  1. The problems definitely happen when the site is busy - no doubt about that, but it's not the normal "server under heavy load" things you see like memory/CPU/hard drive being hammered; the server never seems to be under any great stress. I can reproduce the problem with a tool I've got that hits the site with 500 connections at once; the first 300 load the site in 1-2 seconds and the last 200 often have to wait 20+ seconds; it agrees with the symptoms of it being fine for others and dog slow for others. I suspect by closing your browser you will join the end of the queue to get a connection again and you'll see a big performance crash. It's a good lead, anyway.
  2. The second situation is the case, but there seems to be some doubt over whether he's been officially delisted or not.
  3. Are you finding that it has short periods of being really bad, then long periods of being okay? During a period where you're consistently finding it's okay, what happens if you close your browser and open it again - is it bad again? Weird line of questioning probably, but it does lead somewhere.
  4. It's lightning fast for me at the moment, but was bad before. Scratching my head at the moment to be honest.
  5. I used to think that way ("who could blame them for chasing success..."), but I've changed my mind. If you want success, drive it your bloody self. The best teams in the competition are all the best because they've done exactly that, and with Roos now on board a senior player like Sylvia is being given a golden opportunity.
  6. Disappointed, but not shattered. I still think we'd be better off with him than without. Oh well.
  7. How would you guys described the slowness you're seeing? Is it as if a] it takes ages to connect, ie sits on a blank or loading screen for ages and ages then suddenly loads? b] The pages load really gradually?
  8. Think of the internet as a big series of roads; your computer is point A, the computer that runs Demonland is point B, and providers like Telstra are the roads. Most customers use a super highway to get to Demonland, but occasionally there's road works on the highway and the there's hundreds of cars stuck in the traffic. Other users are okay because they use a different highway to get in. Anyway in this case I'm not sure that's the problem, because I find it's great then really bad then great then really bad. I can't see anything amiss on the server, the load is pretty normal peak load and I've seen it perform much better under twice the traffic. Have to keep looking around I suppose.
  9. Not fit enough yet, but there's plenty to work with. A guy of his size could be Aaron Sandilands or he could be Peter Street, the question with guys like this is nearly always can they get involved enough due to their inherent lack of mobility? I think he's shown enough of an ability to get involved in the play to think he's more the former than the latter. Sandilands proved the value of being huge in the second half of the granny.
  10. When he was hot he would run to positions where he could get on the end of the ball and often in space. That might not seem like a massive deal, but in our team there have been so many players that lack this quality that it makes him stand out. His disposal lacks polish, he goes missing a bit (in 13 career games deserves considerable benefit of the doubt), and obviously needs to stay on the park for considerably longer than he has to date, but I'm still confident he'll be a player.
  11. One of those "could be a good player if..." types. There were a number of times early on when he played forward that I thought he looked dangerous, but then he'd spill marks or miss shots and I'd be left disappointed.
  12. Agreed. Without wanting to be too harsh on players who go in to battle for us, this guy is the avatar of our ladder position.
  13. Is it that simple? I would think that using foot skills as your sole criterion is how you end up drafting James Strauss with a top 20 pick.
  14. Has nothing at all to prove, he's clearly a gun. Just needs to get fit. I'm forever the optimist. Richo had this injury and played his best footy after it. I'm not aware of any other documented cases in the AFL. People on this forum familiar with the injury (like Webber) reckon he'll be okay. Can't see any logic in those who reckon he's done; it's just instinctive pessimism without any basis in fact.
  15. I don't think you can ever disregard the predicted outcome when it comes to picking AFL players. The opportunity and the predicted outcome from those making the selections go hand in hand. Since they're in charge of the team's performance and are held to account for it, it's their call on who they give opportunities to; why would they pick him if they didn't believe he would add anything?
  16. Say what? From what I saw of Tynan, he was build like a brick outhouse. Don't think being skinny was his problem.
  17. HAHAHAHAHAAHA Oh, you weren't joking?
  18. Only took fewer than 5 marks three times, and two of those were the games he went off in the first quarter. The last game was the only one he didn't score a goal in. Not that it's news that the guy dominated, it's just driven home when you look at the year on paper.

  20. Wasn't he also training with us at the time? *shudder* Love the Rockliff rumour. Over the years I've done a complete 180 from being annoyed by rumours to loving them.
  21. Worth nothing I reckon BB. Doesn't have the possible upside of someone like Blease. Given how we went this year, nobody is going to be interested in our fringe unless they are exceptional in some way.
  22. Limitations notwithstanding, some damn continuity would help. He seems to suffer at least one serious contact injury a year. The most number of games he has played in a row is seven. His sequence goes 2, 5, 4, 7, 3, 1, 2, for 24 games over 4 seasons. At the rate he's going he's going to be completely wrecked by 25, if he makes it that far. He got a very hard time for his "education" early on, but he's taken more than his share of physical punishment for a borderline player I think.
  23. It was the footy equivalent of kicking the cat wasn't it? Pissed at team mate, but can't flatten him, so flatten the biggest guy in the opposition instead. Love it.
  24. What role though? He's an enormous downgrade on the existing KPD and KPF on our list, and he's too short (and too crap) to play the forward/ruck role he was recruited for. He might be able to play as an oversized back flanker in the Paul Wheatley mould - he's got a big kick on him, if he can work on making those land while coming out of defence then that would certainly increase his usefulness; that's where he might benefit from a better, more smartly structured midfield to give him targets. In that role he could also push forward and kicking goals from outside 50. His competitors in the side for 2014 are Dunn and Strauss IMO. Another challenging project for Roos.
  25. Was out of form early in the year, but seemed to have a light bulb moment about a third of the way in to the season and never looked back. He's been a good player ever since he established his place (after looking very ordinary early), but this year took it up another notch; the brain fades disappeared, an element of toughness, aggression and swagger appeared, and to top it all off he showed us that he can speak his thoughts without mincing his words. I love Jonesy, but I thought Garland deserved the Bluey this year.
