Oh Jake.
-
Who would've thought? I thought he was just picked because of his race it's in Darwin. As for the game - so far it looks like 15th vs 16th.
-
7:10pm Darwin time is 7:40pm Melbourne time.

I've posted this before, but this has practical limitations. Given the list sizes, you'd have a number of "supplementary" players on your list that are basically filler to keep your reserves side stocked. These would be amateur players that you'd essentially be asking to travel every couple of weeks to play footy, and you'd have to pay them to some degree (i.e. AFL clubs paying players who are not good enough to play AFL football). With so many interstate teams now I think the costs of running it would far exceed the benefit of it.
-
As thrilling as the discussions over the meaning of "race" and then "contemporaneous" were, they have now exited the thread. Let's try and at least keep to the topic just a little bit.
-
Retaining Dunn would just be proof that we're still holding on to crud players for way too long. He's in the prime of his career in our god awful side and he's still not best 18. Honestly, delisting he and Bate will be the easiest decisions Neeld and his team will ever make.
-
With the he wrote Magner and Spencer after the full stop, it looks like an editing error to me.
-
The fact that there's any argument over who is better out of Bate, Bennell, Dunn or Petterd is indicative of BH's point about forming an attachment to ordinary players. In the big picture none of these players have a role to play in our quest for glory and all should be gone at years end.
-
I like the term iiBorg better ;-)
-
There's no room for either of them. These two will be the first two to be scotched, this is an absolute no brainer. Petterd will come in a close third.
-
My gut feel at the moment is that Cook in the long term will prove to a(nother) poor early pick in the long run, but I'm not ready to abandon all hope yet because he's only young still and hasn't had much of a run to find good form. However if the club decides it has seen enough and shows him the door, I'd accept that as I have no choice but to trust their judgement, and it's obvious that in the past we've held on to crap players for way too long.
-
Urgh. Please, please tell me it was obvious that I was kidding!

No race card from this do gooder gen Y, I just don't understand the basis of this 'cynicism'. What reason are they picking him for if it's not to prove his worth to the coach? As I said - he's from WA so the "local" card is out, and he's not a household name nor is he a star of the game so I highly doubt the locals are going to flock to see him, so that's out too. What have I missed?
-
It sounded warranted - or at least debatable - from the Casey reports. Also given that time is not exactly on his side to prove himself given that he's out of contract this year, I'd expect the coach wants to see if he can play as early as he can. I'm happy with the selection on both those fronts. As it happens I also think the "aboriginal drawcard" card you're playing is pretty far fetched- firstly Jetta is from WA, and secondly I doubt too many kids really give a toss about seeing him play; he's a no name player in the AFL (ignoring that his surname itself is something of a brand these days, but that has nothing to do with Nev). If it was Liam Jurrah we were playing prematurely you might have a point. I wouldn't say cynical so much as completely illogical.

I reckon referring to members as "ologists" or "landers" is forumist. Can't we all just be "Melbourne supporters"?
-
It's a lot easier to press your case for retention on the list if you can actually get on the park, so I'm pleased for him in that regard. Good luck "Pickles"!

Hey WYL, they've got these new fandangled things called TV's these days. You no longer have to travel to Adelaide to watch matches there
-
I was just about to say that this game sticks out as the worst umpired game I can ever remember. I was at work watching it on TV; my colleague on the day thought I was mental. Gah, I'm getting angry again thinking about it. I reckon it was the only time I have ever whinged about the umpiring of a game on Demonland afterwards too.

I've heard people say this on occasion and I just don't see it. As a mod I can see every post that gets deleted (it stays in the thread, just gets hidden to non-admin, for us they appear canary yellow) and I reckon for 99% of the time only one or two posts every few days gets deleted and normally it's a clear and obvious violation of the rules. The only times posts get mass deleted are if a thread goes completely feral and even then I'd say we're pretty generous about what is acceptable, or if someone blatantly hijacks a thread and it goes completely off topic. Genuinely interested in examples of extreme and regular heavy-handedness because I really just don't see it. Personally I find myself erring on giving posts the benefit of the doubt more than anything.

This has got to be a troll thread. Doesn't it? I think it is. I'm closing it. Can't trade rookies anyway.

Lisa Simpson: “Look on the bright side, Dad. Did you know that the Chinese use the same word for ‘crisis’ as they do for ‘opportunity?’” Homer Simpson: “Yes. ‘Crisitunity!’” Definitely a crisitunity.

The interesting thing about Casey is that their side seems to change so much each week. Not just with MFC players either, they seem to cycle their own players through the development league quite a bit too, and yet they seem to just somehow win. I don't know how much difference it really makes, but it's nice that our developing players are able to experience a few wins in their journey.

I completely agree stuie. Losing Jamar not only wore Martin in to the ground but it stuffed our forward structure. We can't afford to go in to this game with a half-arsed ruck structure. As you said - Spencer should play the Jamar role and Martin to play the Clark role. It's not exactly ideal, but it's the best we can muster at the moment. Going in with only one ruck is a crazy idea.

Agree. It wasn't exactly vintage Green, but he played his guts out and was a scoring threat. It was a very pleasing effort and I'm looking forward to seeing him get to 250.

Would you like your dummy back? I just asked for some clarity because what you posted didn't make any sense without having heard the show.
