Yes. It would seem that “health and safety protocols” will be a thing for the AFLW season and possibly going into the AFL season unless things with Omnicron can stabilize quickly. This could make 2022 a bit of a crap shoot.

TRAINING: Friday 14th January 2022

Great reports guys. Comforting to know we have great depth and can readily replace all bar a few players (we know who they are) in the event of injury. -
Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen

Well, if memory serves me correctly, he swooned about one ruck/KPP last year and probably thinks he was vindicated when that player was picked at 5. Wonder if that bloke’s training the house down at Carrara and whether, like Dogga, he’ll be a premiership ruckman by the end of his second season on an AFL list? -

Ha ha Knightmare. Wasn’t he the one who argued that Luke Jackson didn’t deserve to be picked as high as number 3 in his draft? 😀 -

Saturday Morning on Demonland (12)

I don’t think I’ve changed all that much but then again, I don’t think that it’s sunk in yet. I think I need to have the feeling of walking to the ground across the concourse to be at the start of a game at the G and to watch the unfurling of OUR premiership flag for me to know that it’s finally happened. -
He was one of those players who worked hard at his game and was continually improving. Not a champion but the type of player you always want on your team because he was always reliable and you could count on him to do the job at hand.

I seem to recall that before Demetriou installed Jackson and funded his $$$ requests he knocked back several other requests for help from us and other lowly clubs at the behest of Eddie and Hawthorn and Geelong Presidents that helped their clubs remain at the top while the lower clubs struggled, particularly to allow GWS and GC17 get off the ground. The assistance to us only came when the situation was dire. -
2022 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Won’t happen. GWS have already announced they’re going to pick him up with a six figure contract offer and a recruiting job for his old man. -
Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP)

Let’s not forget that the club’s recruiting staff had their eyes on Judd McVee going back a number of years. He was an All-Australian at Under-16s level in 2019 and is renowned for his kicking skills and good vision. They considered him low risk and snapped him up as a rookie. Makes sense to me. -
Just got home and it was wonderful to see the smiling faces on some of the older supporters there. They’ve waited a long time.

Tonight’s Draft - The First Crack

Fahey will be a good steady footballer for GWS but he didn't attract attention because he's not flambouyant and there's nothing out of the ordinary about him. Andrew has a great highlights package but the question mark is can he do that consistently at a high level? -
Welcome to Demonland: Andy Moniz-Wakefield

Sounds about par for the course with the Suns. They effectively have one pick in this draft after stuffing up their salary cap, list management and letting one of their few veteran hard bodied mids slip to a rival cellar dwellar. Why not take a highly speculative skinny ruck prospect who is said to be AFL ready in 2024?

The interesting one will actually be another NGA prospect in St Kilda’s Mitch Owens who had an enormous game for Vic Metro in July but has barely been seen in the interim. He’s grown from being a medium sized midfielder who is a dime a dozen to a tall who can play midfield and forward who might come in handy.

Most of the draft experts in the media and on the ‘net are saying this literally in the same breath as they are pumping him up as a top 10 draft pick.

Welcome to the world of the sceptics AJ. When Melbourne drafted Luke Jackson with pick three in the 2019 National Draft, there was some criticism about us picking a ruckman that early. Even elite young ruckmen take time to develop, sometimes years, we were told and it was always a risk to project too far into the future. I don’t think it’s panic that’s causing all the excitement and hype about Andrew. Perhaps, it’s the shortage of ruckmen available - demand and supply lifting his price?
