There's plenty of scope for a denial on that one actually.

Steady on, they haven't won anything yet.

That's surely just the thing, isn't it? Injuries. I don't reckon there's anything else to understand. I think with a player like Jamar, who's naturally not very althletic, it would mean his ability to get to and impact contests is going to be diminished if his fitness falls. I think it's no coincidence that his best and most consistent year was the year he played every game, and the year after after doing a full pre-season. I'd say whether he ever returns to his AA form depends entirely on whether he can get fit again and build up the momentum like he did a couple of years back. All just guesswork of course, but it sounds plausible to me.

Wasn't it obvious? Jumper numbers 15 and 22 spring to mind immediately.

Wow! I heard about 6 months ago that Ling's business interests meant that the cushy job of 6 hours on a weekend sitting on the boundary at the footy was sufficient for his fix for involvement in footy. In light of that, I'm absolutely stunned that he's turned down a 60 hour a week job. I'd like to know what offer is going to be too good to refuse when the guy's already making quite a tidy living with a fraction of the stress of being a top level assistant coach.

I wouldn't mind winning a few at the G, for a start.

...yeah, that's pretty much what I said, isn't it? Though I'd probably say that if the statistic is telling the wrong story, you're using the wrong statistic, and it may be that there's not yet a statistic sophisticated enough to learn what you need to learn. That's probably a boring story for another thread though.

Yes - at quarter time Scott was bemoaning the fact that they had 10 inside 50s for no goals. What the stats don't tell you is how far inside the 50 the inside 50s are - a mark or contest at 49.9m is a lot less likely to produce a goal than the same event at 30m. One of the commentators mentioned at the time that the 50-55m area is no-mans land. It'd be interesting to watch in real detail how West Coast and Freo deliver the ball in to their forward 50 compared to the travelling sides, it wouldn't surprise me to see their inside 50s being delivered a lot deeper than their opponents. The question is - why can't other sides replicate what the home sites do, particularly at Pattersons? I don't know that North's issue was so much a lack of spread but more getting the ball in the wrong spots. Perhaps it's just an inability to rehearse properly due to only playing there twice a year (max).

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SHANNON BYRNES
Nasher replied to Pates's topic in Melbourne Demons
Though it's now been debunked, this is (as AoB said) exactly the type of player FA should bring. Has flag experience, fills an obvious need and would surely be on the hunt for opportunities to play regular footy. Couple that with the fact that he comes for free, it seems a good fit to me. -
Maybe G Lyon should have spoken to R Lyon after all!
Nasher replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
At the risk of opening a horrible can of worms probably best left closed, why was it up to Lyon to contact Lyon at all? Didn't we have a functioning board or administration at the time? It's always seemed ridiculous to me that Garry had any involvement at all with this process. -
It doesn't matter. Until Port Adelaide reveal the name through an official statement, we won't reveal it on here. It's called respect and courtesy.

I watch to remind myself what good footy looks like.

I think every year we should make the best player from the year before the captain. Beamer would have made an outstanding captain this year, just as Green did last year. Alternatively we could back in the two young players that the club clearly believes in and the players want to play for, and stop trying to fix the rare things at this club that aren't actually broken.

Aaron Davey reconsidering his position at Melbourne
Nasher replied to Brayshaw Self's topic in Melbourne Demons
Calling everyone sooks at the end of the biggest dummy spit of the thread. Ok! Anyway, you're being hyper-sensitive. There's no nice ways to say that a guy is obviously cooked, and he is. But nobody's said anything overly unkind or unreasonable in this thread. -
What about Freo vs Geelong? I told everyone loudly at work this week that Freo would roll them, but wimped out when it came to putting my money where my mouth was. Just when Geelong started to look like they're back in it, Freo power away again. Can't believe what a series we've been treated to so far.

Has Cam Bruce cost himself a premiership medal retiring mid-season?
Nasher replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Now wouldn't that be something? It would be Steven Armstrong all over again. -
Wow. If that was the proposed trade I'd be signing it as it came out the printer.

Cool trick: locking threads so the narcisstic OP can't just bump them for no reason whatsoever. -
Daniel Talia - Another recruiting blunder?
Nasher replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
You're in all sorts of unchartered territory for unbearable posters. In the 10 years or so I've been involved with this site I'm struggling to think of anyone more difficult to bear. And no, it's not because you're "right". -
Who, Hagdorn? He's living proof of the infinite monkey theorem. Occasionally he'll get one right just on the laws of probability.
-
Interesting, my mental picture of Pearce has always been of a front-runner who went missing a lot and didn't get enough of the ball, but his statistics don't reflect that at all. The years of actively avoiding watching Port play has obviously completely impaired my ability to judge their players.

Craig Cameron and Barry Prendergast ... What have you done!
Nasher replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
What was wrong with them and how should they have been done differently? -
Only 9 were eligible to begin with: Couch, Gysberts, Spencer, Davis, Sheahan, Cook, Williams, Tynan and Fitzpatrick. Who are the six playing?

Jack Grimes ''Time For Team To Rise Up''

What do you guys expect him to say, given that he's the captain and saying something is compulsory?
