For mine there is nothing wrong with comparing Bailey to Neeld The one issue that does annoy me a little about the Bailey v Neeld debate is I don't think people take in to account how much footy has changed from 2009 to now. The press in 2009 was only implemented by a few top teams, Now in 2013 every team has a press or zone or some variation.of full field pressure Not sure if people have short memories but in 2009 we struggled against those teams who pressed us then and we are struggling now.... Which again is my argument, do we stick fat with Neeld and give him a chance do the hard work to get better??? or.... Do we fire him take an easy option and hope the new coach get us short term gains?? IMO we need to stick fat and build a success club over time, players need to be educated how to play properly - We were shite in 2009 - 2011 under Bailey playing uncontested footy not a lot has changed. I can't say i agree with every move Neeld and co have done - but this club will remain a basket case unless this group of player can start winning contested footy And anyone who says they wouldn't take Malthouses or Craig's coaching records for this club at the moment are kidding themselves (in response to people bagging their game styles and coaching history etc)
-
A little harsh Hardnut - Neeld said he wanted to coach the hardest team..... I am equally upset as you with the second statement - Not sure if Neeld is stupid or they really have no answers..... but read my response in 434, i think there is a lot of hard work left to do with this group of players for Neeld & Co and even the new Coach Do we do the hard work or do we fold under the pressure>??

I agree with the majority of those points mate. Some decisions that have gotten players offside seem poor and some decisions have been down righ baffling. We lack any real leadership in this club - None of our senior core from 09 to now have any real leadership abilities (Jame Mac excluded) our team is coming from a very low base I can't say I agree with everything Neeld has done - I am not even 100% sure he can deliver what has been promised.... But what I will say in his defence (as this is my position at the moment) is, under Neeld we will know who wants to play and who dosen't have what it takes to make the grade. Neeld's been given the task of turning this front running culture in to a hard working combative unit. Some of the players that have left are good players, but they weren't leaders and they dropped their heads when asked to be accounable Not all players and supporters agree with this method - but I believe a professional club would give him at least to the end of the year to implement his plans. As Hardwick said on the Footy show last night - players and supporters have to stick to the plan, the dividends will come once the hard work has been done. I don't think this club has the stomach for the Hard Work - i think this club will be happy with 8-10 wins a season and continue to be irrelavent - That why I don't want to see Neeld sacked. Becuase even if he dosen't have the preception as a good coach - with Mission and Craig I reckon with some hard work and getting through the growing pains there is a chance they could build something special. I am being a little optomistic there - I expect Neeld to be sacked the next time we lose by 100 pts or to GWS or GC. I expect the club administrator will take the easy option and satisfy supporters demands to hire a new coach and when they do I expect Melbourne to remain irrelavent easy beats in the AFL I think we agree with each other mate - but our views of what will happen when Neeld is sacked are different. You see hope where as I see the same old MFC, always taking the easy option and will remain irrelavent for another 50 years (if we last that long)

Settle down young fella - it's standard business practice.

Is it safe to assume yet that the injections haven't worked?

