PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 14th January 2026
Have never seen Tom Matthews touch the footy live, but there is something about this small footballer that reminds me of Nick Watson. I just have this feeling we have another good footballer in the pipeline.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 14th January 2026
Which May were you looking at? He was last in all of the run throughs and got worse as they went on. He didn't look injured, but will need work on his fitness.

What time is training tomorrow ( wednesday ) at Gosch's?

Training Ground?
You have me agreeing.

Don't think they would want that much non racing use of the track, though you could possibly lay a protector mat of some sort down for access for training.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 9th January 2026
Nick Daicos was actually sick and walking around away from the others. Don't think he was starring on his slow walk.

A tunnel from our facilities to the ovals, inside the 28m wide track, can be dug without interfering with the racetrack. I am sure the tunnel could be done at a time when the track is not used during Caulfield downtime and they also own Sandown and Mornington racetracks as well. Yes, it is possible to dig a tunnel under a 28m wide racetrack without disturbing the top track layer using trenchless construction methods. These specialized engineering techniques are designed to minimize surface disruption, making them ideal for tunneling beneath active infrastructure like roads, railways, and racetracks. Methods for Non-Disruptive Tunneling The primary methods used for this type of application are: Microtunneling This is a remotely controlled, steerable system where a small-diameter boring machine (MTBM) excavates the tunnel. As the machine advances, pre-fabricated pipes are simultaneously jacked into the ground behind it, providing immediate structural support and ensuring ground stability. This method is highly accurate and minimizes ground settlement, which is crucial for sensitive surface structures. Pipe Jacking Similar to microtunneling, this method involves pushing pre-fabricated pipes or box sections through the ground using powerful hydraulic jacks from a drive shaft. It is commonly used for installing utilities or pedestrian subways under existing infrastructure without interrupting surface traffic. Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) For larger tunnels (such as a full vehicle underpass), a TBM could be used. Modern TBMs with positive face pressure control (like Earth Pressure Balance or Slurry Shield) are specifically designed to operate in urban environments and soft ground conditions while maintaining soil pressure to prevent surface subsidence. Key Considerations for Success Geotechnical Investigation Before construction begins, a thorough site investigation of the ground and soil conditions (including groundwater levels) is essential to select the appropriate method and machine. Unexpected ground conditions are a main cause of failure in trenchless projects. Minimum Depth of Cover The tunnel must be installed at a sufficient depth below the track to ensure the stability of the surface. A qualified tunnelling engineer would determine the precise minimum depth required based on the soil type and tunnel size. Monitoring The process involves continuous and sensitive monitoring of the ground and the track surface to detect any minute movements and make real-time adjustments to the jacking pressure or excavation rate. Logistics The construction will require entry and exit shafts (jacking and reception pits) at either end of the proposed tunnel path, located away from the racetrack itself. By employing these advanced engineering techniques, the structural integrity and operational functionality of the racetrack can be maintained during the tunneling process.

Probably because there is not full agreement on everything that is involved in getting the project approved and completed.

I don't disagree.

I havenโt got a clue, just that my info from the MRC, school and us, is that it is happening. Could it fall over, yes obviously, but at this point I have not heard anything suggesting that. It sounds like we donโt control the announcement, or that there are other issues still to be resolved, I donโt know, but until somebody in the know tells me the opposite, to what I have heard, I will believe the project is proceeding. Just because it hasnโt been formally announced doesnโt mean it is definitely not happening, that is all I am saying, until we hear officially otherwise. If this project falls over I will be very, very disappointed, as personally I am really looking forward to it being done and as a nearby resident with my family, would be able to visit often and get some valuable exercise walking there and back and spending time with other Dees fans at training, which I canโt do at the present venues as easily.

Direct opposite info I have received from all three organisations either currently there, or hoping to be there.

I did say for 10 years. $100.00 a year for 10 years.

I donโt know the funding breakdown, but someone mentioned $30m from Government. If thatโs true, guessing a Federal State even split, that is $15m each. That is a drop in the bucket. The State Government is according to media reports spending over a billion dollars on its Treaty program, so what is honoring say a $15M promise to a football club, that unlike others you have given heaps to, has not received a cent from you. A small waste saving by both Governments would cover it easily. Even if the Governments walked away, creating perhaps 100000 angry Dees and community voters, I believe we could find the money as I have posted earlier. There are many ways to raise money, just for example, increased membership, voluntary membership fee increase for a period, with added benefits like store, restaurant and attraction discounts and MRC membership , raffles, merchandise sales, new sponsors, donors, Council assistance, etc, etc and we would just have to work harder and smarter to get it. Hopefully see you all at Caulfield training in a couple of years.

2026 Breakout Players
Hoping Kentfield, Jeffo and Howes have breakout years. With Mihocek added, it will be harder for the first two to both make it this year.

2026 Breakout Players
I have written him off previously, but this is the year where he has his best and probably last chance to make it with us. I have a funny feeling he just may do it. Good luck Bill.

I donโt see a Government contribution of say $30m being removed, as scuttling the project. First, it would be unlikely to not get anything, if that was the figure that was originally promised, even if there was a reduction and secondly, say 30000 adult members of the MFC, if there was no other way to get the missing contribution, would only need to up their membership by $100.00 a year for 10 years to cover that whole amount. That member contribution of course relates to the whole $30m and without any other efforts to find that amount. I donโt see us losing a Government contribution, given the contribution made to other clubs. Also with Tassie coming in, the TV rights will increase and the AFL may have more to provide if there was a shortfall. Then of course there will be the extra money we will get for winning the next few flags.
