Some pretty poor comments on this thread at the moment Boys need to win some clearances though - playing ok hope they can keep it up I must admit I am not a fan currently of the our defensive zone - seems to be easily beaten

Spot on mate - Add big Maxie Gawn, Terlich and my boy Jetta to the mix (i really hope the jet can find some consistency and love his attack on the ball) and hopefully Evan and a few others keep developing Sadly we are not praising too many senior players - I am really interested to see how Sylvia plays this weekend - i am starting the genuinely get excited about watching him play. And here's also hoping Garland and the back six find some confidence
-
It is a good debate - and i think there are some detailed factors to why it looks like Bailey's defence was better then Neelds - But I feel Bailey couldn't implement a press or break it - which is modern football today. Neeld at the moment is only doing slightly better but they are different circumstances.... Mate - there are some reasons to be positive - but if we get smashed by Brisbane this weekend I may jump ship
-
Yep, it is depressing, especially the Port situation. But you do need to consider the circumstances around why teams are under-preforming - and I think Port had the talent but they weren't coached well where we need to develop the talent as we're starting from a low base. I mean we did ok under Bailey for a year - but c'mon short memories ppl. We only ever beat teh tigers (who were poor) or Essendon or an interstate team travelling to the G. We got flogged a lot under Bailey and we were easily picked apart by good teams. Purely offsensive game plan with no Plan B.. I just think there is no easy answer to this current situation, sacking the coach will not magically make the team better - as [censored] poor as it sounds maybe we have to bight the bullet and take the hard road and stop looking for 'White knights; and easy options.... Thats just my opinion, i think this club as a whole looks for the easy option too often. We need to develop consistent preforming AFL players who preform week to week, year to year We've got some good bigs now Stuie - now we need a midfiled and I hear they can be established quickly - so here is hope Neeld and the MFC can turn this around!!! But I will restate - if Neeld can't keep the team competitive then we are all buggered
-
I see your point but maybe there is too much blame and not enough hard work - the new FD has only been in place 1 season (all be it 2 pre seasons) How long does the blame game go on? For example - a new coach comes in say round 10 - we put up with more crap until '14 - then he needs to develop the team in his mould so that could mean the whole season of 2014 is wasted and if he fails in 14/15 do we get a new coach again??? That strategy for me lacks integrity and professionalism for the sake of giving hope to supporters.... and that's why I won't back sacking Neeld until 14 (or his position is un sustainable)
-
Nothing wrong with that opinion mate...... Preformance is a real worry through the first 4 weeks of this season, no argument there. At this stage I am willing to look on the brigh side and hope that the playing group are still a work in progress. Afterall with 14 inclusions and up to 7 - 10 new faces in the senior team it is going to take some time to gel - and young blokes need time to develop to AFL standard coupled with our lack of senior talent who don't preform to AFL standard week to week But I agree if the poor preformance keep up and Neeld can't get the team competitive he will be in big trouble. I guess the counter argument to that is how long does a coach need to install a new culture and plan? But ultimetly if Neeld can't get the team to be competitive he will go The real problem at the MFC that no one has really touched on and again there is no easy answer is why hasn't the MFC from as far back as the 90's - why have we never had a consistent preforming team from week to week - year to year??? This is where I hope Neeld can step up the professionalism - but again I go back to your argument - if he can't get the team competitive he will lose his job
-
Just to continue this shortsighted arugment Under our current structure shouldn't the Board or the Football director be responisble for the Football Department preformance under 'Corporate Governance'?? Not 100% sure of the coaching/FD structure but i'd reckon Neeld isn't at the top of the tree... Just highlights what a poor argument it is Stuie - just run with I don't like Neeld and I will have more respect for you
-
He looked ok - didn't mind his work rate and skill looked ok Will keep watching him wiht interest
-
Haha stuie - c'mon mate Are you saying 2 opinions from two people in the AFL industry at the mmoment have no weight in this argument and your "Corporate Governance' (which does not apply to AFL football departments as they are not running a business) is more relavent. Take a chill pill brother... Otherwise you;ll end up sounding delusional and upset like Tona Neeld will be judged by the on-feild prefomance of the team I have no doubt about that- but a lot of argument against Neeld is misdirected IMO - eg you need the cattle to execute a game plan - read through preious pages I CBF repeating myself. To change a front running, zero defence culture is going to talk longer then 1 or 2 seasons
-
I don't know what the actual statistic is but a lot of blokes don't make it dee-luded Sad but true.... I've liked what i've seen from Taggart - (all be it very little) I have hopes he can produce at senior level but who really knows
-
