  1. The next four games will do nothing for confidence next year. If you wanted to win you would play our best side. I would rather play the younger players and give them game time and maybe a couple of better players from the draft to join them next year. That would be worth more than a win which means absolutely nothing, like beating beating a tanking Carlton in the last round for example.
  2. Hayes and Neaves must be retained. Hughes i am not sure will make it and I don't think Warnock is at AFL standard and i would look to trade or delist him. Neville will be delisted. I would play all of the young guys in the last couple of games to give them experience. Winning is now irrelevant.
  3. I have got into this peach chutney lately and its great on the sandwiches. Back to the topic, this could all be for the last game. Uplift all rookies Bode, Neaves, Hayes and the injured Bode and play them with Weetra in the last game against Carlton. Sheedy could then coach Cochin next year in the red and blue, not to mention the player we get in the trade for our 2nd round priority pick.
  4. Say goodbye to any decent coach if you do this !
  5. Could it be any darker WJ ? Another interesting read as usual.
  6. Lets try and analyse the situation. Melbourne at full strength is a good side. Our list has depth as we have seen this year. Our younger players are now getting valuable game time. We will have at least one early pick in the draft this year and maybe three picks by pick eighteen. The players we will delist or trade this year are superfluous to our needs. Sheedy is 59 not 79. He appears relatively fit and alert. He has rat cunning. He is a winner. He is prepared to try different things to win. He would surely be able to coach for 3-4 years without any difficulty and who else would get a longer chance anyway. His marketability is unsurpassed. He will attract members and sponsors. His ego has been dented and he would be keen to stick it up the Bombers. He would have the pick of the best assistants who would assist with everything from conditioning to tactics etc. He could even train the best assistant to be our next coach thereby continuing the program. We would get rid of our current conditioning coach who has overseen the biggest injury list I can recall after the same thing happening at his previous club. We might even develop a kick in from points strategy that we don't have. He can communicate with all players and they seem to genuinely like him and perform. We can get rid of the bloody "premiership clock" which is a load of crap as we have seen with other teams. He can coach to win a flag while at the same time building up the list, they are not mutually exclusive. This does not mean to say that I believe he is the only one for the job but he could be our best choice.
  7. For all of those who attacked Paul Gardner over Neale's resignation, I am sure you will get stuck into the Essendon board. Their chairman said on MONDAY NIGHT, "we will not make any decision on the coach until the end of the season and we didn't even discuss it at the board meeting tonight." Oh yeah!!!.
  8. One thing Barassi had in common with Pagan, they both took over pathetic teams and then recruited poorly. Remember Cattogio and Young for Greg Wells and the over the hill Kelvin Templeton as examples.
  9. I see that Bode made the best players for Sandy this week. Maybe that is a watershed moment for his career.
  10. Have to agree Jaded. The only way for our club to move forward is to say goodbye to those that let you down are too old or can't dispose. My list Brown, Ward, Bizzell, Jamar, Pickett, Neville, Holland, Warnock and maybe Yze.
  11. He might. I would suggest a troublemaker is a player who has a history of causing trouble at his former club. If you would like some examples : Angwin, Norman, Fevola, Didak, Cousins, Farmer, Kerr, Lawrence, Everitt, Gehrig, Carey etc.
  12. Agree. I thought his handball in close was great for a first gamer.
  13. It is no surprise that Fremantle is struggling this year after adding a couple of troublemakers from other clubs. After last year they looked a real chance this season. I hope our club avoids the temptation to trade or draft any troublemakers. It is like bringing a virus into the rooms.
  14. I hope you are not serious with that comment. I think it needs a moment's reflection.
  15. I was very impressed with Buckley's disposal by hand in close. He was often in heavy traffic but set up several plays with a smart handball. This was in stark contrast to a game a few weeks ago at Sandy where he continually tried to beat the field and looked ordinary. He has height, speed, good vision and good disposal. He is a chance with improvement and confidence to become a regular.
  16. I think there are two types of premiership players. There are the ones that actually win you a flag because of the way they play and there are the others who were lucky enough to get in the side on the day. Every club has plenty of the second group. It is the first group that are the standard of what a real premiership player should be. Nevertheless all of them are called "premiership players".
  17. Can you please explain to me how he has gone back on his word? Was Daniher sacked or did he resign? What is wrong with having a review during the season and coming to a conclusion that can be implemented as soon as the season ends? Would you prefer to wait until the end of the season then have a review and then if the conclusion was to seek a new coach start looking for one in January? All clubs and businesses continually review performance throughout the year, to not do so would be negligent. What you are appearing to be suggesting is that as soon as the word "review" was mentioned Daniher was "sacked" and we all know that is not true. Neale chose to not seek another contract probably because he suspected his contract would not be renewed. The President has NOT broken his promise and to suggest otherwise is to distort the truth. PS. Thanks Neale for the effort you have put into the MFC and good luck in the future.
  18. Mrs. Redleg and I attended all Victorian games this year to round 9 and then left for overseas where we are now. Guess what 9 losses. As soon as we left two wins. Send money and we will stay away until the end of the footy season. We are thrilled with the wins and we are proudly wearing our Melbourne gear in Sweden. Go Dees.
  19. Correct. Its like not buying a shirt until it goes on sale when the season is nearly over. The difference here is the money goes to keep your club around. Also I think there were some freebies like scarves that may not still be on offer now anyway.
  20. Who was that old lady who barged through our off the field huddle at TBO yesterday ? Reminded me of Dermie.
  21. Fair enough. I saw both boys play yesterday and was impressed. Frawley for his first game back was methodical, safe, quick and effective. He has height, pace and reads the game. With natural improvement and body development he is a real chance to be a long term player. Newton is different. He is an excitement player. The huge leap. The pick up off the ground at full pace. The long bomb. The mercurial snap. The chase down from meters behind the ball carrier. This boy to me shows real talent. Could have kicked 7 instead of 2.5 yesterday. If things go alright for this kid with his talent and big body, which will get stronger, we could have our next key forward. Incidentally, Neaves is bigger and stronger than last year and is shaping as our next ruckman. He managed to get many possessions around the ground and with some improvement is also a chance to play for the Dees.
