Tom McDonald needs to take a good hard look at himself.
drdrake replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I find him more frustrating than Jack Watts. The only difference between Tom and Jack is the pick we used to draft them. Tom is always beaten one on one, can't spoil and is only good as that third man up marking defender. I will bet you that every team in the AFL plan to get the football in Tom's hands. They will sit in team meetings and plan out their forward defence, first would be cover Salem and Vince don't let them get the footy as they will damage you by foot. Next will be don't worry about Tom McDonald getting the football if we are leaving an out happy for it to be Tom as he is the most likely to turn over or make the wrong decision that will allow us to apply maximum pressure. Next would be to put a body up against him in the contest, he is easy to shift in flight and you can move him in a contest. Isolate him deep get him wrestling. If I was Brisbane, I would play Merrett on Tom McDonald, he is the type of player that will towel up McDonald -
Jack's biggest issue is his team mates. My wife never comes to the footy with me and she commented on how many times Jack was the best option but we went back wards side ways and all of the sudden he is a mile out of position. Jack is Jack, a very good lead up option, he will only every be as good as the ball coming in. Unfortunately Watts can't kick to Watts. Why isn't there a Tom McDonald is a spud thread. Most unaccountable, inconsistent over rated player we have

Holding the ball / prior opportunity / incorrect disposal
drdrake replied to Bluey's Dad's topic in Melbourne Demons
The unwritten law knocked out in a tackle. I have been banging on about this for years, I call it the Sam Mitchell drop. Hawthorn are masters at this and the Bulldogs have learnt the same, get tackled and drop it to your teams advantage. Watch the Bulldogs they had release players at the back of every contest, they drop it to the back, Hawthorn do the exact same thing. It should be you get tackled you need to dispose correctly. The other thing we get tackled and we try to release hang on to it 95% it will be a ball up. We release and it opens us up -
I will stand up for Watts, he isnt about contested footy he leads up. Fealt for him today, he worked harc to get into the right spots to be ignored. Watts puts himself into dangerous spots, high risk spots but high reward, a lot of the side are to slow to hit him or to safe

I cant believe people are accepted of today, outside around the contest, we wouldnt run to defend. We have massive issues getting opened up out the back and that is the work rate to run back so often it was Jetta and Hunt cover 4 to 5 Dogs players working hard forward. Our other defenders and mids were jogging through the middle. Jones was bad today
-
Garbage, we were lazy one way footballers. It reminds me of the Dean Bailey era again, when it goes our way we look unbeatable as soon as it gets hard we dont work. The bulldogs would have had 6 to 8 goals kick inside the goal square getting us out the back. That is lazy running we didnt run to defend. Tom McDonald needs to have a good hard look at himself, he was woeful he is number 1 on the lazy list or we need to accept he isnt a smart footballer and needs a job rather than zone.

Did Fremantle on trade first round pick for 2016 last year? Sorry to read a player goes home mid week for a surf with his brother, he is gone if Fremantle have pick 1 this year you trade him this year if he doesn't sign by trade week. Rapt if he stays but if we think he is going we need to maximise our return, Pick 1 and 2017 first round pick sounds about right, maybe a swap of a couple of picks their second round for ours.

10 teams a year don't play finals football, for a club like us you get to play 14 odd games against those sides, you win them you play finals. we have a top 8 side win in the bank against GWS that covers Essendon loss, we need another this week to cover St Kilda loss. We then have 8 matches against teams out side the 8. We beat the sides below us we play finals. That is the way the fixture is designed, we need to take advantage of this.

I thought he had another year to go
-
We will win because they will struggle to defend the MCG. You look even through our darkest periods from 2007 the only side we were competitive with everytime we played at the MCG was the Bulldogs. We can defend the MCG and open them right up.

