You can't punish the future administration for the actions of the past one. We are an absolute basket case, the AFL can't have a club that is so far off the pace. They accept that GWS is developing and have the talent to improve next year, we don't. The AFL has a choice help us out and hopefully we don't stuff up our draft picks or run the risk of the MFC being a severely uncompetitive for many years to come. With Free agency if you are a half decent footballer, such as James Frawley, if you can't see any improvement or chance to play finals you will move on. Priority picks don't make a list but it can help and we need all the help we can get. I don't think the AFL will give us pick 1 unless we come last, I think we will get a pick straight after our first pick and hopefully Col Sylvia goes and the AFL gives us a pick after our second round pick, trade Jack Watts for Carlton first round pick, giving us picks 2,3,9,20,21

We should load up Casey. It would be interesting to know who qualifies for the finals. Week 1 I believe all players are due to the MFC still playing, any player that is border line to qualify for the finals play them at Casey, get them qualified and let casey have a red hot crack in the finals. The club has spoken about hope, give us a VFL flag that is a start.
-
When you want someone to stand up our players sit back and hope some else does. Team of absolute pretenders, this club is stuffed. They need to move our Freo game to casey, you can't have 4000 at the mcg. No president, no board, no coach, no Players, no major sponsor we are stuffed

Casey and recruitment holding back player development.

Really, Taggert has had every chance to play in the midfield, his body has let him down, it has nothing to do with Casey. We haven't drafted any good midfielders, that is the problem, Gent and Best are about 21/22 years old, the fact is both these guys are better midfielders than what we have at Casey. Are these two blokes slowing the development of MFC players, no way in fact the players we draft should be better players than these 2, the fact is beside we don't have any players capable of playing in our midfield. Last year wew drafted Toumpas(playing for MFC), Viney(playing for MFC), Barry at Casey, M Jones(playing for MFC) and Terlich(playing for MFC). Year before we had Taggert and Tynon who both have stuggled to get their bodies right. Tappy, Jetta don't have the tank to run through the midfield. Who else do we have that can Casey is holding back? -

Did we have it wrong or Taggert coming back from a long term injury easing back through the HFF and building his running capacity. -

If you watch Casey, beside Magner and Couch, the young Casey Midielders I think Gent and Best are very good players, ideally would love these to be two Melbourne players, but the fact is these guys are better midfielders than the Melbourne young midfielders, in fact if these two were on the MFC list they would most likely be getting a game. Just shows the real lack of any Midfielders we have -

What a load of garbage, have a good look at the Casey team, basically every available player is in the Casey firsts, I think a couple of weeks ago we had 15+ MFC players in the Casey team. No disrespect to Casey, but the Casey FC is the Melbourne VFL team with Casey Top up players. Player Development hasn't been hindered by our relationship with Casey, look at the best players last week Hogan, Taggert, Strauss, Spencer and Tynan/Barry also had very good games. There are no players that aren't getting games because Casey players, this is the difference between Casey and Sandy, our young players spent more time in the Sandy seconds because the Sandy players were played. -
It is a fair enough call, funny we win a game he comes out saying he wants to stay at Melbourne, we get thumped and he wants to hold off talks. I'm happy for Jack to stay and hope he does but if he doesn't he still has good trade value. Carlton can have him for Chis Yarren and a swap of our Third round pick for there second, I would take this. Fremantle, I would be pushing for straight swap for Mundy.
-
Once again pushing his agenda in the media, he is trying to sell himself into the role. We need a fresh face not recycled people, our recent history with people coming back to the club hasn't turned out that well

Get ready for preseason Chip, take Jamar and Evans with you.

Taggert doesn't deserve a game, one good game doesn't mean you should be selected, the guy was dropped to the development league a couple of weeks back because he couldn't get near the footy. Since returning his form is better and he is cementing his spot in the Casey 1sts. If he can string a couple of good games together then he will be considered. I'm amazed by the Taggert love, I know we are desperate for Midfield talent, he doesn't play in the midfield at Casey, last week even in the comments played Half Forward with some time in the middle. Davey had a stinker on Saturday, but he has been on of our better players this year, doesn't say much for most of our players.
-
Soxy, if that was the selection critea we wouldn't be able to field a team. We only have 4-5 players that can kick properly and make good decisions. The difference between Nicho and most of the others he can win get the footy.

How have they gone so far this year, the playing group has been united by this. No one knows is it 1 player or the whole list that will be sanctioned. The players will get off or worse case a couple might get a 3mth ban. The club will be punished, they will be stripped of premiership points this season and if the AFL had guts which they don't against big clubs should be stripped of next years points as well. Stripping this year no issues they can't win the flag this year, but if they can keep their players which they will they can win the flag next year.

Totally different to Carlton, Essendon are on the way up, Carlton had just come off a successful period with an aging list, Essendon have enough on their list to be more than competitive for the next 5 years. In fact they have the quality of players on their list at the moment that will see them in contention for the 2014/15 premiership. Team B the MFC has had all the draft picks over the past 6 years and stuffed them up, we may as well have draft sanctions on us. We have more concerns like keeping good players, if we can't improve good players will continue to walk out of our club and we will be stuck at the foot end of the table for many years to come.

