TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 4
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree with this. Armfield looks like a deadset d1ckhead. -
SEN pull apart Ozzie a.k.a Oscar McDonald
Lord Travis replied to Dappa Dan's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think most of the people on here who are saying some negative things about Oscar, myself included, can see he is a decent prospect long term. That doesn't mean he isn't frustrating in the short term. I see him and Weid as very similar at the moment. Oscar is completely lacking in intensity at the contest and is losing far more contests than he should due to his current lack of strength. Seeing him get pushed around by guys 10-15cms shorter and 5-10kgs lighter is frustrating. I think he reads the ball ok, and although he has a few deer in headlight moments he is generally a decent kick of the ball, more reliable than his older brother in that regard. There is enough there to suggest he is a decent long term prospect, but right now, in the present, he is not playing at the required level IMO. Weid is similar. At present he is not having an impact on game and isn't getting involved enough. I'd have dropped him before Oscar based on form. 4 touches in a game is not good enough no matter what position you are playing. Long term though, you can see he has the attributes to be a good player. He launches at the ball in the air better than anyone else in the team, he just isn't sticking many of them yet. He's also a good disposer of the ball by both hand and foot and brings his team mates into the game when he can. He needs to get to more contests, and once he gets fitter he'll be able to do that and have more of an impact. The frustration comes in that we can see they could be good players long term, but right now they're not strong enough or fit enough and are just getting pushed around and not having an impact. With injuries/suspensions there aren't other to cover their absence so they are being played when they probably shouldn't be, which isn't entirely their fault. Hopefully with time both will become good players. I'm very sure Weid will, I'm fairly sure Oscar will also. -
TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 4
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Shows what the coaches think of Oscar so far this year if they're replacing him with Frost who has barely played VFL yet due to injury. Not sure it's a good move to rush players in so quickly if they aren't 100% fit or close to, but I like what Frost brings to the backline. He is so quick for a big guy and if he doesn't try anything to fancy he gives us good drive out of the backline too. Good to see Bugg rewarded for great VFL form. Surprised Weid didn't get dropped as he is struggling so far this year. Smith is a bit unlucky to be dropped after one game but that's footy for you! Hogan back next week! -
He plays his best footy as solo number 1 ruck. We have Gawn, so he would become second ruck/forward. He wouldn't want to play the second fiddle, and we wouldn't want to pay what we'd need to to get him. It's a no from both parties for mine. Another club who need a number 1 ruck will throw cash at him. We currently have the All Australian ruckman, who is also younger than Kreuzer. There are other areas of our list to focus on instead.

Don't like seeing this but it's not the end of the world. As long as he comes back in good form ready to repay the club then it's a minor indiscretion. He's obviously going through a tough period with his fathers illness and having a cigarette isn't the end of the world. If it becomes habit then that's obviously a different matter. You'd think in this day and age though players would be smarter. They are educated better than ever and given more assistance too. Hopefully he comes back and has a ripping season as repayment. The 2 weeks off give him time to get over any niggles he may have had so there are no excuses not to perform to a higher standard this year. I expect him to break the 50 goal mark this year and will be disappointed if he doesn't.

Raise hell Jake!

It's gonna hurt us badly. Max is obviously dominant in the hit outs, but he gives us a good marking target all around the ground. Half the time the kick out is bombed to him as at worst it will come to ground. Spencer doesn't have that same marking power. Max is also smart enough to read the play and get behind the ball to take goal saving marks etc It also means we'll become less aggressive at centre bounces as we were backing ourselves to win the tap most of time. Now we'll have to become less agggrasive and more traditional which is disappointing as it was one of the things that separated us from other teams. Hope Maxy makes a speedy recovery and can return for finals action later this year!

Viney has been poor this year. His numbers still look ok, but his intensity around the contest is completely gone. The past few years he was like a terrier n there smashing into guys and barking out orders and insults. This year he's completely lacking in intensity and ironically leadership. It's lucky for us Jones has stepped up again and our midfield is now a lot deeper so it's not as noticeable and isn't as big an issue as it would've been in the past. He definitely needs a kick up the ass though. Not good enough from a captain to miss simple goals and go into his shell instead of leading the way. Hope he finds intensity soon because he's ineffective at present. I've been a Watts defender in the past and it's great to see he is having another good year. He wasn't at his best in rounds 1+2, but he was still good. I'll take 20 touches and 2 goals a game from him every week if that's what he offers on top of the many he sets up. He was outstanding yesterday. He must be one of the mentally tough players to ever play the game to cop the amount of crap he does from everywhere and still bust his gut time and time again. We know he's skillful but yesterday he ran himself into the ground for the team in a position he's not suited to playing. He gets my respect for busting his ass and having such a big impact. If only his teammates had his skill and drive, we would've won by 70 points!

Can't go today but will be trying to sneak a few glimpses on my phone. Any late changes? How's the ground? Hope we can roll them! Oliver for another 30+ possession game and Petracca to fire up and kick 4.
-
He did what I dream of doing every weekend I watch us play (minus a few fists thrown in for good measure). Just another talent of his to appreciate On the positive side, if Hogan did have a niggle this gives him time to get over it and come back super fit and ready to rip the comp apart!
-
Can't come back from 0-3. They travel now and play West Coast and GWS next two weeks. They're missing a few key players. Swans Will fight back into the 8 but won't go all the way now. Their mids have lost form at a remarkable rate. Jack has been average for a while now, but Parker, Hannebury, JPK etc have gone from league leaders to average this year. Pies are decent middle of the ladder team this year. Hope we roll them twice again!
-
Swans midfield as a whole has been ordinary tonight. Can they stand up at the end when they need to? Zac Jones has been good tonight. He a real goer that kid!
-
Watts got pulled into a scrap and then the umpire didn't let him into the centre square as he was getting ready for the bounce. Same thing would've happened to Gawn if he was there and no-one would've made a big deal of it. Because it was Watts of course it's being blown out of proportion. Ridiculous. Anyhow, how about that Clayton Oliver kid? Having a ripping year and looks set to become our first elite player in a long long time. If he can maintain his current form while copping the attention that will come his way then he'll be top 20 player in the comp within a year. Love him!