I think we have filled a number of holes over the past three years. As most have stated Forward/Second Ruck is a massive hole. Good decision makers we have Salem, Watts and then a big gap
-
In answer no they aren't. Fremantle are cashed up and will be able to lure the best Western Australia kids back from East coast. Melbourne will not be able to match the offer Fremantle will put to Hogan and it's not just the Footy stuff, the amount off money he will make from third party deals will be massive, a little media deal here, a coupe of appearance deals. They will have massive room in their salary cap once they clean out some older Stalwarts at the end of the year. The tall forward from GWS will be on a Fremantle training program at this very moment. Fremantle we raid clubs, you watch the amount of home sick kids that will go home over the next 1-5 years. Money induced home sickness

I'm the Opposite, I think Pedo is a better mark and forward option. On the Weed he is our key forward security, I don't think one off Watts or Hogan will be with us by 2018.

We just don't seem to have our balance right. We are to short down back and to tall up forward and this stems from the lack of a second ruck forward, we are playing two guys to fill one role . We are asking H to attack and also play as a third tall defender, we are basically playing H, Salem, Wagner, Hunt and Jetta plus two tall McDonald and Dunn, add in Vince that gets back there as well. You need to get O Mcdonald in or push Frost back, he isn't a forward but running out of the defensive 50 he would be valuable. McDonald is playing that zoning third man up role, he really doesn't get a man. Dunn and Jetta seem to be our only lock down defenders. I like our forward set up of Garlett, Hogan, Pederson, Kent, Watts and Petracca, that forward 6 can kick you enough goals. Just seems we have to many players in to play the same roll

In Trengove and Oliver Out Kennedy and Frost

Where does Chris Dawes fit in all this?

I laugh about he can't ruck comments, neither can Pederson or Frost. -

Was thinking about this the other night. I still think he has a spot as that second tall back up ruckman. He is a better forward than Pederson and Frost, and I think once fit 4 weeks at Casey you will find he comes in for the back half of the season, which is great to have a big strong forward that will be fresh and wanting to prove a point for the run home. -

Just got the email this week from the club for 70% off from New Balance. I certainly have saved more than my membership cost with a couple of pairs of shoes and a new pair of Footy boots. -
Not many have, but he did the right thing in coming out today to really apologize and say it's not on and it isn't.

38,685, that is my final figure guess -
It takes a man of character to do what he did and face the media today. Respect that, he also related it to a massive issue in society the coward punch and took responsibility. It is totally against the way he plays the game, he was the only defender that stopped us kicking 25 to 30 goals goals on Sunday. People that bag him on here need to look at their own perfect life with no mistakes, he made one copped his whack both on the field and off. Respect to him

I think JT will be an emergency for Saturday night. I still think the Role Brayshaw is playing at the moment is best suited to Petracca. I thought JT would get back in before Petracca but seeing the inside mids we have playing well at the moment and really there are 2 roles up for grab 6th Forward and back up ruck forward, although Pederson and Frost are doing Ok be great if we had one player that was a combination of both.

What a great position to be in. On VFL form we have Petracca, Trengove, ANB and Grimes, yes Grimes he has been good for Casey this year keeping the pressure on the AFL side. Add in Oliver and when fit O MacDonald and Dawes, plus Stretch and White, 9 blokes that can slot into our side when needed with a couple more developing at Casey for 2017. Next week is a tuff call Brayshaw looks out of sorts, the role he is playing more a forward with a little midfield, seems to question his running capacity through the middle as he is a pure midfielder. If we want to bring in a midfielder Oliver comes straight back in for Brayshaw, if you want the forward that can run through the midfield Petracca comes in. I reckon it will be Petracca for Brayshaw.

I'm involved with Auskick and Junior Footy, I wonder if these membership numbers include the free memberships. North have just did the schools in my area offering kids free 3 game memberships, they have just sent out to all Auskickers offering the same. -
Great to get the win, but really, don't get ahead of ourselves. Some of the turnovers were horrific and until we get these out of our game we will continue to be hit and miss. Frost is like a 3 year old Colt, might need to be gelded to get that consistency. The open goal that should have been in the last minute of the 3rd, what a goal it would have been he just got a little bit excited. Happy with the win, need to improve for next week.
