Sorry, I meant 2019....but with a list of 45 we had 19 injuries. 35 - 19 = 16 players available. Or if we do it by percentages 45% of list missing. With 35 on the list we would have had 19-20 available.

If the list were reduced to 35, we would not have been able to put 22 players on the park in 2018. And no ability to develop young players by keeping them at lower levels for a couple of years. Players on the list only account for about 20-25% of club costs. Just another "thought bubble" out of AFL headquarters....

If the peak is in 2-3 months, then we will be in the same position in 4-6 months as we are today in terms of infections, and we aren't playing any sport now. There won't be any football this year.

It is really pleasing to see that people are STILL buying memberships to support the club. Since last Saturday 317 people have effectively made a "donation" to the club, to keep it alive. Total as of today: 37,888

Perkins virtually won the game for the Demons. When we were still 2 goals down, she was the one rucking and burrowing in and tackling to keep the ball in the forward line, while unfortunately, others stood around and watched. Birch was the saviour in the backline, and I really fear what a high scoring side like Freo will do to us, with McEvoy and Goldrick not around to help her out. There were a couple of GWS goals that simply would not have happened should Goldrick in particular have been playing.

Dogs were just awful. Bontempelli completely taken out of the game by Adams. Johannisen unsighted all night. Macrea not much better. If Wood and Keath weren't there to hold the defense together, it would have been even worse as a result. Bruce is overweight, and why they recruited him with Naughton, Lloyd and Schache there already is hard to understand.

But it means the CLUB does not have to put its own operational ( week to week ) money into that project. It can retain that to keep the club running.

There is no-one better off using the H-S methodology. Would playing Brisbane last year be seen as easier, because they finished near the bottom the previous year? Tell that to the teams that lost to them. Same this year. In the Marsh series, GC, St.Kilda, Melbourne and Fremantle filled 4 of the top 5 positions. Yes I know it is only 3 games, but all of those teams are not going to be bunnies in 2020. The real analysis should be WHERE you play the other sides in the overall picture. You only play each other once. Would you prefer to play Port in Adelaide or the MCG? WCE in Perth or in Victoria? Geelong in sleepy hollow or the MCG?

O'Dea is probably playing injured, because we have no other players available, but you are right about the other 2. And these are 2 of our forwards...no surprise we can't kick goals. The loss of Goldrick was also critical as she repelled attack after attack on her own. Stinear finally moved Cunningham up the field in the final quarter, but she still barely got a touch. Perkins at least has a go when needed, but I suspect oppositions have worked out Cunningham in the same way they have worked out Harris ( Carlton). Deny the space or put on body pressure, and they are lost. I also can't see Stinear lasting if this continues. His game plan is based around possession, but with the lack of skill of a lot of players ( across all teams) it inevitably means a mistake will be made, which is where most of Carltons score came from. If you had a team composed solely of the likes of Paxman, Daisy, Zanker then you could utilise this plan, but it doesn't work with the current crop. Thank goodness for Paxman and Zanker, who are able to kick the ball long into the forward line. The ball is rarely marked and spills free. It creates our opportunities. We just don't have anyone that can capitalise.

There is only one solution, and that was given by Sue above.... No spectators for the forseeable future. Players have as much chance of catching it down the street as from each other, so stopping games is completely pointless from a perspective of transmission. The other consideration is that the TV obligations have to be met......solution: play the games. ( It also keeps the fans happier) There is NO point delaying the season. This virus will get worse in Australia when winter comes, just like it has in the Northern Hemisphere. And as Sue has said, no-one knows how long it will go on for ( probably until sufficient immunity has built up in the community, just like every previous epidemic..)

The precipice stands right in front of the Hawks ATM. Burgoyne unsighted, McEvoy ( 1st game back from injury), no impact. Patten grossly unfit, was completely shot by quarter time. Scully run off his feet firstly by Langdon, then Tomlinson. Smith forced to play on Langdon and then did nothing during the game. Puopolo should be retired as he had as much impact as McEvoy. No forward line apart from Patten.......... Common factor....30ish years of age! Oh how wonderful this is.....Now for Geelong!

Trouble is there is nothing new in this. It was what Pert said at the AGM......, it was what was said last year at the AGM,..... and some variant from the Boards for the past 30 years.

They also lost their best mid in Stevens, and a promising kid in Acres.....but they have added 6 players who WILL fill the gaping holes in their list. It will work for a while.

Paxman has to be played in the centre at all possible times. Collingwood got their 2 goals in the 2nd quarter when she wasn't there. Put her back in and the rot stopped. Cunningham and Newman really need to lift their games. Both playing well below what they showed last year. Newman in particular has to be told to kick the ball and not try to break through tackles. She may have the speed but doesn't have the strength.

If Rhys Shaw thinks he can win games playing that plan , he will be fast going the same way as his predecessor!
