Caroline Wilson's descent into gutter journalism
The Great Pretender replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
That might well be right but if we go down and the other seven or eight clubs involved in the same activity are not scrutinised for their activity then it would make those who control the game corrupt beyond description. -
It's called a fire sale and demonstrates how the MFC values the player's services.

2012 Player Review - # 27 Jared Rivers
The Great Pretender replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I suppose we'll know very soon if he's going to stay at the club but I will be disappointed if he goes to Geelong or anywhere else for that matter. -
Sweet dreams!

Would cost us far less than Farren Ray but there's no way one can predict at what selection he would be picked so how does one get him in the draft?
-
What effect on our compo has the fact that he recently shaved off that ridiculous moustache?

Followed up his round 1 performance with six goals this week. WJ, you could be onto something here!

Latest murmurings of a crazy time
The Great Pretender replied to Tolstoys Nudge's topic in Melbourne Demons
It takes two to tango. Remember, it was MFC that decided not to finalise contract negotiations with several of its players. If we get bitten on the bum as a result, we can't complain. -
2012 Player Review - # 24 Liam Jurrah
The Great Pretender replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Disappointed with how it turned out but still wish him luck with the court case. Can't see him changing his attitude to his football after its over if Port Adelaide does pick him up. -
There's a discussion on Bomber Blitz about Jordan Gysberts but it also contains a post about Kelvin Lawrence which, if true, I suppose sums up why he returned home before the end of the season:- "Not sure I mentioned it at the time but just to further show how woeful Melbourne are... Kelvin Lawrence who recently "walked away" from melb FC was hardly the case, he had his papers stamped mid year when ge called in sick for training only to check-in on Facebook 30min later with his girlfriend at Melbourne aquarium! Fair to say the coaches were not happy when they found out!"

The Rules of the Melbourne Football Club May1859

"Tripping and pushing are both allowed" ... good rule. Still applies with the Eagles when you play West Coast in Perth. -
Norwood makes SANFL Grand Final
The Great Pretender replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Another Demon connection is that Norwood's coach is Nathan Bassett who spent a season on our rookie list in 1997. He was actually elevated to the senior list and most likely would have played in the team but he suffered a broken sternum and returned home to Adelaide and was cleared to the Crows where he had a long career. He's considered a good football brain with AFL senior coaching potential. -
Simon Eishold remembers....
The Great Pretender replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just before ¾ time, when we were nearly 6 goals ahead, Sean Wight handballed out of defence and we had loose men ahead everywhere on the field. I momentarily thought we could nail the game there and then but the white maggot blew the whistle and penalised Wight for a throw. Hawthorn goaled from that and they were close enough to mount a comeback in the last quarter. This was the only part of the replay that I managed to get myself to watch and I thought it was a legitimate handball. I reckon nine times out of ten it would have been deemed legal but not by the maggots we got on that day. To make matters worse, a couple of years later we played Geelong in a final and it was an armwrestle in the first quarter. I saw a Garry Ablett (senior) throw go unpenalised and then a Geelong player ran across Greg Healey's mark and there was no penalty for that either. Such is life. -
Gerard is not a Demon. He defected to the Swans for big coin 27 years ago and I don't consider him one of us even if he does get invited to our B & F. It's probably a freebie as well and I would much rather the invitation wasn't extended. I hope the fat bloke's kid is still unwelcome in 2039.

Mike Sheahan said on last night's On The Couch that war is about to erupt between GWS and Richmond because of overtures made to a GWS youngster. He didn't name the player but he did say it was one of their top 10 picks from last year. The Giants have re-signed a number of their young early picks but this sort of thing is inevitable when you have the likes of Voldemort picking up a cool million a year and providing a substantial meal ticket for his old man at the same time. I hope all of the other clubs including us start circling GWS for their talent and I would be targeting Dom Tyson early in the piece.

In the now likely event that Liam Jurrah is exonerated in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court I wonder if he ends up playing for Casey at the weekend?

Liam Jurrah interview on Eddie Maguire 11/3/12
The Great Pretender replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just found this but it will help many understand:- Liam Jurrah’s biographer speaks on Yuendumu’s tragedy -
The forecast is mostly sunny, maximum 30 degrees. With our luck, someone will get injured in the first ten minutes and we'll be playing one short in the heat.

Thanks for painting such a wonderful picture of our Jimmy. Condolences to the family.
