Once upon a time there was this bloke called Travis ... and we didn't live happily ever after. Now this time, let's hope we got it right!

Watts sounds mature and sensible beyond his years. I hope the club looks after him and that we reap the rewards in the years to come. I'm pumped!

Pre season training invitees
The Great Pretender replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Several players have been named as leading contenders for the upcoming drafts - Sibosado, Rockliff (TAC Cup premiership player; 4 goals & 11 uncontested posessions v Vic Metro), Klemke, Sheahan, Riley, Allwright, Martin a few ruckmen and a handful of others from WA. -

Jeff Chapman - wealthy past player

I wonder if the MFC ever followed up on this man. He's worth squillions and we have no sponsor. He might be a welcome benefactor for the club. -

Seriously though, we have pick 1 in the PSD and pick 1 in the RD and all we've done is invite virtual unknowns and 2 blokes who played for Sandy who nobody else has shown any interest in. I wonder if we're going to maximise our return from having the benefit of first choice in the drafts? -

Melbourne announces key appointments
The Great Pretender replied to the fork's topic in Melbourne Demons
Let me give you another possibility: Luke Beveridge is appointed coach of Sandringham Dragons; Wayne Oswald applies to MFC for role as Development Officer; Luke Beverige quits and takes up a position at Collingwood; and With the departure of Beveridge and the appointment of a "rookie coach" in his stead, the powers that be at the AFL/VFL convince Oswald to return to the Dragons. In this scenario the MFC have nothing to do with his sudden and early departure. -
Not concerned really but I wonder what he does now? Does he nominate for the National Draft or the PSD? How does he get to Carlton if he wants to go there - especially with Fremantle having so many vacancies and sitting in front of Carlton in the draft picks.

Jack Watts - don't expect too much too soon

Saw the results of the APS sports in the Age today and I half expected to see J.Watts dominating the sprints and jumps but there was nothing there. Anyone know if he competed? -
The School yard Bully Strikes AGAIN !!

The screwing over was doubly distasteful because Demetriou led us to believe he approved of the Stynes-led board and would work with them to help the club out of it's difficulties. The help turned out to be more of a hinderance than anything else. -
We might be the Demons but we certainly don't need a player with a tail.

Melbourne was angry at rumours circulating yesterday that Aaron Davey was up for trade and Port Adelaide was a potential destination. "It's absolutely 100 per cent bulldust," Connolly said. - http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...3-19742,00.html Now where did that rumour come from?
-
If Brad Green is traded then perhaps Melbourne might be in a position to increase its offer to Warnock?

It's a simple formula really. You just mix up a fair bit of known information that has been aired in the media with a modicum of speculation and then you cover yourself by saying that only a small percentage of what you know will ever come to fruition and bob's your uncle. You sound authoritative and the mugs are going to believe you. It's the old Chiliboy system that got exposed a couple of years ago and that's why he never posts here under that name any more.

How ironic. Jeff White playing second fiddle in the ruck to Darren Jolly? Jeff White right fit for Swans Sounds right for them now that Peter Everitt has retired and it's typical of Paul Roos to squueze every ounce of ability and playing life out of a footballer. Good luck to Jeff as he's been a real stalwart for our club.

No more Sydney home finals: Demetriou by The Great Pretender at ANZ Stadium An angry AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou has lashed out at supporters of the Sydney Swans who stayed away from their team's Elimination Final clash at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night. He told reporters after the game in which the Swans overran North Melbourne with a stunning eight-goal blitz in the third term to set up a 17.8 (110) to 11.9 (75) victory that the attendance of 19,127 was simply "not acceptable for an AFL final" and that the AFL would not play a final in Sydney again after such a "pathetic response from the Sydney football public." "This was a crunch final for the home side and the fact that their supporters stayed away indicates they are not interested in finals football up here." Demetriou stopped short of agreeing that future Swans finals could be played at Carrara to pomote the new no name Gold Coast team but he did indicate that the AFL might do some more homework on the future West Sydney Football Club as a result of the poor attendance figure. He discounted claims that the typical Sydney weather of three days of sleet and driving rain had anything to do with the poor attendance. Demtrious was also angry at reports that North Melbourne had "tanked" their last three games to secure the coveted number 9 draft pick. - with AAAP

Good. Based on the pain we Melbourne supporters have been going through for the last two years, 2009 should be a year of major gain.

I can't wait to see Grimes line up in the AFL. Still a way off but if his hard work and dedication through recuperation from his back injury is any indication, the wait is going to be worth it.

All we can ask of someone who officiates at the highest level is for some consistency of interpretation. This was completely lacking form McLaren in the Melbourne v North Melbourne game. A better umpire would have been able to control this game a lot better. He should join Goldspink in the retirement village.

WJ's Match Preview - Fremantle v Melbourne
The Great Pretender replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wonder how fair dinkum the Dockers are about winning this one. The pressure in WA to get the best young talent from within the state must be enormous. Despite the media writing us off, I think we're a real show this week even if it is being played at Subi!
