That means we're getting an extra $600k+ a year through sponsorship, than when we were with primus. It is all starting to come together nicely. A big hurray to Jimmy and his board. Vote of full confidence and support from me. Go you good thing!!!

I can think of 2 reasons why almighty Hankook would know. Maybe they are upping the ante, but more realistically, if i were a company sharing duel major sponsorship of a team, i would want to know who the other sponsor is. I eagerly await the next 24 hours. I will then be able to go to the demon shop and get the home guernsey as well as the white away strip. Ps. I too will be heading for a Hankook outlet when i get my new car in a couple of months!!!

Bring back Neita!!! Although bringing 'Jesus' Watts into the side might help (even though a fair way off). Hopefully our midfield was decent today.

Rex Hunt's footy panel was always a must watch on Sunday morning. 7 should bring it back. The GFC is starting to hit hard here in Australia, and channel 9 is definately not immune. The NRL footy show got rid of Chief (noooo) and Laurie and Trevor got the arse down here. Newman's pay packet is unbelievable (especially for the tripe he serves up), and Trev was reportedly on $600K a year for saying 2 or 3 things a show. I could do both their jobs for half the price , either way TFS (AFL) is farked. And i agree, the nrl version is much better (not as good as it used to be though)

Hopefully not for a while, if not at all. I have him in DT
-
We got pretty close to it last year, with our lot running around in netball skirts.
-
Enter one John Butcher. He epitomises the true FF player. Bate better start getting his arse into gear pretty quickly too. As he will be vying for the same position as Watts and Miller.

additions to the side perhaps late 2009/ or 2010
Demon Disciple replied to jabberwocky's topic in Melbourne Demons
My thoughts exactly M2W, another year from hell, but ultimately we would be better for it, with such recruits next year. All we would need is a decent ruckman, and the brains trust at the MFC along with everyone hope that it's Spencer. I can go another year of pain, if it means we are a better chance to win the premiership. -
, gave me a good laugh

2008 Draft, what does it all mean?
Demon Disciple replied to Little Goffy's topic in Melbourne Demons
It means, that with another decent year of drafting in '09, ie. Butcher and Scully (yes one more year of pain, with only 4 wins) we could be finally on our way to the elusive 13th. -
Stuff calling it Etihad Stadium, just call it 'The Etihad'

The Steven May Thread from 2008
Demon Disciple replied to Bruce Almighty's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only way that Steven May would be able to go to another club other than GC17 (if he's any good) is to wait until the 2011 draft when he's 19, as GC would pick him up as a 17yo next year/take him pick 1 in '10 draft. Even then West Sydney would probably get drafting concessions. looks like we'll have to go Watts this year, butcher and Scully next year. I hope these concessions don't override f/s selections, coz Jack Viney is meant to be a very decent footballer. -
We need to go after a couple of tall forwards, a decent ruckman and a few quick midfielders with class written all over them. Hopefully the MFC brains trust realises that Aaron's best footy is played in the forward line, bulking him up for the midfield was a mistake, all us supporters know this. Have Aussie in the FP, crumbing and roaming around the 50, then have Flash on a HFF, keeping him mostly in and around the 50, but also allowing him to venture up the ground as well. A forward line of Aussie, Flash and Maric would create one of the better small forward lines in the league. The x-factor would be limitless. It will also give us an extremely good defensive forward line too, all 3 love the chasing and creating forward pressure (something our forward line has lacked for quite some time). Add to that the likes of Miller and Bate leading up the ground, with Jack Watts being our big man in the 50, our once envied and powerful front half would return to where it once was. Then if Sylvia finally decides to light up, well, one can only dream of it coming true. He could be the cherry. Our backline, with another few years experience, will be better than it has been for a very long time. All young, all will understand each other and their roles. It will become a very strong and cohesive unit. One that will be underrated but will get the job done, and then some. Martin, Garland, Rivers, Frawley (hopefully he comes on) and Warnock, with Cheney, Johnson, Petterd and Bartram as the smalls. Sure it ain't gonna set the world on fire, but that's the role of the forward's and midfield. We've got the in and under, tough midfielders in Jones, Moloney, McLean, Valenti and Grimes. We have Bruce and Green getting on, so our outside midfielders with class is getting thin (although Bruce's class in virtually non-existent now). We have Morton, and hopefully we will get a good skillful mid in this draft (Blease/Smith) and will no doubt go after another all class mid in the '09 draft (Scully to name one). Our midfield is starting to look complete. All that is needed now is a decent ruckman. With PJ providing some relief, hopefully Spencer comes on, but i feel we need to unearth another Jim Stynes/Jeff White, one that will shoulder the majority of the ruckwork. Give it 2-3 years to all gel together nicely and hey presto, come 2011/20012, we should be giving it a serious shake. With the core of our players being in the 25-29 age bracket. Just my thoughts anyway.