No problem I will answer your points in point form as well 1 ok cool 2 I CBF repeating myself - i've been pretty cliear in my posts on this thread that there are multiple issue with this club and simply sacking a coach 1/2 way through a rebuild is unprofessional by the club and un-realistic expectations 3. Apologies if you're offended - but it really makes me wonder if you watch any other team if you claim we'd be better off under bailey 4. Why is 186 so different to what's happening now? And you're the one claiming sacking Bailey was a bad thing 5. Hard to get the most out of players if you haven't got total commitment out of the 22 blokes on the park On to your q's 6. No I don't - i think some of the players are unaccountable and lack any knowledge the commitment to get 100% out of themselves. I think for some it's gotten too hard and they've dropped their heads or simply have NFI. You mentioned earlier (i think) that you can't drop 18 players you need some experience to win games and I also think Neeld has made mistakes but they aren't fatal. 7. I think every player you've listed iin their own ways idenitfy problems with our club. They all either under-preformers at their time (AS an example -Moloney was good under Bailey but when asked to be accountable dropped his head) at the club and don't show or lack any real leadership 8. I am not sure how to answer that and that answer and it is why I am not so sure if Neeld should be sacked.... THankfully it is not my decision but I don't mind debating it Nothing wrong with looking at the ladder and saying we are failing - but we've been down this path before - sacking coaches willy nilly I am not 100% sure of Neelds performance as a Senior coach as I am not sure he has 100% commitment form every player on the list - which undermine his preformance..... Neelds been given 3 years to trun this ship around - IMO sacking him now is unprofessional from the club and it says to me Our club will never ever amount to anything ever as it can't see anything through - right or wrong My question to you How can you sit there from the outside and have zero doubt that Neeld, Craig and Co aren't on the right track - is preformance the only measure of success?? Can experience leadership and AFL fitness be acheived in 18 months?? Do winning culutres only take 18 months to develop?? Beacuse Neeld, Mission & Craig can't get immediate results does that mean their reocrds don't mean anything?
-
You speak with passion and I appreciate that But your opinions lack any acknowlegement of the other side of the argument - And i guess 186 was just a road bump?? I don't mean to be rude - but do you watch footy? These blokes can't win a 1 v 1 contest - they can't win the ball.. 2013 footy is all about contested football. What makes you think we will be better off playing free flowing footy unaccountable footy if we can't even with the ball?? A coach instructs the players how to play - the players acutally go out there and play - the players need to be accountable too
-
haha f#%k someone out there hates this club
-
Not upset mate - am passionate though I fully expect Neeld to get sacked if we lose to GWS this weekend - I won't agree with it but I expect it to happen... The preformance on field has been poor - no one disputes that at all. I am too young to remember Robbie Flower running around. Neeld, Craig and Co were brought in to this club to change it's culture and initiate a more unified and professional club because we are so far behind the competition it's not funny- Not the old school old boy club the MFC curently is. On field preformance is important but it dosen't only rest with the coach... what about the players responsibility? If Neeld is sacked 18 months in to his re-build it will be an embaressment for the club and the final straw for this board.... How can you trust their judgement after sacking a bloke 18 months in to a project that realistically will take years??
-
Exhibit A - emotional posting No offence meant to you Tona - I know your a passionate Dees man but I don't have to agree with your opinion You seem upset and just want eveyone fired
-
To start off - Get over yourself mate - How often do you read Demonland?? - a lot of opinion on here is based on emotions with very little fact. There are some good debats but you don't have to look too far to see a lot of emotion based opinon which is why I made my comment Back to your points I agree with what you are saying - The Dees this seasons have showed very little in terms of progress..... They lack a lot of basic fundementals in their game (tackling, ability to win 1 v 1 contests and decision making have all been very disturbing) What you've haven't read of my prior posts is I am asking how much can be put simply down to Neeld's fault - and how much can be put back on to the players with lack of leadership, experience and work rate to match it with quality teams Can you say with zero doubt that experienced and highly rated men in Craig and Mission have no idea what they are doing (Development coaches and assistants). It's hard to implement a game plane when the cattle isn't up to the task. People on here argue Neeld threw out our leaders - give me a list of leaders who left the club??? I can only think of James McDonald and Rivers (and Rivers choose to leave the club) What you fail to acknowledge in your argument is that you don't go to training, you don't know what the club/Neeld are focusing on, you don't know who is putting in and who isn't. You don't know what the instructions are, you don't know anything about the inner working It's easy to just simply blame the coach for all the wrongs, replace him and expect all the problems to disappear. What you lack in your argument is a lot of facts. Your fact are based on obesrvations from the outside. I sure know from reading training reports that combative 1 v 1 training and tacking was a focus - why is it failing on field now?? There are no easy answeres here - Neeld or whoever is in charge will not have an easy task. How long will it take to clean up this mess? Surely longer then 18 months - what if the new coach fails to produce in a year - does he get fired too??? You have a nice theory - but a lot of theories don't work in practice - maybe you should have that converstion with Neeld
-
It's easy to point fingers, blame everyone except the people who go on rhe park and actually play... Dint let emotion get in the way, there is plenty if blameto go around It's not just Neeld, culture changes take time, it's too hard to debate now. We are in rhe same page regarding the board etc... If they turn their back on Neeld they should all go
-
You're facts on Neelds performance (or lack of) dint give me a lot of confidence.... I don't think you take in to account no coach with a brain would want to step into the current MFc environment, who in their right mind would want to ruin their career coaching us now??
-
Just a gut feeling, it's the right direction?? We aren't going to take into account Mission and Craig are proven successful coaches with impressive records??? Culture changes dont happen overnight. I'll expect the boards resignation with Neelds sacking! Sounds like a heathy environment any new coach would jump at
-
I find it amusing that people here think sacking Neeld will magically solve all the problems...
-
You may think I am picking on you FT - I am not I do agree with what you say but I do wonder if you realise the majority of the team is very inexperienced at AFL laevel and may not be AFL conditioned which is why the game plan falls apart so easily??? I am not making excuses for Neeld - but i won't buy it's all his fault at the moemnt Craig's clip gave me a small smile for the fisrt time in a few week, i enjoyed it, even if he didn't give too much away
-
I personally don't suppor the sacking of Neeld this early in to a new season... If Neeld is sacked after a loss this weekend then the Don and board should also resign immeaditly.... I will have no faith in this current administration. You don't employ someone to do a job and sack them half way in to it. Also there is the Schwab issue This club is becoming a side show

Is the Malthouse (Neeld) Gameplan Untenable?
Cheap Seats replied to BhimaWylie's topic in Melbourne Demons
Viney and Toumpas, ring any bells? -
A pretty extensive list of leaders have emerged from this club.. it's pretty heartening haha.. sigh
-
I am not saying that sitting in the spa having a few beers is wrong... as a matter of fact I enjoy it myself. It's the preception that these blokes (MFC) don't do eveything possible to prepare themselves for games. After all who would want to listen to Storm players??? What have they ever acheived.... People need to wake up - our club is a basket case not only because of the Administration - our culture sucks all round
-
I heard this as well mate, it confirms for me that is not all Neelds fault.... I don't buy just blaming the coach and the game plan.... I don't buy this club can/could be turned around in 18 months I love a beer and drink when I watch the Dees so I am not knocking them for enjoying themselves... What worries me is that it's not the first time outside sorces have commented at the lack of professionalism of MFC players. And that lack of professionalism reflects the on field performance of the club. It's not all players but you can thell there is a core group who don't give a stuff
