 touches. Could have won the game. Didn't play great, but he was still good. Maric- 10 disposals. Kicked into the man on the mark from 15 metres out. inexcusable. The coach was not happy with his game as he also refused to pick up a man on several occassions. McKenzie- 15 dspls. He could play at afl level and he would probably fit in okay. Has no outstanding qualities but his clearance work is pretty good. Newton- 19 dspls. 14 kicks. He played a good game. 3 goals, 3 behinds. missed some easy shots...but also kicked a very important goal in the last quarter. Defensive pressure was the best of the forwards once again. Wheately- 16 dspls. Wasn't that dominant. I think he should have kicked longer on occassions. And definitely should have taken the kick-outs instead of Silvagni Strauss- 17 dspls. (10k, 7 hb, 8 marks). Kicked a great goal from 55m on the run and despite not getting all that much game time this was by far his best game for the year. Disposals are fantastic. He needs to raise his eyes though and kick longer instead of wasting his disposals with short kicks. We need him as a midfielder delivering to forward 50m targets, not the half-back line. Valenti- 23 touches. One of our best, like usual.
  8. they are obviously all good/great players..but no way would i take glass, mackie, rutten, lucas or fisher with pick 1 or 2. with these picks you should aim to pick up a superstar..and these players are not superstars.
  9. yada yada..all i want is for him to have good foot skills.
  10. exactly. he should've never been moved from the forward line.
  11. dunno why. he was a state runner
  12. naitanui on watts
  13. yeh you're probably right. well if we pick up a player that is 191cm-192cm i could never justify it unless that player was a quick as aaron davey, could jump as high as naitanui and as tough as campbell brown. Foot skills are a must. And who was it that said Morton was a first rounder. please don't remind me
  14. and how many of those would you have taken with pick 1 or 2? less than half once again your missing the point. look at bate and dunn. 2 first rounders at that awkward height. they are the exact reason why you don't pick them up. making a list of 191-192cm players that have made it to afl level is irrelevent. Its like me saying we shouldnt care if we picked up players under 170cm because liberatore was a good player. The game has changed people
  15. yeh lets!...bate and dunn are those players for us. congratulations you just highlighted the 2 players that spring to mind when it comes to trading. shot urself in the foot
  16. where to start with this ridiculous thread. mclean is having a very bad season no doubt but he is, i still believe, our future captain. He leads the way during pre-season and during games. You don't go trading away people that give their heart to the club..not to mention over $25,000 from their back pocket for club-raising charities. Sylvia is the exact player we need at our club. A goal kicking half forward that can play midfield for short stints. He has really come on and what incentive for young players would it be to get better if we traded sylvia away? 'Look guys, if you realise your potential and start improving we will trade you immediately'. He is in our top 3 in our best and fairest in my opinion. Very good player. jones is still a good player himself. People forget how young he is...and I would be cut if we traded him. He does try and do too much when he gets the ball but if he can just take the first option, he will be a great in and under player, if not already. When people think of melbourne they do think of nathan jones in the middle. Rivers has more value to us then he does on a trade table so trading him would be pointless. we wouldnt get all that much for him despite him being very important to our team. The only way we would get a marquee player is if we traded picks 1 and 2..and that wont happen
  17. Martin? what the hell...he is our best 2nd best defender in my opinion. agree on the rest though
  18. i think ur the one that could be on the drugs after that. saying no to buddy for pick 2 is deluded. he will be one of the all-time greats of the game. 113 goals last season and is playing with an injury this season yet still doing okay.
  19. wouldnt wanna be any shorter. i heard he was 191cm
  20. umm no. how many elite key position forwards are there? Brown, Riewoldt, Franklin, Pavlich, Roughead, Fevola..plus if you count Bradshaw, that makes 7..but we'll say 8 in case i've forgotten one. Now lets have a look at the elite mids: Dal Santo, Ablett, Selwood, Bartel ,Corey, Hayes, S.Black, Power, S.Mitchell, Hodge, S.Thompson, Cooney, D.Kerr, etc etc etc..i could name 40 more mids that are better than the 10th best key forward. MORE THAN HALF OF THE BEST KEY FORWARDS IN THE COMP WERE TAKEN IN THE TOP 4
  21. mids are easier to find. end of story.
  22. it will be butcher. Everyone is kidding themselves if they think we can rely on liam jurrah for the next 10 years. he was pick 1 in the pre-season draft for Gods sake. I'm not going to handle having bate, jetta and miller in our forward line trying to kick goals. Watts will push up the ground riewoldt style so someone needs to own the forward 50m. Or even imagine Butcher and Watts in the forward 50m alone. Both are 197 and 196cm respectively. Could be the new age of key forwards. A Midfield of Scully, Jones, Mclean, Blease, Moloney, Maric, Grimes, Strauss etc is easily good enough
  23. i'll give morton a pass mark at this stage. mids are easy to find, got to go butcher
  24. of course, he cant kick. but nevertheless i do want butcher. Yeh he cant kick but with the game becoming as soft as netball, forwards are getting free kicks right in front of goal..and this is where butcher should do well.
  25. unless we got franklin for pick 2. i dont want it traded. end of story. And don't say what about 'player X', 'player Y'...i dont want anyone but whoever the pick 2 is. it wont be traded.
