  1. Think this is very smart… Hibb and Melk get a seniors card rest for this game, Smith gets to show his wares in a slightly different role, and we still have Hibb and Melk good to go if we have an injury forward or back. Suspect JJ will be medi-sub.
  2. I’m already over $600 deep in a membership that meant i sat in my reserved seat once this year, and wont get to any finals. I have no income in lockdown and wonder more about getting through than what i can give to the footy club.
  3. I also liked that we put a different roster through the middle with Gus in the guts, winning clearances at the end. Lots of resting minutes into the main crew, and a chance for others to demonstrate that they should run through on occasion. I can see rivers going through there in years to come. in the finals we are going to need to win the contest and the middle.
  4. Max dropped 6 marks he should have easily taken. The last of which led to the cry of anguish at the boundary line. He certainly stepped up in other areas, but his marking was way off.
  5. Dogga by the Flemington straight, except if Geelong have someone nominated (bending the rules for players over 30)
  6. May out and Smith in. I wonder how early in the week Smith knew? Good chance to give May a rest, and to see where Smith fits in. I reckon Petty steps into the May role, and smith plays more of a hybrid hunt/petty role. A good chance for all in such glorious conditions.
  7. Hopefully we are now more of a ‘destination’ and dont have to pay massive overs to land players who want to come to a top team. We will have to clean out at least 3 from the primary list, and probably need a clearance bull type an additional wing prospect and a key forward to develop. Lots to spill out of Collingwood again, and maybe the hawks and blues with deck chairs being kicked about. I can also see some trades for points from a few teams with academy and FS selections. Be interesting to see how hard we go at trade or if we just sit quietly and top up through the draft?
  8. “Its a long way from the top when you’re an MFCSS troll…” (sing along at home, kids!)
  9. Play it today to rub Adelaide’s nose in their own filth..and show our support for the cause of equality and respect. Might be a great idea.
  10. At the start of the year, the preferred lineup was Brown and Weids. Both went down injured and TMac had a Bradbury-esque run at the forward position. Without those injuries, I wonder how this season would have unfolded? TMac got in and demanded his spot every week. The other two not so much. Brown now working into some form, and Weids has to be patient. He has had his chance, and couldn’t deliver. Will he stay? Who knows - M Brown and Daw no real rivals, but useful back up. IF he goes would need to look at a young replacement.
  11. Thanks, Rusty. Kozzie seemed to be running to the wrong places and trying too hard. Would like to see more i50 tackles from him - i think this underscores his game when he does this, the rest happens. Interesting list comparison: Perhaps it showed up in that we have the legs and they ran out of puff and needed the lightning break. Bottom 6 are a worry.Expect AVB to be at risk, and maybe sparrow. Others have the runs on the board and Melksham may have done enough with his cameos and goals.
  12. The third quarter was instructive. AVB gave them their only goal. For the rest, we won the majority of contests, wore them down and created scoring opportunities. the 10 minute mark we were only about 6 points up, and the dam broke from there. Nic Nac jogged after Max (what the hell is wrong with his goal kicking? He is a good field kick), and we were well on top. This was the game. Other observations: Kelly is so slick at moving the ball out of contests. Almost every time he was hands on they got a clean exit. Don’t know what drugs they took for the coaches votes. Nic Nac 1 vote after that? For the one mark? The umpiring was all over the shop. At one point it looked like the Demons were almost second guessing their engagements as the free kicks were so blatantly running against them (in the 2nd) There was a massive scoring differential to right of screen. Our misses to the left were dreadful, and could cost us a close final. Kozzi showed them how it was done. After the lightning we were defending against the tide with them having nothing to lose - it was ugly, but we (just) got the job done. They benefited from the breather more than we did, which shows that we have better match fitness across the match. We are still immature in many ways and it showed up on our execution post-lightning delay. Some impressive role players right across the park Petty, rivers, bowey, jj, Harmes. Special mentions to ANB and Dogga. Kozzi tried to do too much and was not running to the right spots. Still did lots of good in between. AVB brings ‘tough’, when what we need is ‘touch’. Might struggle to retain his spot. I think we still have a lot of improvement in us. We have a lot of good things going for us, and when we bring our full defensive press we are going to be tough to beat. Glad we walked off with the 4 points.
