could be a good buy if he has heard North will have to move and the ground becomes a park...? -
Absolute piece of rubbish from Wilson. Essendon stay at Windy Hill and all their mis-demeanours would never have occurred? Move from a sub-standard training facility to probably the best in the league and that caused them to stray to the dark side?

No premierships for Nafan. Should have stayed with the Bears.

Kreuzer would have left a sizable hole in Carltons salary cap.

Agree. Just because someone played football doesn't make them qualified, even on a football club board. Have a look at other clubs As an example, West coast have none and others that do are because the individual brings more than football experience e.g. Andrew Leoncelli in the past.

If Fantasia, Daniher and Saad go, then with compensation picks and traded picks , you can guarantee that our first pick (23) has dropped further. This is exactly why we traded out of this draft to get Pickett last year.

Great selections all round. One can't judge too much from highlights reels, but the new bunch of girls are a much stronger than before. Greizer and Patrikios set the new standard last year, and it is good to see a couple of similar players selected. The other thing is kicking. I suppose more strength gives more kicking power, but once again a couple of those rookies can kick much further than what we have seen in the past. Really like the way Mietta Kendall plays. Hope to see her breaking open packs in the coming year.

Great podcast and should be a staple instruction on how to run a football club. He managed to extract both Essendon and Melbourne from the pile of excrement that both found themselves in. His message was was to get the right people in, get the finances in order to match your income and set achievable plans for the future. It was interesting that he noted that you have to get the TRUST of the members back, by actions. That trust is easily lost, but you have to work hard to get it back. When they see results, then they return.

This was for 2019: https://www.aflonline.com.au/afl-news/what-is-the-average-salary-of-an-afl-player/ "The average salary of an AFL player currently sits at a comfortable $362,471 annually, with Sydney Swans superstar Lance Franklin understood to be the highest paid player pulling in around $1.3 million per year". Simply divide the salary cap by the number of players on the list.

Is there more to this given he is being taken to court? "It is also a new offence to fail to comply with any of the emergency management Directions issued by the WA Government in relation to COVID-19, including Directions about self-isolation, community gatherings, community activities and travel. The maximum penalty if you are deal with by a court is 12 months imprisonment and a fine of $50,000. However, police may instead issue you with an infringement notice to pay $1,000." and: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-29/wa-coronavirus-restrictions-police-to-enforce-on-the-spot-fines/12100534

Life in Australia - Melbourne 1966
george_on_the_outer replied to maximum bob's topic in Melbourne Demons
Found the answer to my own question: it is the 1964 GF. I was confused by the lack of streamers/paper on the ground in the colour version , but the Hassa Mann goal is at the 5.20 min mark in this clip: Incidentally, I haven't seen this version previously, and was only posted in July 2019. I think it is the longest version of the highlights, but misses the final siren after the Crompton goal. -

Can anybody put a date to the Melbourne v Collingwood game? It obviously isn't 1966 when the film was made, as Barassi, Lord, Adams are playing...so that places it perhaps in 1964? It doesn't look like the grandfinal to me.... -

....after 6pm. No pubs open. No restaurants. No late night trading after 6pm. No reason for anyone to be in the city...( same as today!). Note the traffic lights on flash. There was no traffic so they switched to that mode, all you had to do was travel slowly and give way. -
From 45:35 to the finish. Tells of her experiences with the Dublin draft combine, the importance of Sinead Goldrick and Niamh McEvoy toward getting her to Melbourne, and the preparation she is making prior to coming over https://player.whooshkaa.com/episode?id=736253 https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/798330/dees-welcome-third-aflw-irish-star

In 2020 we had 4 players in Langdon, Tomlinson, Pickett and Jackson come into what was essentially a fully fit side for the year. That simply tells us that ( injuries aside) the 2018/9 sides had too many ordinary, fringe, below par players being selected. That two 18 year olds could walk into the side, no matter how talented they are and then hold their spots was more damning. If we want improvement in 2021, we are not addressing the fundamental problem, by seeking improvement from the likes of Oliver, Trac, May, Gawn etc. They are already good with only marginal improvement possible. Even if it happens it won't help the team as much as the improvement required across the board. We simply have to stop being forced to select that group of players who have been around 4,5,6 and longer years, and are still being dropped from the side due to poor performances. ( There are a couple of others who weren't being dropped as well). To put it simply we need talent where currently there is little. And we need it now! There is no point waiting. Gawn is 28. Viney 26 Petracca 24 Lever 24. How many more years are we going to wait, and risking that talented group leaving for greener pastures? The draft this year will be unlikely to produce anything to solve our problems due to NGA picks and what is looking like a raft of compensation picks following FA. This is the year we need to trade heavily to bring in players who can kick and have the talent to stay in the side all year long, replacing those fringe players we currently see week in and week out.

Mihocek is the one that is gettable. Out of contract, and the Pies have salary cap problems trying to keep DeGoey, Moore and Daicos in the side. -
Wow! Dropping Daw when Goldstein is already 32 y.o.! Anyone know a team who might have a backup ruck available?

AFLW Off Season News / 2021 Preseason
george_on_the_outer replied to Dees_In_October's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
The Casey facility could be very valuable in terms of preparation for the AFLW side in the Covid era This article outlines the possible hub situation: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/aflw-players-asked-if-they-are-open-to-hubs-20200915-p55vtr.html More importantly is the following from the article ..."But there remain issues, including the sharing of club facilities between male and female players, which was barred by clubs in March as the situation escalated" WIth the Casey development, Melbourne don't have that problem. -

Not now, she used to when Demetriou was around. Just makes things up...."my sources tell me" type of stuff. Same with this.
