  1. I wouldn't switch allegiances. I'd love a Tassie team and would go every week if I had a side to cheer for (and didn't have to travel to Launceston, screw that). They'd always just be my second team though.
  2. Buckley? :D
  3. Who's ever called it that? I personally don't think any forums with moderation in place promotes freedom of speech at all. As far as I'm concerned, you don't have a right to slander or abuse people who you've never met, never spoken to and aren't here to defend themselves. Neither to Jack or Andy, who wrote the rules we as mods are here to enforce. You're not entitled to do or say whatever you please. I disagree about the premise that you must have played X number of AFL games to be allowed to be critical (which is completely different to abusive) of players. That's rubbish. We might as well close the forum now if that's going to be the rule.
  4. I think Sylvia's a player that would look very good in a good side. In my eyes he doesn't look as bad now as he seems to to everyone else, but maybe that's just rose coloured glasses. I like the way he's built and the way he attacks the ball. He can take a grab and he's a good kick. If he can iron out the brain fades that currently litter his matches then I think he'll be a genuinely good player. It's all ifs and buts at the moment, but I'm still hopeful.
  5. I'm pretty sure Weetra's out of contract this year. Carroll is definitely contracted for 09 unfortunately. In the gun and out of contract: Yze Neitz (obviously) White Holland Bode Weetra I'm not sure of the contract status of Newton, but surely he's on the brink of extinction now. For now I'll assume he'll be on the list next year. With Valenti and Aussie now surely certain to be promoted, that would leave 4 spots available for the draft. I'm not convinced that's enough, so I'd be looking to trade one player out for an enhanced draft position, but the problem is I don't think we've got anyone who would really fetch a price that would be worth it. We might dredge a second rounder for someone like CJ or Bell, but I doubt it. The likes of Bruce and Sylvia would get nibbles but IMO they're worth more in the side than on the draft table. I had Warnock's name on my "delist" list written in pen at the beginning of the year. I've since had to apply the white-out. Of the remaining rookies, I'd retain Spencer for a second year and turf Zomer. A lot seem to hate the list management time of the year, but personally I love it. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the list management meetings.
  6. I want Fox too. I wanted him the first time. The club's got a rare opportunity at a second bite at the cherry. I really hope they take it this time.
  7. I'm always completely open to a persuasive argument if you can offer one, and so far you haven't. I'm yet to see anything to indicate he's going to be anything more than a good honest player. I don't think he's ever going to be as quick or clean as someone like Sam Mitchell, who is probably the player closest to his "type", which makes me wonder what he offers that any other dime-a-dozen midfielder doesn't. He seems to be a handy player (and was very good today) but I just don't find him to be all that exciting a player. Why is that following the leader?
  8. Why?
  9. He is one player I have a tough time getting excited about.
  10. I completely agree. In my eyes he's a good player. He does some boneheaded things at times (the clash with CJ today was just embarrassing), but I think he's improved to be an important part of the side. I just think people can't see past the disappointment that he's not the superstar we wanted when we drafted him. He isn't, but he's a handy, strong bodied forward who does some nice things, and I do believe in a better team he would look better than he presently does.
  11. The thing is, I believe he does all the difficult stuff quite well. He is so clean below the knees for a man of his size that it's almost unbelievable, he uses it well and he's learned to take a grab over his head in recent times. It's after the ball has been tapped in the ruck contests that he work is extremely poor -- and it's what Jamar does well. It surely can't be that difficult to bounce a few little blokes away to clear a path for your mids when you are his size. He's a liability in the ruck. It's a real pity.
  12. There's one flaw in PJ's game that really prevents him from being an elite ruckman of the competition: He utterly stinks in the ruck.
  13. 24 (25 in October), in Tassie too.
  14. As strange as it probably sounds coming from a Tassie Dees supporter, I don't know. I don't think it would be the same.
  15. That irritates me too.
  16. Newton will play.
  17. I agree Rhino. Wheatley I feel will be the only out, just like Green last week. Junior to come back in (given), Maric if Junior doesn't get up.
  18. B: Matthew Whelan, Colin Garland, Matthew Warnock HB: Chris Johnson, Daniel Bell, Lynden Dunn C: Cale Morton, Cameron Bruce, Simon Buckley HF: Colin Sylvia, Matthew Bate, Aaron Davey F: Michael Newton, Brad Miller, James McDonald Foll: Mark Jamar, Clint Bartram, Nathan Jones Int (from): Nathan Carroll, Paul Johnson, Addam Maric, Stefan Martin, Shane Valenti, Jeff White, Austin Wonaeamirri In: Nathan Carroll, Addam Maric, James McDonald, Jeff White Out: Paul Wheatley (calf)
  19. I'm surprised at the number of people who have Petterd first. I rate Petterd, but I'd have others ahead at this point.
  20. He's under Roos and the Swans, arguably the best player culture in the comp. If that isn't the right environment for him, nothing is. He pretty much tops my "do not want" list.
  21. If the MCC owned us completely then it would be in their best interests to make sure that ALL our matches were profitable. Just putting it out there.
  22. It isn't fact. It was incorrectly reported by a journalist in the Australian (I think) as fact, then the entire footy world, including Jim Stynes, ran with it, even though it was not correct. Harris was not reappointed in November last year.
  23. What it does do is reduce the costs of hosting the game. By closing off sections, you reduce the number of staff required to man those areas of the ground, and reduce the catering costs etc. It doesn't increase the revenue raised, but it does lower the expense side of the equation, therefore reducing the "break even" line considerably. It might not make games against Freo et al profitable, but it might stem the money haemorrhage these games are a bit. It's a good idea and I don't know why it hadn't been done sooner.