I am not defending getting flogged in the first 3 weeks becuase that is un-acceptable What i've kept in both of your posts is the argument Player ability vs coaching..... Mark Neeld has changed his coaching style, you say Neeld has no idea - others say it's a sign of a clever coach. Let's see what happens in the next few weeks to see if improvement continues or the players and coaches are not up to it
-
Thanks Rusty I will try my best...... Haha silly me using facts to argue an argument
-
From the AFL web site - http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-04-25/neeld-better-than-ever Seems to be some unity from the playing group.despite the speculation. Look I agree with the Neeld doubters that Neeld has to keep the team competitive - losing every week by 100 pts is not acceptable..... But lets not make decisions on emotion, If by this time nex year no progress has been made I will be on the sack Neeld bandwagon - but until then lets give the boys some support
-
Haha yes the past is well and truley gone - wright or wrong Bailey and his game style is gone, no point rehashing Indeed lets hope we dont fall behind again - Personally I think the fundemantal to all game plans is winning the ball - that is one thing the MFC has lacked a lot recently
-
It's an old saying but a goodie Hardnut -'It's easy to run forward with the ball - it's a lot harder to run the other way.'. So I don't like your arguement at all Hardnut Under Bailey 2 things didn't happen - Tacking pressure and running the other way Although the Tigers are playing really good footy (Bailey esq) at the moment I'd rather play like the Pies then the Tigers - At the MCG saturday is a prime example. Another lame saying for you flair wins games - defence wins titles, and that can be applied to a lot of sports
-
It's an interesting discussion point BH Are you accepting mediocrity BH?? I am not having a go at you mate - but for a long this club has needed someone to come in and lead. Because some haven't brought in (which is hard to argue after the GWS game) should we pack in all the hard work and just accept this club will always be mediocre? You point out Neeld has been good at changing the culture - is it just a matter of time before the wheel turns? If we pack it in now and go with a new coach are we just confirming this club is weak minded and mediorcity is acceptable? Is scaraficing a few players (a lot of them you could pin them as being long term under acheivers) for long term success? I don't think success under Neeld is a given - but if you refer to my post 581 is it all Neelds fault? The MFC for a long time (supporters and club) have just assumed this club will get better naturally i reckon. The rest of the AFL isn't going to donate us wins I am hoping short term pain for long term gaain while the likes of Gawn, Viney, Toumpas, Jetta, Evans, Blease, Bail, Tom Mac, Hogan etc all develop
-
I agree Neeld has been too defensively minded in the past - but I am not going to lay all the blame on Neeld It's widely known the the MFC is 'Unfit' - hard to play consistent footy with an unfit unit. Also if you look at how footy is played now 'no stoppages' you realise the gains under the new fitness regime may not see fruit yet as the game has gotten faster - you can debate that argument all you like but it is accepted in the AFL industry and by our club I strongly believe that if Neeld can keep this team competitve for 2013 he can keep his job and he'll reap some rewards when 2 things happen 1/ Our young blokes who have played 0 -25 games get AFL conditioning and can run out a full game 2/ As a team as a whole we get fitter So to answer your question AF I think Neeld has gone more offensive as well (which is against his coaching style) to keep this team competitive in 2013. And I'd reckon people in the know (AFL media) would applaud this move if they realised it. Al Clarkson and Mick are two coaches who constantly change their game style to suit their teams and are regarded as the best coaches in the league Neelds not out of the woods (getting flogged is not acceptable) but if he can keep his job I reckon we'll see some hard work start to pay off... And I personally don't see this club playing his game style until at least 2014 - 15 when they can actually execute
-
The sack Mark Neeld thread is pretty lonely this week it seems.... Just enjoy a win boys and girls after Sunday arvo this weekend I am sure we will have plenty to complain about
-
I actually don't mind this point from T Shaw (although he is a [censored])- I say that because I thought Clark was good when we were under the pump playing as the loose man (he's a smart, agile footballer Clark) and I think he played the role well So in future if Clarke does venture back as the loose - Howe 1 out up forward could work Food for thought anyway
-
Haha anyone but Neeld this week
-
I guess Neeld is off the hook this week?? The witch hunt continues............
-
mate i am confident I know where we are at - bottom 4 My comments are to you and the negatives on this thread and site - can't have your cake and eat it too - it's all Neelds fault when we lose no kudos when we win?
-
What does everyone make of Moloney and Martin at Brisbane now?? Massive game next week
-
I don't know any other way to say that was a [censored] poor decision by the umpires Clark had been warned for being hostile and was throwing his weight around - on that kick he bumped his defender and the ump gave a free kick for not heeding the warning. I acutally though I heard the umpire say 'contact Goal defence' - its not AFL it was pathetic
-
Haha quality post
