Jon Ralph's big early predictions for 2022
drdrake replied to FlashInThePan's topic in Melbourne Demons
To me 2022 is looking like one of the most even years of the competition, if you are off your game even a little you will get beaten. Something about Port, I just see them as sliding down the ladder next season. The 2 teams in the West will be interesting Fremantle are building a pretty good list and WCE have 1-2 years left before really falling off the cliff, similar to Geelong. I think top 4 will be Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Dogs not sure the order Then Port, Geelong, Essendon, Carlton, WCE, Freo, GWS, Richmond, St Kilda fighting it out for the last 4 spots in the final 8. Hawthorn will get the wooden spoon -
It was a throw away comment, Claremont is the top end of town club in WA silver spoon club nothing against the kid a lot of good players come from Claremont. Good players at MFC come from South of the River(again tongue in cheek) Jackson, Rivers, Farmer, Woey, Jakovich, Alan Johnson, Spalding, Darren Bennett all from the South.
-
The only thing I don't like about this player is he is from Claremont, front running soft private school boys. Give me a south of the river player any day but the north of the river boy always questionable.
-
From memory both these players came onto our list as Cat B rookies, basketballers that we got because they hadn't played Footy for a few years. I love the Father Son rule, nothing better than seeing a former players kid pull on the same jumper

EVERY ANGLE: New look at Dees' flag-winning burst
drdrake replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep, almost came off his shin. Outside Fritsch first goal the others all went straight through the middle of the goals, even Petracca's dribble kick right through the middle. -
It looks like they have banned trades from Lunch time today.
-
It really depends on what the clubs position is, do we take a tall be it a ruck or KPF knowing that we can allow them to develop at Casey for the next 3+ years. I think we need to add that young developing tall that we can spend time to get them right. One thing the club might not do is draft an interstate player with an early pick, our list is young if you aren't getting a game the go home factor becomes massive.
-
That is the issue with Pre-season Draft, bottom teams can hold you to ransom, you either take that pick or get nothing for him
-
This is why I think Toby Conway is a real possibility for Pick 17.
-
I think he has always been borderline late pick or rookie pick, I don't think that will change.
-
There is a pretty long list but to be fair at the time the players had to improve and step up. My main criticism has always been based around poor kicking skills and selfish football. To the teams credit our foot skills improved and we became all about team footy. I do though apologise to James Harmes, after his second turn over in a couple of minutes at the start of the third quarter I had him done, credit to him his kick to Fritsch that started our run was amazing.
-
You can't see GWS paying the entire amount if the trade happens
-
Makes a bit of sense why Freo is entertaining trading Lobb to GWS. He is taking up a could chunk of Salary cap room, off load him and add O'Meara. They will get Clark deal done with pick 22, Pick 8 would get the O'Meara deal done maybe with a Hawthorn Pick.
-
I doubt Hore will be offered a contract, we have J Smith/Turner/Tomlinson as tall defenders, plus M Brown/Daw can both go back as well. I can't see Declase being retained which is a bit of a shame, I think with more VFL games he may have kept his spot. Still think we should offer pick 49 for Brander, leave 57 for Woey Jnr. Out: Jones, Jetta, AVB, Lockhart, Hore, Declase plus Bradtke Cat B In: Dunstan, Brander, Pick 17, Pick 37, Woey I'm assuming that leaves 1 more player we can pick up either in Rookie draft or pre-season/mid-season draft. Pick 17 for Conway(Developing Ruck) Pick 37 Best available Gives us 2 mids, Tall Forward, Ruck and another players from Trade/Draft period
-
You would have thought that if Hore and Declase were to be offered contracts they would have been announced along with the others today.
-
I think you are over stating the amount of effort MFC put into Andrew or any club has put into their NGA. It started off 3-4 years ago with all clubs going hard but the soon realised that reward V Effort and Cost it was just not worth it. Most clubs now hold try outs sign up players and maybe host a handful of sessions if that. Sydney/GWS/Brisbane/GCS are different they get priority access to any player in the academies, they actually spend a lot of time developing kids. Have a look at the back ground of players these clubs have picked up from their academies not to many with would meet the criteria for the other clubs.
-
Yep, they are basically trading Brodie and P19 for Future picks that will be 25-30 and 60+.
-
You would expect 19 to go to Geelong for Clark and a pick maybe 41.
-
OK he might be a depth player but we are in a massive premiership window that we need to plan to extend for as long as we can, adding a 22yo Tall Forward that can swing into the backline or even into the midfield. Think Tomlinson but younger and moves better.
-
Still think Brander from WCE would be handy for us. You will get him cheap, that pick 49 we just picked up would do it. I see him as a tall forward option, hasn't really had a chance to play that role at WCE.

2021 NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS 2021
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Someone like Toby Conway should be around that pick 19, a developing Tall Ruck that we can take our time to develop. -
We did the same to the Bulldogs the first time we played them. We got aggressive with our taps hitting forward and push the dogs under the ball. It helps that the 2 rucks we have can also win the ground ball in the middle. The dogs just didn't adjust their sweeper left the front open and we took them to the cleaners.
-
What else you going to do in lockdown. AFL players are the lucky ones to be able to still do what they love doing. Petracca would be like a caged Lion locked up at home.
-
It will be interesting to see what clubs strategies are in tis years trade and Draft period. You are taking the punt on a lot of young players that haven't played a lot for 2 years, not only the lack of games but also the training. Appreciate most will be doing programs but the lack of games and team training will really hinder their development. You are basically picking up kids on their U16 form and limited games this year

2021 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
drdrake replied to TRIGON's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can see us moving up in the draft, something like Pick 33 and Future second round for GCS Pick 19 and Future 3rd.
