Just you think it's safe to come out, along comes a thread on Gary Rohan.

Agree. We are hopefully past threads on Brendan Goddard, Billy Hartung, Nathan Freeman, Dan Hanneberry and Michael Barlow. But I'm waiting for the reincarnation of the Crameri thread. ?

Open Mike with Mark Neeld on Fox Footy (4/9)
mauriesy replied to Hellaintabadplacetobe's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't suffer from the veil of negativity any more. Neeld and McLardy can ramble on all they like, even attempt to re-write history. I don't particularly care. -
I understand the idea of "development" and "potential", even for a KPB. Wait and see. He was only drafted in last year's rookie draft, and could easily have another 12 months before being upgraded. "Some guy on BigFooty" is hardly a reliable source.

Casey Demons v Geelong VFL Qualifying Final
mauriesy replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
You don't reckon the most important thing for the Casey Demons in the finals now is winning, rather than being a half-a-game training opportunity for someone to get back to form and fitness? Not that Viney needs it either. -
Eventually. I switched from my computer to a mobile phone, and it worked better. I'm not sure my satellite NBN wasn't stuffing up the system with the latency. M36, five rows from the fence, three bays around from the Geelong cheer squad. Looking forward to their quietness when we win. ?

I've been trying for 45 minutes. I just selected "best available" anywhere, for one ticket each under two memberships. It just constantly throws me to the message "There aren’t enough tickets to meet your request right now. Please try Best Available with a reduced quantity of tickets. If you receive this message even when selecting only one ticket, all remaining tickets are being transacted by other customers." Been timed out twice.

It helps to have some players who can speak lucidly, rationally and with knowledge of the game, to be a good front for the club. It's not the prime selection criteria for talent (Dustin Martin being the prime example), but it's not totally irrelevant. Imagine if the only thing every player on your team could do was grunt and answer in one syllable.
-
What's wrong with someone who speaks well and plays football well? Not like they're mutually exclusive.
-
Got through using the mobile version for a brief moment just before 1.00. Ticketek couldn't allocate two tickets in any section I chose, even up to $93.00. Now it tells me "member's tickets are no longer on sale". The website version just sits there going through 15 second cycles.

Simon Goodwin Contract Extension [Aug 2018]
mauriesy replied to Elwood 3184's topic in Melbourne Demons
What ... you don't trust the old one? -
The over-celebrating comment is just a way for media junkies like Judd, Hutchinson and Lloyd (who agreed) to look authoritative. We beat GWS and/or win the first final and they can say raising the issue made Melbourne re-focus. Lose to GWS and then drop out of finals in the first week and they can say they were vindicated. Either way they appear to "win".

They do a survey then extrapolate out to the Australian population.

What they're saying over at Roberts Road
mauriesy replied to Queanbeyan Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
When faced with a 50-50 decision, good umpires will either call a ball up or let the play go on. This is especially true of holding-the-ball decisions, where prior opportunity is a critical part of the decision. I don't think we "got away witha lot" at all. -
That's not what I said. You could stop speaking for me and making things up.

Yep, it was Jack Watts fault in 2007 even before he got drafted.
-
The past negativity. As a supporter I am approaching the finals series with a hugely positive outlook. Even if we don't get past the first week. Then I'll be positive for 2019. I'm not interested in what happened in 1965, 1975 or 1985, to Norm Smith, or Neeld, or Watts. I don't need to be reminded of our past every minute of the day, every day of the week. I know it and I choose now to ignore it.
-
No one's asking you to deny it. They're just asking you to get over it.
-
There you go ... again.

Harping on ancient history is not fully supporting them. It's placing a load on their shoulders that is not of their making, nor their responsibility. I don't care how much you sent Melbourne and I'm not lecturing you. I'm just sick of the continual negativity and backward outlook here, even when we win. (Supporting Melbourne since the 1950s.)
-
Coincides with the rise in expectations of supporters and their anger after any loss.
-
You can either become eternally depressed by the past or get over it. I can't see the point of continually harping on it. Fifty-5's point was that this is a new team, without that baggage, with a great chance of success in the future, and they don't care about what happened 30 years ago (like you obviously still do), only what happens on the road ahead. We should support them.
-
Yes, but the veil of negativity needs to be lifted, in fact consigned to the bin.
