Round 21 Preview (honouring CHF)
Update: after a manic weekend - Weagles playing for survival - advantage them Bradbury run for the Dees in top spot - Olympic level motivation, advantage Dees Weather - advantage us (better for the high pressure, lower skilled team)

How do Bulldogs do it?
I can see how the umpires make both calls with clear conscience. The HTM decision, if the ball was dislodged in the tackle (no effort to dispose) then the tackle lingered and could be seen as HTM. The Dangerous tackle was there if the umpire overlooked the incorrect disposal. Had prior opportunity and did not get rid of it correctly, so should have been called. After the no call, the tackle can be seen as dangerous, the arm was pinned, the head was slung into the ground. They could have both easily gone the other way if the maggot blew the whistle as soon as the first infringement happens (both against Bont). Letting it play out led to the second obvious frees emerging. Easier to blow these ones.

Should we draft Tex?
Let Matty Whelan make the call…

Taylor Walker - sanction for racism
6 week ban puts him 3 weeks into next season. Wonder what his contract term is- didn’t he just get another year? Don’t know what was said, but huge kudos to the official for doing what was right rather than what was easy. Given how clearly out of social standards this is, might be hard for him to get past this one. Not a good look, and will impact his legacy I reckon.

Round 21 Preview (honouring CHF)
CHF has had to bow out, so I’ll give this a crack: We are sitting third after belting the hapless suns last week. Should have won by a ton, but 1.6 in the last cost us that little piece of trivia. We need some good results over the next 3 to set us up for the finals. Looking to Monday night WCE lost to Pies, and badly. Advantage us We thrashed GCS. Advantage us WCE are at home, with crowds. Advantage them Jack Viney out: advantage the media who will keep saying ‘it’s not a good look’. Demons showed defensive application all day, and scored over 100 points. Advantage us. The Eagles are a different team on their own deck, with crowds and umpires on side. We have had an ‘interesting’ travel schedule, but the time in lockdown could be positive for the team on the back of the big win. We will have to win the middle, keep the ball in front of us (not let it leak to their runners from contests) and not bomb it into their intercept defenders. Nic Nat to have 5 good mins per quarter, Max and Dogga to own the rest. Harmes to hard tag Kelly, and not be allowed to kick for goal! They have looked insipid at times and could roll over easy, but I think they will make it a contest due to home ground factor I see this as being a strong opportunity to grab another 4 points. Dees by 42 after a good start, a bit of a WCE comeback, then clearing out to a comfy Monday night win.

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs West Coast
Can’t see too many changes. TMac to be OK, Viney out to give neck massages and JJ comes in. Vanders as an outside choice, maybe as sub. Harmes to lock onto Kelly, and Dogga to leap with Nic Nat more than Gawny. Weids obvious replacement for TMac if he doesn’t come up, and Hibbo for Salem (using Bowery in Salem’s role) if he is forced out.

2021 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Even if he was the 6th best kid, clubs are going to have their own needs/rankings as well. Might be there are teams who need more ready to go talent, more midfield support, more outside run, more footy smarts (what we went after last year). Where Mac ends up will depend on many factors, and I think only the pre-draft phantoms (when the clubs are leaking their preferences) will tell us much. The ones you can take to the bank are guys like Daicos, who wont make it out of the top 3. Andrew could be a square peg in a round hole - even for the demons.

Jack Viney Suspended for 2 Weeks
Person should be innocent until PROVEN guilty. If the evidence is inconclusive, what can he actually be guilty of? This is a joke. If we penalised things because they look bad, then Franklin’s elbow? Hawkins elbow on May? Selwood raking the face? Essendon Players haircuts? I think an appeal is in order. They did not prove their case. The jury rolled to tv commentator pressure.

Jack Viney Suspended for 2 Weeks
Defence runs like this: collins initiated off the ball incident after tackle/collision. This stopped jv moving out of the area. Taken to ground and continuously pulled two hands by jumper. Viney bracing himself/trying to leverage himself free. Elbow position was not intentional but as a result of the wrestling action of Collins. No case to answer. if he did a Selwood and simply attacked an opponent with an elbow to the neck then it is a bad look. Need to see not just a single frame but the whole incident to make sense of it. And context- we are 98 fricken points up!

What umpire number do they wear.?

CASEY: Rd 16 vs Western Bulldogs
Coverage? Any hope of seeing it on the box or the inter web?

Mac Andrew
I think Cal Toomey is using Mac as Clickbait. 8th ranked player in the draft?? The kid has a bit of x-factor, but can’t see teams taking such a risk. Would think there are a lot of more AFL ready kids in the pool, ones that would be lower risk. Mac has a few tricks, but his positioning off the ball and movement between contests needs work, he will need to add about 20 kg to that frame and he will need to do more than 1 quarter of footy to make it into AN afl team. My belief is he will ‘slide’ and may be a available for us to get a discount on- whether or not we even choose to take him is still not set in stone. We have other needs too.

Any logic behind taking Pickett off immediately after each goal?
Picketts goals came after dry spells, so it was probably over time for a rest for him and others anyway

POSTGAME: Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Was there no Goody presser? Can’t find it anywhere…

NON MFC: Rd 19 2021
I think it is about interfering with the marking contest/genuine attempt. Players who don’t have eyes on the ball and collide with a marking player are deemed to be interfering with a genuine attempt.

My Round 19 Preview and Prediction
Hi CHF, happy to step in. Our result against the hawks - advantage them Midfield chaos thanks to Covid - advantage us MCG - advantage us no crowd - advantage them. Yo-yo result - advantage Sportsbet. This is an interesting game and the outcome depends on how we show up. If we keep the ball in front of us, dont get sucked into the contest and win the contested ball, we win. If we let them win the middle and fail to stop their throws/pinball out of the contest, we will get done. We need to see increases in accuracy in front of goal, and lifts across the park in terms of ball handling. This is not a make or break game, but it is important for how we see ourselves. Are we (cough) premiership material or are we falling over? A chance for the 2021 deMons to show up. Hope Brown gets a few, and we are cleaner by hand and foot. Dees by 25.

Trade Targets
Collingwood will probably need to go into a rebuild under the new coach. It would be time to shed a few names and bank a few picks, looking 3 years down the pipe. This squad isnt going to get near a flag, so turning over some names will be inevitable. Maynard might be spilled in such a situation

Dees vs Bulldogs This Week
No FTA coverage I’d reckon. Seven will be hips deep in the olympics. Doesn’t matter when it is played.

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Hawthorn
A look after a lie down and a cuppa. We have come from being very poor (2019), average (2020) to being a good team. We have not created a dynasty, or even understand what ruthless would look like. We are a team that has ‘something’ and is competitive (how big are our losses - we have not been smashed once this year). There are still massive holes in what we do, but when we do our basics well, we are a very good side. Not great. Not yet. Last night was particularly disappointing with the way we gave it up. A long way in front and we simply wilted. Very poor. But this is our first year being ‘up there’ - we still have a lot to learn. Take a look at the top 4 and we are surrounded by teams expected to be there and with histories of being there to draw on. There is the bones of something here. Last night was unacceptable as the ‘new Melbourne’, but I am not unhappy with where we have shifted to. Its the next bits that will win us a flag.

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Hawthorn
I cannot express my contempt strongly enough for that. Over 20 points up and put the cue in the rack. Ball watched. Outworked. Over-using. Outcoached. Poor attention to structures. Goodness, we snuck away with 2 points. feels in every way like a loss.
