  1. I thought it was worth a shot at the time when we took him, but it wasn't to be. Offered a couple of really exciting moments, but at the end of the day the man that arrived at our club had a body that had taken a lot of punishment and it took the ultimate toll in the end. Thanks for trying David. Sorry your career ended on such a sour note.
  2. Perhaps. I'd happily trade him for anything useful - I think he could be used to upgrade a third rounder in to a second, for example. I wouldn't trade him for scrap though (ala Martin and Morton trades), might as well just give him one more year and see if Roos can salvage anything from his career if there are no worthwhile offers. I'm not confident of a happy ending though, has all the hallmarks of another blown top 20 pick I think.
  3. Jeez you'd have to be thick or desperate to go to Essendon. While this drugs thing is still lingering you'd have to think it'd be the new Melbourne in terms of rank unattractiveness for a player.
  4. It was a nice pipe-dream while it lasted, though.
  5. While the God complex of this thread is a bit over the top, I do still randomly grin to myself when I remember that we landed Roos.
  6. Coming home in the same sense that Mitch Clark came home, I guess, given that both grew up in WA.
  7. He requested a trade because he wasn't getting a game. We upgraded pick 66 to 52 (which became 53 after a North compo pick) and picked Tom McDonald. Huge win for mine.
  8. I reckon it is a disgrace. He is a legend of their club, those peanuts ought to show some respect. A lot of short-memoryism going on with Swans fans at the moment.
  9. You can present a silly idea dressed as if it's meant to provoke thought with dot points and so forth, but it's still just a silly idea.
  10. If Paul Roos said to me "I want you in this side", I expect I'd have signed before he finished the sentence, but I accept that every footballer is not me. Of course just like Jack Watts, Colin Sylvia is entitled to use the system to see what's out there and I don't begrudge that. I jumped off the "excitement-disappointment-excitement-disappointment" rollercoaster with Col a while ago and after a few years of mourning the fact that he's not the star we'd hoped for, I have now come to terms with the fact that he's a solid B-grader who will pull out an A-grade on occasion. I hope he decides that the best thing to do is to wear #12 for Melbourne for another couple of years.
  11. Sounds as if the experience requirement of the role was downgraded after luring Roos. Lucky break for Mahoney as it means his relative inexperience counted against him less than it may have otherwise. To draw a footy analogy, he's a top 10 draft pick rather than an established star and he's being given a chance to shine. Good luck Josh.
  12. Suspect that he and Kent might have to work on getting their bodies up to AFL standard first, as 19 year olds.
  13. Conclusion: we shouldn't have taken Hogan? Yeah, nah.
  14. Rivers is a downgrade on Frawley and Garland. He would have been in direct competition with Tom McDonald for a spot. It was disappointing to see him walk, but on team balance I don't see him being any more than a marginal loss. Moloney I have mixed feelings about. I think if we had him as a centre square mid we'd have been a better side, but if we'd kept him Neeld would have stuffed about with him as he had previously. I've got to doubt that the coach failed the player in this instance. By the same token, the way Moloney threw in the towel was pathetic and showed what he's made of. He only had to wait another half a season before the incompetent one was sacked and things would have been rosy again; instead he spat it and walked out.
  15. Not probable though. Trengove needs rebooting. Still has all the tools to be an outstanding player. Make it happen Roosy.
  16. Definitely wasn't in his happy place early in the year in my mind. I thought he looked mentally fatigued and played accordingly. Seemed to rejuvenate himself later in the year and looked his old self again. I hope that with the drastic changing of course the club has undertaken that he decides he wants to hang around, because he's a crucial part of of our future IMO.
  17. Don't let Redleg see this thread! On Byrnes - for the most part, stunk it up in 2013, but wasn't exactly alone there. All players have a clean slate in 2014 as far as I'm concerned and Byrnes has demonstrated that he can play in the past so he could surprise, but in reality I expect he ought to start thinking about what he's going to do after footy.
  18. Don't forget that his primary goal is to play footy for another year or two. You would think that in our midfield there's a spot for him for as long as he's still up to it. Is the same true for Carlton? I'm feeling very optimistic that we will get him and will be disappointed if we don't.
  19. I want to unread that. I just picture that being my 5 year old son. I feel sick.
  20. You are acting like a dead set peanut. Again.
  21. Were you expecting Leigh Matthews or something? I was surprised too, but these development coach positions all seem to be filled by low profile/inexperienced coaches. What say we give the bloke a chance before we pan him, given that being the best player has never been a prerequisite for being a good coach.
  22. Every other player? Nathan Jones' first number: 2 Jack Watts first number: 4 Jimmy Toumpas first number: 5 Jack Viney's first number: 7 James Frawley's first number: 8 Jack Trengove's first number: 9 Shall I continue?
  23. I did consider adding that in my post too, but given that he's been told he's not required, what reason would they have not to delist him other than to be pricks? He must have been delisted, surely. Not that I think it'll have any effect on the decision to take him or not anyway.
