Cook was All Australian CHF last year so it should not surprise that he is a player of quality. Before last night I expected that he would be kept in cotton wool for a year or two to allow him to grow physically into an AFL footballer's body. The schedule might be pushed forward a little in view of his game yesterday. Compared with PA's Butcher who was also a top notch young KPP, I think he's in front.

Too right!!! A players support system includes family and mates. The money's important of course but your mates are also important to you. Scully played Under 18 TAC Cup football for Vic Metro with Jack Watts, James Strauss, Sam Blease, Jordan Gysberts and Jack Fitzpatrick. Max Gawn was in the squad in Scully's second year at Under 18 level but missed out due to injury. These are his footballinng mates. Sam Blease played in Demon colours for the first time last night. He was a sub and came on and had one kick. This is what he said on Twitter today:- Money can't buy that sort of thing.

I disagree that the questions at the AGM "reeked of praise". There was the one about Bruce that I thought was critical of the club. Someone wanted to know about Scully and others were inquisitive about aspects of the club. A few others were congratulatory. I do agree that questioners at the St. Kilda AGM would have been asking tough questions because the place seems to be falling apart.

There are a lot of people who couldn't believe how dedicated Tom is to his football so why the surprise at people like us who are dedicated and passionate about our footy club?

Nick Sautner has been at Springvale, Sandringham, Frankston, Northern Bullants and Sandringham and with the appointment of Brett Lovett, he's apparently weighing up his options and might do a Bruce and hop off to Frankston. The guy played in five premierships with Sandy. He's won about nine Frosty Miller awards for top goalkicker but Lovett thinks his time has come.

Shaun Marsh has been having a good season. His performance yesterday must be the final nail in the selectors' coffin. Similarly, the unfortunate Hauritz who was bowling well till injured in the field.

Last paragraph of the article on Chip Frawley's injury by Jon Ralph in the Herald Sun -Melbourne defender James Frawley to miss up to three months with chest injury Demon fans, the sky's falling.

I was just wondering if anyone knew when and where MFC training starts for season 2011? Thanks in advance.

I have a good feeling about Robert Campbell being at the club. A solid citizen and a cool headed player in his late 20's is just what we need in the wake of the losses of our two most experienced players. In addition, he will fill a major void in the ruck as partner to the Russian. If he's fit enough to get through games as the second stringer in ruck combined with a big man role up forward he could be the coup of the 2011 season.

He was such a smooth mover across the ground. A real footballer. Condolences to the Rioli family.

It's all too often that we forget people like Troy as we go about our busy lives. Thanks Demonland for helping us to remember. RIP Troy Broadbridge.

THE ROOKIE DRAFT - FAIRYTALE OR FOLLY?
The Great Pretender replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, but what I think WJ is also saying is that the new look fined down Campbell might also be used in attack to help out our young forwards and change with the Russian when he needs a rest. Could work out well if he can stay fit. -
Not impressed. The fact that he produces a great amount of verbiage in describing players I'm not sure if he's describing them directly from his own observations. He seems to be drawing a lot on Kevin Sheehan's descriptions when he goes on about Lucas Cook and his reading of the ball in flight when going for his marks. I'm not sure if it matches the reality based on what I've seen of Cook whi is a good mark.

Is that the Demonland record for length of time for response to a question?

I'll just be hoping that he does the usual thing - handball or kick to the opposition.

A HISTORY OF THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB: PART TEN
The Great Pretender replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bloody good footballer - pity about the knees. -
It's been a big week for conspiracy theories with some mongrel from the Maritime Workers Union going on about 9/11 being an American plot against its own citizens so FWIW, here's my conspiracy theory. GWS will field a team of rookie listers, Israel Folau, hacks and pimply faced 17 year olds coached by a showman who is out of touch with the modern game. They will be decimated by both the Swans and the Suns by a large margin. Irrespective of the result of the Swans v Suns game, that should be enough to ensure that two clubs from this pool of three progress to the next round, one as winner of the pool and the other other as one of the two best performed runners up. In other words, the grouping virtually assures the Suns of some initial short term success in the AFL competition, which is exactly what the AFL wants.

We could do better with what we've got and with the young kid we might pick up in the draft with the pick he costs us.

A mate played in the Under 19s at Essendon against Garry Lyon and he tells me that he would have grown at least 10cm from when he came down to play for the MFC U19's to his final height. Used to play against him on a wing in those days.

If the AFL doesn't nominate him for this week's rising star there will be hell to pay!

The AFL site is one of the least user friendly sites on the web. Demetriou should spend a bit of time looking at some of the little things to do with his organisation and he might get some of the bigger picture items right too.
