It's to do with sponsorships and brand image for the AFL and clubs. Him letting his mate have a bet on a greyhounds race is non-issue and that's why the club has treated it as such and said there will be no punishment. Storm in a tea-cup and we move on. Hopefully he has a good game against the Tigers and works with in tandem with Hibberd!

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 5
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah it'd be a poor decision from the selection committee to drop Kent. He's my tip this week to have a big game against the Tigers. He's been threatening this year, just hasn't hit the scoreboard as much as we would've liked. His work up and down the field from half forward can be the difference between us playing good and poor football. He's got good pace, breaks lines, big kick to sail over zones, and puts on defensive pressure (most of the time). I'd have him in the team ahead of Hannan and ANB up forward at present. Ins this week should be Hogan and Hibberd. Outs should be Weiderman and Hannan. -
Haha good post! And no, he wouldn't be on here getting worked up at what some keyboard warriors think of him. I just get annoyed when I'm at the game, sitting amongst Melbourne supporters, and they're hurling insults at him. It shits me. Complain at the umpires all you want, but don't yell insults at your own team.
-
Congratulations. I'll bet you say the same about Frawley and Howe? Both decent footballers, like Melksham. While he's no world beater, he gets a bad wrap from people with a preconceived view of him and it's annoying to hear supporters having a go at him, usually for nothing. We need to support these guys and hope they grow together into something great!
-
This is year 2. The club signed him to 4 years knowing he would likely sit out the first one. He's best 22 at the moment despite a down game on the weekend. People have a preconceived view of him and unfortunately that probably won't change. Seems like it's a scandal every week so far this year. Really hope the coaching staff can get a hold of this group. They seem slightly ahead of themselves!

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 5
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seems like it'll be Out: Weiderman, Hannan In: Hogan, Hibberd Happy if those are the changes. Think Kent will have a big game. He's been threatening this year without being able to nail goals. He's the kind of player who willl fire against the Tigers -
It's not just this week, it's the next 6 rounds that are huge. They determine if we play finals in 2017 and if we have improved at all. Leading up to the bye we play: Richmond Essendon Hawthorn Adelaide North Melbourne Gold Coast The AFL handed us a really easy draw for the first half of the season. They basically handed us finals for 2017. If we [censored] it up we don't deserve to play finals and questions need to be asked why we haven't improved. We should win 4-5 of those 6 matches. Anything less than 4 wins and finals are likely out of the question for 2017. No finals in 2017 is a failure for the club in any way you look at it. Yes we're a developing young side, but we also haven't played finals for 11 years now and have enough talent in our team to win more often than not. The only times we lose are the times we don't turn up. No teams have really beat us yet, we've only lost games. We need to turn up to play every week for 4 quarters and do what should be done. It starts with Richmond this week. They've beat up on 3 crap teams and one decent team who struggle away from home. If we turn up with the right attitude to play, we will beat them. Even if Dusty gets 40 touches, we'll still beat them because we have a far better spread of talent across the park and better coaching staff.

Highlight of 2017 thus far!

Sounds like a disappointing outing for Casey. Glad Hibberd got through unscathed and good to see Trengove playing well.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Lord Travis replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think this would be a good move actually. Our half backs have been shaky this year with two way running and defending properly. Brayshaw is a great tackler. The thing he did best in his first year was bursting off half back and using his great side step agility to dodge opponents and tear up the middle of the ground. I can still remember that beautiful run and long pass over the Pies press to a running Garlett like it was yesterday. He had a big impact running forward and creating like that. Put him back there and see what happens. He's obviously behind the current on-ball brigade in Oliver, Viney and Jones so why not freshen him up off the half back line and play to his strengths again. -
Yep Watts needs to stay forward. He's our most dangerous forward and one of our best players again this year. He's finally found his position up forward and rotating for stints in the ruck and is flourishing. He always plays well against Richmond too. This time last year Rance king-hit him because he simply couldn't beat Jack any other way. Not the first time Watts has given Rance trouble either. Expecting another big game from Watts, he's superb. With both he and Hogan up forward, Richmonds mediocre defense will struggle!

