  2. I saw that and was confused by it too. I just assumed Mark had his wires crossed.
  3. My contribution to this thread hasn't changed since my post in 2005. Love the concept, but practically it has no place in 2010. It's yesterday's beast.
  4. Victim of our backline strength unfortunately. What are your Hawthorn mates offering as a trade?
  5. Okay, done. - 16/16 captains and numbers correct. - 13/16 number 5s (missed an obvious one, one player I'd never heard of and one I probably should've known) - I also got 12/16 number 4s (I attempted every number from 1-10 - these were my best results) Not too bad I thought
  6. Stupid and lazy question I know, but how do you check your answers?
  7. My strategy was to start with #1 and try and recall all the #1s for the last decade all the way up to 45. Problem was I went too fast and missed heaps (still had 8 minutes to go after the first pass). I didn't think of Schwarz until about 15 seconds to go and I missed Jeff Farmer completely - yet got all the nobodies like Steven Pitt. WTF?
  8. 77 and I missed some absolute howlers. Very disappointing result considering who I missed.
  9. The difference is that Junior was out for longer, meaning he wasn't running for a greater amount of time, meaning his fitness will have degraded a lot more than Trengove's. Fitness wise there's a huge difference between 1-2 weeks out and 5+. If Trengove had been out that long I'd agree with you. Trengove's fitness levels should be fine and as he's clearly in our best 22 players, he should come straight back in. I can't help but feel that if we had lost by 73 points rather than winning by 73 points, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I reckon people are just looking for any old justification not to make the hard calls.
  10. Why would Scully need a "break"? As a junior he was breaking records for endurance tests. He's already in the upper echelons of fitness at the club - this was proven against Essendon when he spent the whole last quarter on the ground even after the cue was put in the rack. He doesn't need a break. I'm with Inner Demon. People seem to prefer "fair" over "best". I don't get that either.
  11. My kids (2 and 3) are usually in bed by 7:00. If the game is finishing at 5:45, add travel time home, feeding them, bathing them and stuffing about putting them to bed, then bed time would be delayed significantly. Can't speak for others but delayed bed time in my house results in over tired and ridiculously cranky kids, and putting them to bed becomes exponentially more difficult. I don't live in Melbourne so it's not that big a problem for me, but I can understand why those with real littlees wouldn't like it. For me I reckon 4:45 finish would make things tight enough as it was; the additional hour would probably be the difference between going and not.
  12. Based on that list, with the exception of Watts and possibly Blease I wouldn't be terribly upset if any of those players went to GC anyway. The rest are completely replaceable. (This is also based on the assumption that neither McDonald nor Moloney would ever go to GC)
  13. Agree with Jaded. Anyone who thinks we tanked for three years in a row clearly didn't watch us much in that time. They've just totally rewritten history there; what really happened is that our team was utterly and genuinely poo. As far as I'm concerned those draft picks aren't reward for tanking, they're reward for the absolute pain we've had to endure over the last three years. They're also kidding themselves if they think their club would not have acted the same way as ours in the same circumstances.
  14. Precisely. Maric was okay yesterday - as I said to t_u yesterday I didn't think he deserved to be singled out - but the fact is t_u and yourself have a point: he was 22nd best yesterday and will make way. No, it's not fair and yes, he does probably deserve another run, but it's just tough luck. In footy, when you're a fringe player then you do a lot of warming the spots of others when they're out. Just ask Shannon Byrnes (hasn't worked out too badly for him in the end has it?) If all three of Trengove, Moloney and McDonald are available then there are going to be three very unlucky players who play in the VFL next week. Paul Johnson is my choice number two. I'm still stuffed for a third.
  15. Oh please, Phil Read? I thought the gist of this thread was to pay Joel a compliment, not kick him in the guts. Read was a thug, and not much of a player either.

    DAWN

Already been said in this thread, but I agree that yesterday was Plan A with good implementation.
  17. With the exception of McDonald (who played in the VFL based on fitness, not form), anyone who played in the VFL this week will play in the VFL again next week. It's hard enough fitting in the automatic selections without adding "extras" in at this stage. Tapscott, Warnock, Bate and anyone else will be the losers out of the senior side playing so well this week. Thems the breaks.
  18. We exist inside a little bubble, and if people outside the bubble don't recognise Jordie, it's of no consequence to me. I absolutely love him and I get the feeling everyone in the bubble - including those at the club - agree. I'm a huge fan.
  19. Out: Maric, Johnson? Someone else? In: McDonald, Moloney, Trengove? My normal goal is to align my expectations with a likely reality, but this week I have absolutely no idea. It seems absurd that we can play a game like that and have three potential unforced changes. I don't want to drop anyone. I call on my right to quit my armchair selector position for the week as it's too hard
  20. Maric played well enough not to be singled out like that IMO. Bloody fantastic performance from all. Adam Goodes stood between them and complete oblivion. I'm still pumped.
  21. 6. Sylvia 5. Frawley 4. Green 3. Wonaeamirri 2. Jamar 1. Bartram (those OOFs were the difference between 6 and 1 for me - phenomenal performance otherwise)
  22. Personally I'm not a fan of the "must be BOG at Casey before getting selected" approach. If that were the criteria we'd still be playing with our round one side, because nobody else would qualify for selection.
  23. Well done on reading the thread.
  24. I'm surprised that Bate was dropped, but I'm reasonably happy with that change.
  25. I remember at one stage that Junior was the only player on our list not to have played for Sandringham (at the time) - this was quite late in the alliance too. I'm reasonably sure he's played a couple in the VFL since then though.
