Articulate, deserving, modest, brilliant and talented. Well, that's enough about me. Now onto last night's winner.

Looking forward to see what scrag Edelsten brings tonight. Looking forward to seeing a backman win. Looking forward to lots of awkward interviews mid count with players Looking forward to lots of meaningless stats being regurgitated throughout the broadcast Really, really looking forward to the red carpet telecast too.

Let's be honest. The whole MCG thing hasn't been working for us over the past 5 decades, therefore.... All home games in Darwin. Let's really embrace the Territory. All away games at Etihad. Let's really embrace Docklands.

Logical and strategic decisions, as made by football clubs, can be mutually exclusive. Seem to remember one club sacking the CEO but ended up sacking the coach the following day instead.

Open Letter To The Melbourne Football Club
Spirit of 26 replied to inanunda's topic in Melbourne Demons
Everyone can have input into giving feedback to the club by participating in their member engagement surveys. I was pretty savage in one done a couple of years ago and the club rang me directly to discuss my concerns. So they do listen. -

Last round - Melb needed to beat Collingwood at Victoria Park. Collingwood won the wooden spoon that year so were pretty hopeless, but it was still a danger game for the Dees. To get into the 5, we needed to win and for Carlton to beat Footscray - which was on the cards as Carlton was the far better team. Dees won, but Carlton ended up drawing with Footscray. So the Doggies got 2 unexpected points which kept them in - and us out of the 5 and finals. Fun Fact 1. Was a at a club function not so long after and Stephen Smith said it was a real disappointment as there was a real belief in the playing group that they would have given the finals that year a real shake. Fun Fact 2. Was at the game and was belted by an old bag of a Collingwood supporter with her umbrella for abusing Collinwood players all and sundry. Great win but very sad outcome.

Reckon Jacko was on the money on two points. 1. Sheehan was a sycophant of the AFL/VFL when chief football writer at the Sun. Just look up his articles during the MFC/HFC merger. Straight from AFL headquarters. 2. Football is now played by athletes who are trained to play football. Skilled footballers who don't meet the strict criteria as determined from the development/feeder programs are being discriminated against. George Bisset, Paul Callery, Mick Nolan et al would never make it today.

Fondest Melbourne Demons memory
Spirit of 26 replied to The Sailing Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was the Hardeman mark at the 'G vs Richmond? I remember him taking an absolute speccy where he seemed to hover over the pack what seemed like minutes (seconds probably). One of the best I've seen. -

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is. Having a diamond defence or whatever, will only work if its executed correctly. If the playing group is unable to carry it out, why have it? Sometimes we play as if our ego is writing checks that our body can't cash.

You've been made coach of a new start up team playing in today,s competition. Your brief is to win from day one. Stuff any future development. Who would be your first 5 selections? Would/could they be classified as "elite". For the sake of the exercise I'd select: Dangerfield, Selwood, Franklin (all elIte) Gawn and Kennedy from WC (not elite)