What does Melbourne need to do next year???
Demon Disciple replied to Devoted Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not be out of the game before half-time..................................for at least 11 games. -
Yeah, i don't think Rivers would be enough, given his recent run with injuries. But if he was, tempting.........extremely tempting.
-
But i'm sure that if you had the chance to represent the red&blue next year, you would do so with more pride and determination than 80% of the current players. Like many of us on here would. And yes, the world can be very cruel at times.
-
Now this might be seen as stupidity on my part, but when Hawthorn were kicking back and forth in the dying stages of the game, to me it suggested that Hawthorn weren't going to let Geelong even touch the ball. Making it all the more painful for them (the fact they were going to lose the GF) and they could do nothing about it. Call it unsociable football, but Hawthorn were effectively saying 'The cup is ours, you are not worthy or deserving enough to touch the ball in the dying seconds of our premiership'. This is only in the situation of a team winning by enough that the win is guaranteed. And good on them i say. If that was Melbourne going on to win the cup , i wouldn't want our team to let the opposition get within kooee of the ball in the dying stages. But hey, that's just me!
-
Green not signing is a bit of a concern, given he would be the only one with Junior i'd have the youngsters look up to. Bruce to me just doesn't show enough game-day leadership. Quite few do since Neita's retirement. Miller is certainly one of them, but he is in the younger bracket. However, given our past 2 years, anyone is expendable at the right price. Sure if Green goes, we'd have lost a good player, but the team won't get much worse than where we are at right now. I'm all for trading our more senior players (Green, Bruce, etc) and maybe some younger players (ie. Bell) in order to get some more decent picks.
-
All Melbourne need to tell Robbie, is if he wants to be the no. 1 ruckman for his new club, he should pick Melbourne, as Kreuzer will be no.1 at Carltank for quite some time. Simple as that!
-
A 4th pick inside the top 10 will be next to impossible, given our list of players and it also being the 2nd last untainted draft Hopefully we will be able to get another pick for maybe a late 1st / early 2nd round pick. Given the supposed depth of this years draft. Obviously another 1st round pick would be awesome, but a 2nd round pick is more achievable IMO (given what we've got to offer). Unless a deal such as Bell for a 2rp as well as one of Bruce/Green for a 2rp, then on traded for a 1rp.
-
Agree with you there BB. His injury would have deterred clubs looking to trade for him quite a bit. As we won't be pressing finals next year (although stranger things have happened), we can afford to pick him and wait a year. But that's only if there isn't anyone else we could get in the PSD.
-
Nope, don't rate Corey Jones. Sure he's up and about when the team is winning, but is one of the first to drop off when the going gets tough. Actually, when i think about it, he'd be a perfect fit with the dees.
-
Too right Bub. Their team will have access to the best QLD talent and underage kids next year, plus picks 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13, plus they will be able to take the best uncontracted player from every team. That's 8 very early picks, 16 half decent players who already have AFL experience, on top of that, around another 20 young kids they sign up this year and next. And that's before they even start competing in the AFL. No doubt they will get more concessions as time goes on. Cry me a f****ing river. They are still 2 1/2 years from playing their first game in the AFL and are already starting to whinge. Turn it up. Take their license off 'em and give it to Tassie (along with an apology). They'd appreciate everything that was given to them, unlike this group of spoilt geriatrics.

I'm glad that i'm not the recruiting staff, the decision will be very tough indeed. Our PP and 2nd pick for mine would be Johnston (should he fall that far) and Blease. Our first is a doozy. Watts or Rich Either way, if we go for one, then next year we will be going for the other type of player. I'm inclined to go for Rich this year, and draft Butcher next year, who is said to be a very good KPF and just as good, if not better than Watts. But either way, i'd be very happy should we get Watts/Rich, Johnston and Blease in this draft.
-
It just so happens that you are right. Next years Jack Watts is a kid named Butcher. Only many over on BF reckon that Butcher will be better. A very difficult and very important decision this one. Do we go for the ready made and promising midfielder, the potentially game changing ruckman or the KPF who could turn out to be our next big forward. We need pace in our mid-field as well, so one will be drafted with the PP or 2nd pick. Blease looks a likely type.
