  1. Nobody says that, it was just an assumption - I don't see how you can discuss this without making some kind of assumption. If GWS intend on taking Wines instead of Grundy then they probably wouldn't be interested in the deal I proposed as they'd end up with one fewer gun midfielders than they intended to take. That's a lot different a proposition to choosing between Toumpas and Wines which I had them as doing anyway.
  2. I reckon it's as maurie said, many trades are frozen until clubs know what's in their hand with regards to compensation picks, and the Dawes trade is surely one of them.
  3. Pick 4 + Sylvia? I know that probably is too much - or too little depending on your view - but I can't think of anything that isn't way over or way under. Is Toumpas good enough to pay Wines and Sylvia?
  4. If we go on the fair assumption (based on the Walsh quote) that we've already offered 20, there is no way on Earth we will downgrade the offer to a 27 to 30 compo pick. Comes back to my point about wasting everyone's time.
  5. "Hardball" is code for let's dick each other around for two weeks, waste everyone's time and finally arrive at the deal 5 minutes before the deadline and probably miss it because we cut it so fine that we missed the cutoff for the paperwork. It's the Essendon approach and it's why everyone avoids dealing with them. I'm strongly against this approach. Make a sensible offer first up and just get it done ASAP. If Collingwood want to piss about the edges with it and make silly demands like Ricky bloody Petterd then fine, whatever. Humour them in the interests of getting it done quickly so we can focus on our next move.
  6. Indeed. A "very reliable source" that is completely unverifiable is a long way from a confirmation.
  7. How are we able to offer/can they ask for our Moloney compensation pick? We don't even know what it is yet or if it will even be anything. That's a major drawback of this system.
  8. The other thing is that it's hard to see how we're going to pay other clubs for any more quality players as all our worthwhile picks (other than 4) seem to be tied up in all this other stuff, so we'll have nothing left to bargain with. If these other trades get up, i'd our involvement in the trade period to conclude.
  9. I'd be surprised if we had room on our list for any more players on our list outside the trades already mooted. With Dawes, Petersen, Ray, Byrnes, Viney, Pick 4 and apparent promotions of Nicholson and Evans we've already added 8 without trying. Surely we will be leaving some room for new draftees.
  10. Sewell wasn't getting a game at the time and looked bog ordinary. I had no strong opinion either way at the time as I didn't rate either player, but I'd be amazed if there were too many people who were strongly in favour of the trade. It looked like a Ben Nelson for David Gallagher trade at the time I thought.
  11. What? HUGE chance he will stuff up. You'd almost bet on it. Even if he didn't "stuff up", you know his professionalism is lacking and above and beyond this, he's just not a good enough player to worth all that risk. I can't believe I'm even giving this idea oxygen TBH.
  12. Richo played his career best footy post this injury. Not doubting the severity or the impact of this injury, just saying I wouldn't throw myself off a cliff over it just yet.

    Lucas Cook

No point in dwelling on this. We shanked the pick, and those responsible have long since fled. The only thing I get from reflecting on it is a bad mood.
  14. It is very unlikely that we engineered our entire trading strategy around one guy's foot. Neeld said at the end of the year that we needed support for Clark even when he was in the side and that has been the club's primary focus in the trade period. I don't think we need to in looking for hidden reasons when all the evidence supports the reason we were told by the coach himself.
  15. It's not the fact that he can get large numbers of possessions that I like(d), it's that he wins the ball and has very fast and clean hands in contests. This is a massive strength and one we need. Of course, his fitness levels are exceedingly poor and if the reports are true about him having less-than-maximum devotion to fixing this then I agree that it's probably best he try his hand elsewhere.
  16. Yes, GWS wanted pick 3 for themselves and wouldn't have got it if they'd forced us to use it on Viney. Surely there is no room left for "I thinks" on that one?
  17. Just out of curiosity, which club's supporter case do you place credence in? My experience is that 99% of footy supporters are clueless, and that it doesn't matter which team they follow.
  18. Aren't we talking about playing a key defensive role? Who cares if he can't play "catch the ball" for that? He just needs to be able to play "not get outbodied, then punch the ball away from the other guy". I think he can cope with that; he showed this year that he could.
  19. I couldn't agree less. Sellar can play the gorilla back role and Martin (apparently) has intrinsic trade value.
  20. He'd have to nominate for the draft of course Chook. Players have always been allowed to quit their club and chance the draft.
  21. Thinking logically, it would be fair to assume we'd have spoken to Barry if we were considering taking him. You'd also assume we didn't waste our time talking to Martin because we knew he'd be unavailable to us and you can't speak to every player at the camp.
  22. Woah! What the hell is going on with that guy's eyeball?