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 3
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Brayshaw was omitted and likely playing VFL instead. Hopefully he can find some form then return to the seniors and have an impact. He's really struggled with injury and form this last 12 months after a good debut year. -
Good luck Bull! Raise Hell!

Geelong aren't unstoppable. They'll play finals but aren't a flag threat IMO If we beat them I'll be surprised and start to believe we are real contenders this year.

Christian Salem - future position role
Lord Travis replied to Bobby Clark's topic in Melbourne Demons
No concerns over talent or application. We just need him to stay on the park! -
Yes I hope it's a different dynamic that game. I hope we're 10 goals up at half time and have the game on ice. Then the boys can spend the second half following them to the ball purely so they can annihilate them repeatedly in tackles, see if they can replicate some Byron Pickett moments! Be nice to bury a few of their campaigners like Armfield into the turf and make sure they stay down. For now it's time to move on and prepare for Geelong this week.
-
The inconsistency is the only issue I have. Our players shouldn't have done what they did, although they probably got a week longer than I thought they should've. How Thompson only got one week is a mystery though! Dangers arms were pinned and he was defenseless and Thompson intentionally throws his weight behind an elbow to the head. Should've got 3-4 weeks compared to the others! I wish Barry Hall had smashed the c*nts head open when he had the chance! Such a pesky thug and he somehow keeps getting away with it.

Where does this view of Melksham come from? Melksham was one of our few players who ran hard all day. While others were standing round lazily he was running across time and time again switching Thebes's ball across the ground for us. Offensively he was the best of our back 6 on the weekend. He barely missed a target. Jetta held it down defensively and Melksham held it down offensively. Lack of physicality? This is the same guy who's laid the most bumps in the team thus far this year you're talking about right? How does he lack physicality? I'm getting sick of reading this [censored] about him on here from people who obviously have a pre-conceived view of him and aren't watching him and judging him on his current output. I sound like a broken record but it's just getting ridiculous now IMO Vince in for Lewis. Not sure who comes in for Hogan as it should be a tall. Is Pedo fit yet?

I hate how inconsistent the MRP is with these sanctions. Somehow these are worth 2 and 3 weeks but other more damaging and intentional hits don't carry the same weight?? So frustrating for this to happen just when we are building momentum. Not surprised Lewis is suspended as it was probably going to happen with him at some stage due to his 'unsociable' history. Hogan being out for a few weeks with no prior record is unexpected and going to hurt us big time. We need him structurally as Watts is down on form and Weid is not ready to kick bags or be the number 1 big target. There must be other vision we haven't seen. The Lewis one of barely worth a fine let alone 3 weeks. Cripps took a dive and got p and minute later laughing as he jogged away. Absolute rubbish! [censored] you MRP!

Jones should have retained sole captaincy this year. He is playing the best football of his career. Viney however has struggled throughout the JLT series and now the first two rounds into the season proper. He should've been added to the leadership group or at most made Vice Captain. He simply isn't mature enough yet. Jones has always been a warrior on the inside, but his outside run and kicking have improved dramatically. I can't remember a player ever improving their kicking skills so drastically so late into their career. He's gone from an average kick to a really damaging kick. His field kicking is brilliant, low and flat, and he's always been able to bomb goals from 50. His agility is really good now too. In the past he would try to bulldoze his way through tackles, now he is able to avoid tacklers and dispose to advantage instead of be caught or bombing the ball to nothing. Really impressed with how well he's developed later in his career and hope he gets to be part of the success after battling through so much rubbish for most of his career.

Feel sorry for the kids sitting near me today. I lost it in the third quarter and unleashed some horrible language. This team tests me sometimes! Very relieved we won!
-
It is a bit rare I'll give you that! He was one of our only blokes running hard all game for the spread though, which you wouldn't see on TV. He was good today and will only get better with Vince and Hibberd in to help share that load. We played like millionaires at times today and refused to run hard defensively. Being outnumber in your defensive 50 is unacceptable and Goodwin should give them a rocket when going over the tape.
-
He was good today. When our other backs and kids refused to run and spread he was constantly making space across half back and switching it when needed. He is one of the few positives from today. We need to get Vince and Hibberd back in to give him a hand as he was doing it on his own for much of today. Jetta is our rock defensively and atm Melksham is our smartest rebounder. Hunt is a bit up and down at the moment and is more of a one man show. He's having to learn with getting more attention. Still love him though. So exciting to watch. Mids didn't use the ball well today. Their kicking into the 50 was abysmal at times. They also didn't push back when they turned it over. There were multiple instances of Carlton forwards outnumbering our defenders in the back 50. That's unforgivable in any AFL game and shows a lack of effort to run both ways. Clarry, Jones, Salem and Garlett were all good today. Viney and Lewis were not. Viney is well down on intensity and work rate this year thus far which is disappointing. Hopefully he gets going soon! Happy we were able to grind out a win despite not playing great. We would've lost that game the last few years so it shows we're improving steadily finally!