It would be interesting to know how many posters on this site actual attend matches on a regular basis, more importantly over the past 6-8 weeks. I'm lucky to sit on the second teir at the MCG and on the weekend, this enables you to see certain things that you can't see at ground level. One thing Toumpas does is run to the right spots, same as Watts same as Sylvia, we just don't have the courage to hit them, these three players run to damaging positions, our players are scared to kick there because if they miss the target the turnover will kill us, but the reward if they do it is we will most likely score. Jimmy runs to where we should be kicking the footy, the problem is our players have been coached over the past 18mths to not take risks use the boundary line, don't come up the middle out of defense, switch at all costs, everytime we got the footy in our defensive 50m arc we look across for the switch we are predictable, North just left players out there and we kicked it to them. Dunn and McDonald stare at the switch they don't do it fast it is slow. I have no concerns that this bloke will be a gun and a lot sooner than we expect, next year with the right coach we will show us what he can do.

Don't forget Taggart was dropped to the Casey 2nds a couple of weeks back, his form over the past 2 weeks has been OK but would like to see a couple more good games before he gets a crack. Agree with Davey, but we need to give him some credit he has been playing good footy for the past month.
-
The worse thing is some of our players have been accused of using the same Medication. I think instead of peptides we had laxitives.

Add midfielders and running Defenders, get rid of small forwards that can't run through the midfield Clisby Frawley Garland Strauss McDonald Terlich Toumpas Jones Grimes Howe Watts Dunn Byrnes Dawes Fitzpatrick Gawn Sylvia Viney M Jones, Trengove, Davey, Nicholson In Garland Terlich Strauss Nicholson Out Kent Blease Tapscott Pederson Move Dunn forward as that defensive forward, that can also run in the midfield, get the balance right down back, Terlich and Strauss add that run and carry whilst McDonald/Garland/Frawley hold down the key posts. We need to get the balance right, last week we played 5 small forwards with only one of these capable of spending time in the middle. Davey stays in because last week was bad but he has been OK prior to that. Nicho comes in, lets face it most our team can't hit targets but at least he takes the game on and unlike Blease he can actually get the footy.

They will have short term issues, their players will face minimal sanctions if any, tops will be three months. They have sponsers lining up, it is like Damian Oliver everyone is off him for now once he starts riding winners again all will be forgiven. Same as Essendon, they will cop any whack that is handed to them and once 2014 starts and they are winning what has happened this year will be forgotten. The same can be said about the MFC, you win and the past issues are put behind you fairly quickly, when you have a period of utter garbage everything bites you. The difference is Essendon have a club capable of recovering quickly both off field and on, they have the potential to win a flag in 2014, we are a mile off this, at the moment we are all about individuals both on and off field we have to rebuild a club, Essendon will just need to weather a storm.

Who is in a bigger crisis and which club will come out the other side better Club A Has over 55,000 Members Average home game attendance will be approx 45K Currently sitting on 13 wins for the season Very good playing list capable of winning a flag in 2014 Chairman Resigns and most likely will be replaced by a very powerful businessman CEO Resigned Still looking Law Suits pending from former Fitness Manager Coach under enormous pressure Can't win the flag and may get stripped if all Premiership points Players may be suspended for using performance enhancing drugs Club B Has just over 32,000 Members Average home game attendance will be approx 20K Won 2 games for the year Coach has been sacked Average losing margin above 10 goals CEO has been sacked and replaced by an AFL person List Manager sacked Pending Law Suit from former club Doctor President Resigned still no stand out replacement Half the board resigns, basically they have no board Need money from the AFL to survive Playing list in an extremely bad shape with no midfield Captian and other players also under investigation for performance enhancing drugs No matter what happens to Essendon over the next few weeks they will get through this and move on very quickly. On the other hand the MFC crisis could be terminal.

I couldn't believe our players refused to take the game on, we had our chances to run up the middle but we stop look side ways handpass to players standing still or even worse kick sideways and miss targets. We only have 2-3 players that can hit targets and those players don't get the footy enough. We played 5 small forwards yesterday and 4 never touched the footy and can't run through the midfield, this is a big issue we need more players that can run through our midfield. Magner, nicholson need to come in for Kent and tapscott, Blease and davey stay in because we have no one else we need to play more players that can run through our midfield. Yesterday was bad we have to many dumb robots playing for us over the past 2 years we have confused these players to the point they have forgotten how to play football. We have drilled them so much they can not remember how to be the good instinctive footballers that we drafted.

There will be over 20,000 there today it may even be more if north members get this game as a substitute match for there tassie games. We can win today we need to get the ball onto our forward 50 there backline is no good

Aaron Davey has been good this year and is still our best small forward, I'm hoping he continues his form and gets another year. When looking at our potential forward line it is exciting and the need for a small forward isn't a problem. You need to take into account Clark, Hogan, Watts, Fitzpatrick and Howe are quick good at ground level and mobile. The only old school forward we have is Dawes. What I think will happen next year is the same as a few posters, we will rotate midfielders through our forward line and you will see Watts and Howe spend time in the midfield, plus the resting ruckman. Sylvia, Toumpas, Blease, Evans, Kent, Viney, Jones, Trengove will al have longer periods up forward. I still get excited by a forward structure Davey Dawes Clark Watts Fitzpatick Hogan With Howe and Watts rotating Half forward/Wing

Out: Toumpas, needs a rest he looked distressed when he came off, and Garland if he can't get up In: pederson, Magner

Melbourne has moved on from Roos
drdrake replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Granted I have allowed for some positive development of a few players but I believe that the below team can be competitive in 2014 Clisby Frawley Garland Terlich McDonald Grimes Trengove Sylvia Blease Watts Clark Howe Davey Dawes Hogan Gawn Jones Viney Fitzpatrick/Jamar, Kent, Toumpas, Byrnes
