He seems to be able to kick a ball, so on that alone he has to be better than Natanui.

I don't think Grimes could really give a [censored] about the rising star award, it's a bunch of crock anyway IMO. Jack can have a premiership medal instead. Rich was a deserved winner, I don't know too much about Otten (so clearly he hasn't set the world on fire). As for Dayne Beams, i reckon people on here underestimate him. I rate him quite highly, he will be a much better player for the filth than Sidebottom. The only reason Pears got votes was because the EFC had a sook about him not being recognised (boo hoo). As for Jack Grimes, i'm quite alright for him to fly under the radar, as he will continue to tear the opposition a new one with or without a tag.

Whoa! a bit too optimistic for mine. I say we will get around the 31k - 32k members like we did this year. Which is still very good, given we had never had above 30,000 members before this year. It's a shame that all don't show up on a regular basis.

roughie for pick 18 or 34
Demon Disciple replied to Weekends at Bernie's's topic in Melbourne Demons
i strongly believe that we must take Trengove at #2, thus we must take a tall forward at #18. Of those tall guys that would be around come our pick: Panos - if we are lucky Griffiths - heard we are seriously looking at this bloke Carlisle - should be around at our pick. Of the 3, i would have Panos, Griffiths, Carlisle as my order of preference, although a 98kg 198cm forward with presence, good hands, decent speed and good kick is mighty tantalising. I'd be stoked either way if we were to draft Panos or Griffiths (neither would be around come our #35 pick), as they are more of a traditional, strong FF, which we require. Carlisle is a bit too much like Watts (not that it's a bad thing). I just think a combo of an athletic forward plus a power forward would be most beneficial. With such a combo, plus Jurrah, Aussie returning to play the crumbers role, Davey returning to the HFF (where he is most dangerous) and Sylvia on the other HFF playing as a midfielder also, our forward line is looking very lethal. Chuck in Scully and Trengove, our midfield is looking good (with Viney still to come) and our Backline looking ever solid and will only continue to grow in confidence as they gell together, with Captain Jack leading the way and the most underrated ruckman in the league, we are starting to develop an extremely exciting team. -
Of the talls we might have a chance to get at pick 18, at least one of Panos, Carlisle, Griffiths or maybe Black from WA should be left come our pick. (touch wood)

It's good that the Draft has been brought forward a couple of days, which means we don't have to wait as long!!!

The AFL will raise questions, but Dean could just say that he was at the right places at the right time. Total coincidence, for 2 months.

OMG, i never looked at it that way. If that were to be the outcome, i'd...........i don't know what i would do. I think you'll find that one Sam Blease happened to be our PP selection from last year, Strauss was our 2nd round pick. But again, the situation Nasher throws up mortifies me (it really does)

Yep, could have kicked 6-7 for the game if Bailey kept him on for the majority of the game. But every time we got within about 10-15 points off came Jurrah. The guy already has a large highlights reel, imagine the length of it in a couple of years (salivates). Jurrah is a champ, a freak, pure and simple. Go the Kuuggggggggggggaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

why waste such a valuable pick for a player that will be considering retirement when we start pushing for a premiership??? Plus a bloke of that size should really dominate in the ruck and up forward more than what Sandilands does. He is a hack. Jamar pretty much beats him every time Melbourne play Freo. Give me Trengove any day of the week over Fremantle's scraps.

A big reason why Scott Thompson left was because Daniher refused to play him. He wasn't getting anywhere near the amount of game time he should have. An old school mate of mine's cousin was his girlfriend at the time (no joke), and besides being a bit homesick, Scott was not too fond of the relationship he had with Daniher, and was a big reason in why he left.

I'd be very surprised if Trengove was not hard at the ball, given he was the SA Captain, and is playing for the seniors at Sturt. If he didn't go when it was his turn, or on a regular basis, he wouldn't have been a - given the captaincy and b - playing in the seniors. What i understood from the footage, is that he felt when he was younger, he didn't go as hard as he could, so he now makes that a priority (which he does very well). He is plenty tough and hard, this aspect of his game is one of his strengths.

Whilst i don't like Essendon the club, i despise their supporters just as much as the filth. I hate Essendon supporters, they are all a bunch of whingers.
-
Even though it's still a few years away, i wouldn't mind seeing young Jack Viney wearing his old mans number when he gets to the club.
-
Your point is well validated, however, Mitch Clark was drafted as a mid 1st round draft pick in the '07 draft. He is already a very good player and will only improve as he matures.
-
Yeah, his couple of years of more experience will hold him in good stead. It would also allow Scully, Trengove and Viney to tear it up.
-
Well then how are we going to get Roos now??? Maybe a director of coaching perhaps!
-
Geez, get on the Hawks at $17
-
Bingo!!! We would not get adequate compensation, if we were to move him on.
-
HAHA, you have got to be kidding me. Jamar is such a superior ruckman to PJ that it's not funny. Unfortunately for PJ, he has gone backwards so fast this year, not even Usain Bolt could match it.
-
well put it this way, he has shown more than any other ruckman on our list by a long long way.

Congratulations on Junior getting another year out of the MFC. The question is post is, why would Robbo not get a contract for 1 year, wheeras McDonald does get 1??? They contribute a similar amount to the team, which is not that much these days. Junior should have retired last year, as he doesn't influence any games. Good on him, but i think at some point next year, many of us will be questioning why he was allowed to stay on. Sure his last 2 games have been better, but one cannot earn a contract on 2 games, most other games for the season he has been ranging from slightly less than ok to poor.
-
given that this year is considered to be a 'weak' draft, Robbo has a better chance at being picked up by someone (moreso a team near the top) in the the upcoming drafts. Good luck to him. My all time favourite Robbo moment was in 2004. It was round 2 of the Wizard Cup and we were playing WCE at the Dome. A huge hospital ball comes into our forward line with Robbo 20 metres away from the pack. We all start screaming "Robbo" as he lopes in. He takes an absolute beauty of a hanger, and what made even more spectaular was the crash back to earth. A good speccie should never end with the player landing on their 2 feet. Robbo, you are a champ of the MFC, but unfortunately given where we are now at as a club, the choice you made is the correct one. Much respect for doing what is best for your club.

Right you are bub. And let's not forget that these guys are on a salary that's about 5 times the wage of the average Australian, all for playing a game. They get it pretty good. I would also have thought that the ones most passionate, ie. in the Melbourne player's case it would be the Melbourne members, would provide the most realistic and truthful opinions. They think that such critiquing is tough, life's tough. The sooner players get this through their heads, the sooner they will learn not to care about what is said. All sites like this do, in terms of a player viewing it, is provide a reality check of where they really are at.
