  1. old55 is nothing but a troll.
  2. Definitely one of the Wrecker's finest moments. What a guy - I always reckoned his hits and tackles seemed to hurt and stick a lot more than they should for a guy his size. Had a body of steel - shame his soft tissues were more like tissue paper . I reckon most opposition supporters will have just about forgotten who he is but I never will.
  3. Is this a serious post?
  4. Yes, can't say I'd rush to sign him on that effort. Wellingham might not be our man but my view remains that if we want to poach players we'll have to overpay, at least initially.
  5. Good idea, and you could call it a "front loaded contract". Damn, why didn't I (and old55) think of that?
  6. Imagine the reaction on Demonland if Neeld said something like that.
  7. Offering him $100k more is equal to doing nothing at all. As B-H and old55 have both pointed out already, players aren't going to want to leave successful clubs to come here for only a "bit" more pay, it would need to be something really juicy. If you want to move players, you need to overpay. I think it's that simple.
  8. Yeah, he was 42 when I was born and yep I was the last. I had a sister who was already 21 when I was born and had a baby of her own, so I have a nephew who is older than me. Weird eh Never met my nephew though and only met my "sister" for the first time at the old boy's funeral.
  9. Your grandfather was 10? Shite, my Dad was in his 20s and I always had you pegged as being around the same age as me (I'm 28). You must be both young, and from a line of young parents.
  10. Well that's the question, what is the cost? The club surely budgets to spend 100% of the salary cap, so if you can spend it without detrimenting your ability to pay your other players, which it doesn't under my scenario as I've assumed we've got the cap room (and it doesn't impact other aspects of the club because it's budgeted money), then what's illogical or irresponsible about it? What damage do you believe this would cause?
  11. I reckon the difference in the two clubs offers will be much greater than that. We're at polar ends of the salary cap; my understanding is that even with Clark, with our front ended contracts and higher paid players like Moloney and Green making way, we're still in a position pay the right player a considerable amount of money. I don't think it's out of the question for us to offer Wellingham something like $750k to Collingwood's $350k. It might be worth than he's worth technically, but if you've the money to spare and are better off with the player than without then it's money well spent for mine. This is all just guesswork, of course, and obviously only applies if Cloke stays at Collingwood. If Cloke goes it'll greatly increase Collingwood's ability to get closer to our offer and it's a no brainer that he'll say.
  12. I've said it before, but there's got to be a market out there for a sports news site that delivers purely factual, thorough, well-reasearched articles. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd much rather read a handful of good articles a week than wade through dozens of shitty ones every day. By and large when reading or watching footy media these days I feel my intelligence is being insulted.
  13. "War" about to "erupt". Man I love the hyperbole of the footy media.
  14. I think it's pretty simple t_u, BH seems to be setting the bar higher for Watts than he is for Dunn. Given the relative talents of those individuals, I think that's reasonable.
  15. Worst ruckman in the league? Cute. He's not even the worst ruckman on our list.
  16. Unconditional is a word that is too absolute for me. I'm sure my devotion and support has a bottom somewhere, but it hasn't come in to view yet. I've had moments where I was sick of watching, and this year for the first time in my adult life found myself not caring whether or not I managed to catch our game, but I find it hard to imagine walking away altogether. In answer to the question would I still follow if I knew we'd never win a premiership, the answer is no. If we're unable to reach the absolute definition of success in this game then I don't see the point in playing or following.
  17. Sorry, but nobody is ever going to convince me that recruiting him with a high draft pick when he wouldn't undergo a medical and clearly didn't want to play here would have been a responsible recruiting decision.
  18. I really do wonder how "journalists" like this break these "stories" with a straight face. Big build up, serious expression like they're delivering the news about 9/11. Christ almighty. I'd look at myself in the mirror every day and go, "how did I become this?"
  19. I still like the idea of trading Martin for Wellingham.
  20. It would be ridiculous to count Clark as a first year player. Not really in the spirit of the award.