My less obvious prediction for this week's match
Lord Travis replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dees by 29 points. Let's give these pretenders a reality check. Hogan to kick 5. Kent and Watts to kick 3. Oliver 30+ touches. Dusty to try and don't argue Petracca or Viney and wind up buried 6 feet under. -
Hopefully he is fine. We really need him to get a run of games under his belt and build up confidence and form. Would be a big difference to the team if he can do this. He was great in his first season! Keep fighting it out Casey, plenty of time to take control.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Lord Travis replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interestingly Roos said on Triple M this weekend that if he had to pick he would've taken Brayshaw at 1, Petracca at 2, and Mccartin at 3. Said Brayshaw has struggled with injury concerns and consistency but backed him to become a great player and the best pure on baller, while Petracca is more a forward/mid and impacts in bursts. Said once Brayshaw gets to spend more time on ball instead of being played in forward flanks and pockets that he will thrive. -
Do Suspended Players Still Get Paid
Lord Travis replied to Cranky Franky's topic in Melbourne Demons
They still get paid their base fee but do not get their match day payment. After the past two weeks the club should instate a rule that makes the players all forfeit their match day payments when they lose. We'll see if they still jog on the spot if they don't get their money (Obviously a joke but Jesus this team has taken years off my life!) -
Agreed. And the few times the ball spilt forward in the centre bounces and we got it going forward instead of backwards caught them unaware and lead directly to goals or scoring shots. The coaching staff need to come up with some different plans. They were out coached yesterday. No team should ever concede 8 goals in a row and still not bother to change tactics. Throw a man behind the ball and kill momentum or something at least. The coaches sticking to a very offensive game plan that was clearly not working cost us the game yesterday. Hopefully Goodwin is learning something from these losses and looks at becoming more flexible and developing a plan b.
-
Considering Roos tried to spend years teaching them to defend, it's alarming how lazy our mids are pushing back when they lose possession of the ball. No team should ever be out numbered in their own defensive 50. It is unacceptable in any circumstance and is purely due to not working hard enough both ways. You don't have to be a skilled team to push back and defend to stop momentum. The 3rd quarter today was unacceptable in any circumstances by any team at AFL level. the players should be forced to watch it on loop until they understand the work rate that is required to play at the highest level.
-
Who would have thought at the start of the year that Jack Viney would be showing no intensity and struggling, whilst Jack Watts would be busting his gut and leading the team! Been a strange season so far! Credit to Watts for playing good football and busting his gut so far this season. He'd have to be top 5 in bluey again. Hopefully Viney finds form as he is having now impact at all this year. So disappointing thus far this season.
-
Yeah it was demoralizing. To see him get brushed aside by Crozier and Weller in the 3rd quarter was demoralizing. He is just completely lacking intensity right now. He used to be a little ball of intensity that would smash into packs and rip opponents into the ground with hard tackles. They'd [censored] themselves when he was near! Today he tackled multiple blokes around the hips and was just thrown aside time and time again. It was the worst I have seen him look since he was drafted. He might not have had his worst game numbers wise, but he was seriously taking up space out there today. I hope the coaching staff can help him get back into form because we need him firing and leading!
-
100% agree. Even if you just flood back and stop the momentum, it's inexcusable to give up 8 goals in a row to any team ever.
-
He has been horrendous all year, even in the JLT he was average. His intensity is completely gone. His accelation out of packs is completely gone. His strength to hold tackles is completely gone. He's not the same player who won the bluey last year. Giving him the captaincy was obviously a poor decision but it can't be undone now. If he didn't have the C next to his name you'd suggest a run in the twos would be good for him, he's just that ineffective at the moment.
-
Jack Viney is a complete liability his year. He can't even stick a tackle anymore let alone get a clean disposal. I'd make a statement and drop him.
-
Absolutely disgusting effort today. The players should have to forfeit their pay for the day. They simply haven't earnt it. We're losing to a bottom 4 team that's flown half way across the country to play. Absolutely pathetic effort. Even if we get up and win from here they shouldn't be [censored] ashamed of themselves!
-
He got held off the ball multiple times so he couldn't lead. Umpires have missed 4-5 free kicks to him so far this match. He's having no impact but he's being cheated out there. Copped a corky in a pack so has a bit of a limp now too.
-
Yeah he's dropped off big time. Not winning much ball, giving away poor are kicks and 50 metre penalties, missing basic kicks. He used to be a very good player but the end appears to be coming quickly for him. Most of Sydneys midfield has been down this year thus far. JPK keeps on trucking, Hannebury and Parker are still winning ball but not having as much impact. They'll welcome Heaney back once he's ready, he's an absolute gun in the making.