  13. Nic Nac highly influential - when he went missing for the third quarter….
  14. No. Nothing short of 4 points thanks.
  15. From John’s weather channel: A pair of cold fronts are causing a wild and wintry start to the week in southwestern Australia, with damaging winds, hail and snow all on the cards during the next two days. The first of two cold fronts swept over the southwest of WA early on Sunday night into Monday morning, producing squally showers and wind gusts of up to 94 km/h at Cape Leeuwin and Rottnest Island. This front is now weakening as it moves to the east, although another system is approaching from the west. A second and stronger cold front will charge across the southwest of WA from Monday afternoon into the evening, bringing another round of showers, small hail and potentially damaging winds. Wind gusts could reach around 100km/h with showers or thunderstorms on Monday afternoon and night, most likely to the south of Bunbury and west of Albany. Abnormally high tides and damaging surf are also likely along the coasts in this region, which could cause localised flooding and beach erosion. A cold air mass will then surge across southwestern Australia in the wake of the two fronts, delivering small hail and possibly a dusting of snow on the peaks of the Stirling Range on Tuesday. Perth will see frequent showers during the first two days of this week and should only reach about 15ºC on Tuesday, which is four degrees below average for this time of year. This wet and wintry weather won't give umbrellas much of a chance to dry out after the city's wettest July in 26 years. Www.weatherzone.com.ah
  16. Update: after a manic weekend - Weagles playing for survival - advantage them Bradbury run for the Dees in top spot - Olympic level motivation, advantage Dees Weather - advantage us (better for the high pressure, lower skilled team)
  17. I can see how the umpires make both calls with clear conscience. The HTM decision, if the ball was dislodged in the tackle (no effort to dispose) then the tackle lingered and could be seen as HTM. The Dangerous tackle was there if the umpire overlooked the incorrect disposal. Had prior opportunity and did not get rid of it correctly, so should have been called. After the no call, the tackle can be seen as dangerous, the arm was pinned, the head was slung into the ground. They could have both easily gone the other way if the maggot blew the whistle as soon as the first infringement happens (both against Bont). Letting it play out led to the second obvious frees emerging. Easier to blow these ones.
  18. Feeling dirty watching this. Am I barracking for those drug cheating whinge bags? I’m confused!
  19. Let Matty Whelan make the call…
  20. 6 week ban puts him 3 weeks into next season. Wonder what his contract term is- didn’t he just get another year? Don’t know what was said, but huge kudos to the official for doing what was right rather than what was easy. Given how clearly out of social standards this is, might be hard for him to get past this one. Not a good look, and will impact his legacy I reckon.
  21. CHF has had to bow out, so I’ll give this a crack: We are sitting third after belting the hapless suns last week. Should have won by a ton, but 1.6 in the last cost us that little piece of trivia. We need some good results over the next 3 to set us up for the finals. Looking to Monday night WCE lost to Pies, and badly. Advantage us We thrashed GCS. Advantage us WCE are at home, with crowds. Advantage them Jack Viney out: advantage the media who will keep saying ‘it’s not a good look’. Demons showed defensive application all day, and scored over 100 points. Advantage us. The Eagles are a different team on their own deck, with crowds and umpires on side. We have had an ‘interesting’ travel schedule, but the time in lockdown could be positive for the team on the back of the big win. We will have to win the middle, keep the ball in front of us (not let it leak to their runners from contests) and not bomb it into their intercept defenders. Nic Nat to have 5 good mins per quarter, Max and Dogga to own the rest. Harmes to hard tag Kelly, and not be allowed to kick for goal! They have looked insipid at times and could roll over easy, but I think they will make it a contest due to home ground factor I see this as being a strong opportunity to grab another 4 points. Dees by 42 after a good start, a bit of a WCE comeback, then clearing out to a comfy Monday night win.
  22. ‘Not a good look’- the lowest common denominator statement about JV atm. Spot on - where was the commentary re Selwood? Shouldn’t he comment on behalf of the players, not sink the boot?
  23. Patrick Dangerfield should shut his pie hole on this one.
