Is there a phantom draft for tonight?

I admit to knowing nothing about this year’s draft potentials, but Ludowyke was a touted top 5 pick before injury. I don’t see a chance to get a big key forward ( he is 197 cms )top 5 pick type in the near future and to me this is a huge opportunity if the kid makes it. We could move Petty and maybe even AJ back, when Tom and May go next year and we could solve our key forward and key back areas with one selection. 2 first rounders next year will give us access to mids or whoever in a stronger draft. To me this is a huge opportunity. I would rather punt his type than another flanker. What do you guys who know more think?

Well I got the first one right.

As the Tigers have Smillie, Taranto, Hopper, Ralphsmith, Prestia and a few other mids who are mainly big bodied and slow, could they see Robey as being the same and look for the pacier mid. If that happened, could the Bombers take Sharp and Taylor and then Dovaston with their next pick, leaving Robey for us? I suppose it could, but it won't.

And there you have it.

Well if we are offering GCF1 2026 and 37 this year, to get into first round this year, then next year must be weaker than they are all saying, or we think we can get someone who will be a better selection than GCF1 next year. If this year is weaker, why wouldn't that offer be grabbed by another club?

Then I would be thrilled if we get him. I was hoping for Rivers the whole 2nd day of his draft. I remember where I was when he was drafted, standing outside a shop in Palm Cove, while my wife was inside spending. I yelled when we selected Trent and she ran out of the shop thinking something was wrong and when I explained I got told off, not unusually. If we draft another Rivers that would be great.

Still expect an announcement update at AGM.

Not that I know anything about this draft, but Cal is predicting Freo taking tall forward Schubert and with their 3 tall forwards, plus the 2 ruckmen who rest forward, that just seems highly unlikely.

Ricky Mentha seems to have bulked up a bit.

Anyone can nominate for the draft. It's probably a talking point among mates. Actually I might nominate next year. Then I can tell my grandkids I am nominated.

Last two finals 8-9 goals from frees to our opponents to nil to us. Pretty unusual.

That’s two finals in a row where Umpires have absolutely, incorrectly, gifted our opponents multiple goals to turn the game. Even commentators agree. What the f is going on. Pearce belted in the head, not the bruise one and totally ignored.

Recruiting is an opinion based role and not one AFL recruiter gets it right every time. Luck, development, opportunity, injury, game style and a host of other factors come into it and no one can predict all of them ahead of time. Star juniors may not make it and yet others not as good early on do. The good recruiters nail most of their early draft picks and some of the later ones. That is about the best you can hope for. Now to the $64 question, who do we take, I wouldn’t have a clue and only 4 more sleeps until I find out.

I saw someone walking around with a barbecue starter, behind the southern goal posts at Goschs during training, so we are not far away.

I wonder if clubs leak info, to induce other clubs to perhaps change direction slightly and therefore have another option available at their pick. Then again, maybe recruiting has become too sophisticated for that. Would a club take a player just because another club wanted to, probably not. Asked and answered.

Certainly hope so.

Well done 6 and enjoy the retirement, spent mainly at Dees training. Adams looks taller. XL looks stronger. Would like to see Jeffo put on some more upper body muscle. Culley is a big mid. Rookie Berry nice size.

2027 is 2 years away, but sounds an interesting kid to follow until then. Might have another F/S or two as well that year.
