Cam Bruce # 32 announces retirement from AFL.
Nasher replied to gsmith12's topic in Melbourne Demons
It seems far fetched to me. Bruce was an adult in his 30s with intelligence and a strong commercial sense. If we were talking about a dopey 19 year old kid like Tom Scully it might carry some weight, but not in this case. -
Hardnut, doesn't it worry you that this^ guy is the only one in your corner here?

Cam Bruce # 32 announces retirement from AFL.

I don't blame him for his stance, and I don't blame the club for its stance either. Both parties looked after their own interests, they didn't align, Cam went. Best of luck Cam and thanks. It's a shame that you and the MFC parted ways in the manner you did, but I guess not all relationships break smoothly. I hope you look back at your time at the MFC positively; and I reckon you deserve much more respect than you get from some around here. It would've been good to see Greeny and co chair you off the field after one last game rather than decaying at Box Hill, but such is life. -
I'm assuming Green goes at the end of this year and Davey goes at the end of next. What happens with Rivers is immaterial as there are two outside senior list veteran spots, right?
-
Thanks rpfc. I didn't have it quite right but the premise holds. Jamar at worst costs us our last rookie player and at best nothing.
-
I haven't checked my facts here as it's difficult to do on my phone, but as I stand it Davey and Jamar are t he only players eligible for the veterans list for the duration of Jamar's three year deal, and Davey will be gone by the end of the first one. Therefore with Jamar being a veteran, it means that all he's really costing us is one spot on the rookie list and half his pay in the salary cap. It's only as other players start becoming eligible for the veterans list that it may become an issue, but until then there's no downside to him being around. I don't know how the abolishment of the rookie list affects this though.

Never kick it sideways/backwards by 20 metres
Nasher replied to jurrahcane's topic in Melbourne Demons
This happens because the play ahead is too congested, so you transfer the play to the other side of the ground where players have space. Calling for the players never to do this is all well and good, but there has to be a better option and usually if there's players free behind it means those ahead are outnumbered. Not much else you can do in that situation. -
This is seriously lacking in context. What the Deuce are you talking about? Denham didn't have a say in what, and was Smith having a joke or what?
-
I wonder why he changed his name? There was a bloke who played for North Melbourne and St Kilda - Kristian Anning who changed his last name to Bardsley which coincided with him changing clubs. Not something you see every day!

We'd be on our own by the 8th round anyway, so that is immaterial. 12 delistings is still far too many.
-
You are completely out of touch with reality if you think we'll delist 12 players. Your so-called source was just humouring you. Which gun mega star junior player do you reckon we'll take with our 12th round draft pick Biff? Bearing in mind it will have been completely pillaged by the 5th.
-
It really depends on where other players are at, but we could also keep him on the senior list and promote a rookie for him since he'd be on the LTI for most of the year. We'd need to not be desperate to find players to delist at the end of this year though.
-
You can only think of 12 players we should keep. You're right - let's make 33 changes to the list then. Alternatively, we keep every player who isn't one of the 6 or 7 we delist.
-
It's also not the share market. I never cease to be amazed at the number of posters who want to trade players purely because their trade value is high.

Here's an idea: keep our best players.

Damn, I watched the wrong game.

From that article: He backed GWS's young ruck stocks to take over from veteran Dean Bogan when he retired at the end of the season, although he didn't rule out trying to recruit an established replacement as well. Dean Bogan indeed.

Chris Judd's chicken winging of Leigh Adams
Nasher replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nick Walsh? That's the first thing I thought, too. As a North fan I'd have been very pleased to see Swallow put Judd on his arse. -
Evans showed us that he is quick and can get the ball, both very useful tricks at as a footballer. Whether he makes it or not is anyone's guess and of course he may not, but I don't think anyone's really getting "worked up"; we (or at least, I) am pleased to see him back because we're a lot more likely to find out if he's got anything to give if he actually gets a few games under his belt.

Cue the whinging about how rubbish the VFL alignment system is and how we must have our own VFL team etc.

Trade Talk, Supporter Fatigue and Neeld's Catch-22
Nasher replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
When will it stop? It'll stop when one of these first rounders finally turns in to a star, or isn't perpetually injured, or doesn't have some severe limitation, or isn't just plain old "sheet" at top level footy. In the eyes of many on this forum there's no reason to believe that this round of talent we're bringing in will be any less limited than the last or the last before that going all the way back to taking Travis in 98, but in my eyes there's equally no reason to believe it will pan out the same way. In fact I'd go one step further and say this next batch has to be top class - because believing anything else is believing that we're doomed to fail. The day that becomes my way of thinking is the day I give up watching altogether. -
Surprised that Petterd was included, but I'm hopeful he can show something and resurrect his career. He's on the rocks at present.
