Let's not kid ourselves here. Brown is a champion player -- one of the best in the comp. He almost single handedly put them over the line against us. I'd be stoked to see him in our colours regardless of the stage of our development. Spare me the "he's a washed up old hack" lines; that's just tall poppy syndrome. He's not the messiah though -- nobody is. If McNamee's idea of "saving" the club was to import big name players then he got it wrong. He could've imported a 22 year old Wayne Carey and it wouldn't have solved our problems.

This forum needs one of those "bashing head against a brick wall" emoticons.

What he said. Criticism is one thing. Harping on like a broken record over and over again is another. It's uncalled for and it's annoying, not to mention being against the code of conduct.

No reason not to keep it simple. Out: Green In: Davey I wouldn't be fussed to see Petterd come in either. I can see the merits in both selecting him and leaving him at Sandy. (Hrmm, that sentence doesn't really read very well...)

Funny, I can't imagine doing anything I wasn't passionate about. I chose my career because I love it, and I work towards becoming better at it during work hours as well as outside them. Working in a field I didn't really care for all that much to me would feel empty and dull, no matter how good the pay was or how many chicks wanted to "meet" me...

Sorry you didn't get a response. If I'd seen this earlier I could've forced the validation for you.

Yeah, I was highly impressed with the 80 metre kick that went down the throat of an opposition player. I'd have preferred a 30 metre kick to one of our blokes, personally.

Jeff's already a two club player anyway I hope he retires and spares himself the embarressment of playing on one year too long. He has been a champion of the club and deserves to go out in dignity.

I struggle a little with the Valenti will be better than Jones thing. I don't think Valenti's body will allow him to bust packs or break and lay strong tackles likes Jones will learn to in time. On a side note, Denis Cometti said today that Valenti is "built like a fire hydrant." I also thought Stefan Martin looked the part today. Would love to know what those at the game thought.

Confidence. You only need to watch his kicks from his junior days and early in the season to know this guy can really play. He's not up to the pace yet. He will be. And when he does, he will be a gun. It's sheer madness to write him off yet.

You've pretty much nailed it there Clint. I can understand their strategy (expand the code outside its existing supporter base, which won't happen by moving in to Tassie or Darwin), but their tactic (plonk a team in west Sydney) makes no sense at all. It's almost a Southpark-esque three step plan. 1. Put a team in west Sydney 2. ?? 3. Profit!

I challenge anyone who thinks Daniher had no plan B to read the first few paragraphs of that article, then think a little further about their position.

That's unusually sensible from you Y_M. I agree with your side. I might keep Bode for another week though. Unlike most I'm not ready to chuck him in the scrap heap yet.

How did Jonathon Brown play in the reserves in his first year? Jaded's examples of Morton and Aussie don't fly. They're first year players. There's no basis for comparison, and without a basis of comparison you can't measure "improvement". In the latter half of last year Garland was just going at Sandy. In the games he played for MFC, he contributed nothing. He really struggled in the first round or two this year. He's now our first choice full back, with daylight second, and has some big scalps to his name. I completely agree with Rogue. Second year player or not, Garland has improved out of sight. Definitely the most improved player for me.

Agree with what's already been said. I don't see him as a captain of the future because there are others that would make better leaders. However, I'm more than happy for him to be part of the leadership group if his actions demand it. I don't think there's such a thing as too many leaders.

How many consecutive years you have been a member?
Nasher replied to LeBron James's topic in Melbourne Demons
Two. 2003 was my first year as a member, member for 2004, 2005, missed 2006 (for a multitude of reasons), member 2007, 2008. My card only says one though. I got my new one before I rejoined, which says two on it. When I rejoined they sent a new card with a new member number on it, not sure why. Oh well. -
Is there another Jared Rivers other than the one deanox mentioned in his post? I've only ever seen the one.

Have any current Melbourne players not yet played with Sandy?

Good question. Fan? -
I hope you're right, but I reckon the markers will look more favourably on the attacking midfielders like Palmer. It's no criticism of Colin, and I reckon he's as important to our side as any of those other guys are to theirs. Just the way I think it'll pan out.

A-ha. I forgot that the VFL season doesn't quite align with the AFL season. Sorry for arguing with the master. :D -

Undeeniable's right, Bartram played there earlier this year. Before the year started the only players who had not played for Sandy were Neitz and White (excluding new players). Neitz is gone and White played there last week, so that's it. Rhino, Robbo has played for Sandy. Believe he played a game there last year when coming back from injury. -
Thoroughly deserved. Hasn't got a hope in hell in winning it because he's the wrong type of player, but in my opinion has been an absolute revelation this year. Congratulations Colin.
-
I didn't mind this when it happened with Sylvia earlier in the year, but on reflection, I'm not a fan of this type of punishment. In my opinion it punishes the team more than the individual.

Bartram is another option for Aker. I reckon Dunn is more likely to tag Cooney as he is IMO their most damaging attacking midfielder. Bruce on Johnson. He's done it successfully before. He has the stamina and one on one strength to go with Johnson and the ability to damage going the other way.
