  1. Seeking to trade Howe is completely retarded IMO. He offers much more than a human highlight reel. I reckon the old/new MFC coaches get that though. And, relevantly, he's the only second round draft pick that we've nailed in a very long time.
  2. Totally agree. To be honest, I am still absolutely stunned that we landed Roos. I had thought Williams would've been the best available from the next tier down.
  3. You're right P Man. I'm a bit embarrassed about that. Took me a while to figure that bloke out. Too long in fact. I think I'm on the money this time though, even if I initiated this thread after far too many birthday drinks ( ... scotch by the way).
  4. Apologies - I know there's a Paul Roos for coach thread already, but, having just watched OTC tonight, and having observed the slander directed towards him by Richard Colless and others at the Swans tonight, I felt angry. Paul Roos is our man now. He's no longer our potential coach. He's now our leader. Get behind him. I love the man.
  5. No way. That we should've picked Rockliff instead is not worthy of debate.
  6. Regard it as unlikely that we'll land Sloane, Selwood or Rockcliff with pick 2. Unless it's to be used for Swallow or Adams, it would seem we should use pick 2 on a kid. Perhaps Roos might be able to land a few good recycled hard bodies with our lower picks. As an aside, we absolutely MUST land Cross as a free agent. And re-sign Sylvia.
  7. Just heard him interviewed on Fox at the Brownlow. Seemed very committed to the Crows. Pity really - would love to see him in the red and the blue.
  8. In fairness though, pick 2 is a massive pick.
  9. That we should've picked Sloane with pick 35 is not worthy of debate. However, I always liked Bennell. IMO has the potential to be a Danyle Pearce/Burgoyne type. Has class. Always needed a few years to develop intensity and hardness. If he manages to do so, he will be a very good player. Would've kept him.
  10. Sloane in the red and the blue next year. Roos loves him.
  11. Interesting. Of all the players we let go last year, Bennell's probably been the one I've been most nervous about. He has class. And pace. He could've been the type of half back flanker that Roos likes.
  12. This could be a one line post, simply asking the question - will we be spending part of our pre-season in the Northern Territory this year? But I'll make it longer. Perhaps a very roundabout way to get to the initial question, but it started through thinking about the possibility that we might be re-drafting Jolly. Jolly was obviously a great ruckman, but to me he seemed spent at the end of this season. It got me thinking about the data on these players and that Roos would be all over this stuff. And so would the Pies. I then thought about the respective training regimes and the different approaches to pre season set ups. I seem to recall that the Pies would spend some of their pre season in Arizona each year, and they would also send some injured players there during the actual season for rehab. The Dees, however, chose to spend some of our pre season in the NT last year. I've no doubt some of this decision was based on financial constraints. The new regime though is committed to spending $$$ on the football department. It made me think - will Roos/new coaching staff recommit to the Northern Territory training camp this year, or will they be heading O/S. And, if Roos would like to go O/S, would such a decision interfere with our sponsorship arrangements with the NT? Thoughts?
  13. Would probably still take him in the PSD if available. However, it seems we should actively target others in the trade period (ie, Swallow and Adams).
  14. I was speaking to a mate yesterday who was a midfielder on the Bulldogs' list a couple of years ago. He totally endorsed Cross. In fact, he said Cross and Boyd were seen to be the benchmarks as to requisite approach to training/professionalism for all young players at the club. Thought he'd be a great pick up for us.
  15. old dee, I recall it being said. And, somewhat embarrassingly, I also recall thinking at the time - yep, just maybe ...
  16. I expect he's really going to enjoy preening his feathers in the VFA next year ...
  17. Swallow. Former pick 1. Good character. Could run through the side of a German pill box at Normandy.
  18. Prior to landing Roos = no chance at all. Post landing Roos = at the very least, he'll actually talk to us.
  19. Apologies if someone's already mentioned in this thread, but I seem to recall that the Swans stated they would take Dustin Martin at number one in 2009 PRIOR to that draft taking place (ie, ahead of $cully and Trengove). Reckon Roos will be into landing Martin big time.
  20. If the AFL is comfortable that we will on-trade the PP for an experienced player from another club (ie, assist us in the immediate midfield rebuild), and somehow a deal is also done which enables GWS to secure Boyd, we might be a sneaky chance to get the PP. Otherwise I reckon the better view is that we won't be getting one.
