Ross Lyon 2021
While I don't want to be considered an apologist, some factors make the loss a bit easier to take. We know of the external factors that affected the game, like the competition being cancelled 30 minutes before we played, the hotel shift where the boys obviously had a disrupted sleep, the threat of being stuck in WA and playing at the Eagles dung heap. I can't wait for JnrMac to attack me over mentioning them. However, aside from a wasted first quarter we matched the Eagles for the rest of the day. We again were wasteful with our ball use and while we seemed to miss every opportunity that we had in the first quarter, the Eagles grabbed every one of their limited ones. I think from memory that once again we had more inside 50"s than the Eagles, but just wasted the chances. We missed set shots and snaps while they seemed to roll them in from everywhere. We also played a couple of debutants, who actually showed something and remember they are a very experienced and successful team playing at home. Our effort in my opinion was reasonable and nothing like the 2018 PF which was crap. We have a season to build on and IMO the loss was neither unexpected or terrible. We must fix up our forward 50 entries and ball use if we want to succeed long term. I wonder what the result would have been playing at the G with the same external circumstances affecting the Eagles.

Forward 50 Entries Are Being Addressed
That is a bit simplistic. This is how I see it. When you play a WCE, who are probably the masters at intercept footy, you don't kick the ball high to two Eagles on one Demon, which we did continuously. How often did we kick it to Fritsch, who had McGovern and Barrass/Hurn on him? That is just lazy and stupid footy. For a start we have a loose man in that situation and we ignored him. We also had some pace down there in Kossie and Bedford and you a least give them the chance to get it, by either finding them with a kick, or by kicking it wide of McGovern and his mate, which would see the ball on the ground, giving us a chance to get it and score. I am astounded at how dumb some footballers are to keep doing what is clearly not working, over and over again. I don't know what the Coaches are doing or teaching them, but if it was me Coaching, I would tell them that the next bloke who kicks to 2 on one as above, is going for a run after the game. Get the message across to them. The other problem we have is a general lack of skill with the ball, which sees us miss passes and handballs. That is a killer in today's game. Having 2 big blokes down forward is not the panacea to our problems.

Peter Matera Was Almost a Demon
Well according to Don Scott, Matthews was pretty much a loner and kept to himself. I am not sure he would have changed our culture.

Peter Matera Was Almost a Demon
We were very close to getting Leigh Matthews at about 28 and he was coming, until Hawks matched our offer, which was well above theirs.

Fixture Throwback: Rd 13 2014 vs Essendon
Reckon the happiest bloke on the ground besides Salem was Howe, who with seconds to go, spoiled a Demon at CHB, who was going to take the match saving, uncontested chest mark. Howe knocked it away, giving the Bombers one more chance to score and win the game.

Well if they discover the Tinea cure, you better hope they don't get Australia Post to deliver your medication. Your feet will drop off before it arrives. They are taking weeks to deliver a letter locally, or a small parcel. With so many people unemployed, you would think they would hire some more workers

Can anyone help identify any of these players?
He was a fair way out to be fair, I think it was 2 metres.

Forward entry at Training
IMO it has nothing to do with the numbers, it is just poor kicking and decision making. If a forward leads, you kick the ball short, so he can run onto it, not over his head to the guy behind. Also, when you look up and see say Fritsch on 2 big backs, you don't kick it up high in the air, you kick it wide, to allow him to run to it and at least create a contest, which then also allows a small forward to come in and help.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
If we lockdown properly and say get over the peak in 2-3 months, Footy without spectators could be back in July. Of course there are more important things than sport, but it can lift the morale of so many and in times like these and those what will follow, it can help the national recovery a little.

POSTGAME: Rd 01 vs West Coast
Why don't you read my post slowly and try to understand what I have written. I never said that "rumours of difficulty getting home" was an excuse for poor kicking. What I said was, that I am not too critical of a 27 point loss, given ALL the factors that I mentioned. Read it again here "Given the late flight, change in hotel, suspension of the competition just before the game, rumours of difficulty getting home, more inside 50 entries, playing a WCE at home and at full strength, poor disposal and terrible form of most of the team and then only losing by 27 points, I am not too critical of the result."
