  1. Think that's an example of class stereotyping.
  2. I used to follow Harry on Twitter but couldn't take much more of his new-age philosophy babble.
  3. Pokies are wrong, wrong, wrong. No wonder Carlton is so heavily involved.
  4. I'm embarrassed by this thread & several others bagging players. Different players, different talents. Not everyone is Balls Grinter. Do some of you examine every replay for players to bellyache about? This is so out of kilter with the mood & spirit of our club right now.
  5. We were humiliated on a Friday night (& it was televised live) but there was an element of good fortune in that it was the night of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. So by the morning, everyone was talking Olympics.
  6. She is terrible. Doesn't have an original observation in her repertoire & woefully ignorant about Melbourne players (Scully became Bartram at one stage, to quote an example). But her male colleagues are pretty dire, too. Luke Darcy (if he was commentating today) repeatedly referred to Trengrove, Pettard -- I know he's not Robinson Crusoe there -- but it's just unprofessional. & was it that Maher fellow on the boundary who made mention of Ashley Hansen playing in this game?
  7. There is crankiness behind this post. In all my years supporting Melbourne I've felt philosophical about players leaving, going home, not wanting to play for us. But Judd just left me cold with his "I'm a different sort of dude" that gave us hope he might actually play for a club he used to support. And to clearly be lured by the money club, take their coin & be so part of their questionable culture, I can't have any respect for him. I hate the way commentators cut him slack (Sheahan writes about "Juddy") & the umpires give him an easy go. He's a pretender of a captain & unfortunately a pretty good player.
  8. Call me obsessive, but as happy as I am with the Demons, well, delighted, I will feel we really have arrived when we prove that Chris Judd backed the wrong horse by choosing the brown paper bags of Carlton over our unfashionable potential & "inadequate facilities". Hope that's soon.
  9. Watching the game on Foxtel here in WA I was so proud to hear the commentators full of praise for us. Tony Shaw was loving us, Alistair Lynch less so because of his Brisbane allegiance. We are an excitement machine!
  10. Weather forecast: windy with showers. Will that help us?
  11. Have to admit this topic surprises me because I'm amazed anyone still watches it.
  12. Cometti's liking for the Demons on show again. Maybe he could give us some coaching tips?
  13. Please cut Strauss some slack. First game in extreme circumstances. I'm despairing, too.
  14. Living in the West, I don't have the luxury of picking up the scarf. Had a few from when I lived in Melbourne & gave one to a Demons supporter here, But when I need a cap, sometimes I pull out one they were selling at training before the 2000 GF along the lines of Melbourne 2000 grand finalist. I love it because people here can't believe we were in a GF this decade. Well, not sure I can, either.
  15. About to head back to the TV for the second half feeling like I'm lining up for some horrible punishment.
  16. The author is an Essendon-supporting Melburnian. Think his views might best be described as whimsy. Nothing wrong with that.
  17. If I recall accurately, his tweet referred to his gorgeous girl, or similar. He was talking about his wife, I think.
  18. I'd like to add that Demonland is v. important to me. I enjoy it & it's a great link to the club, especially since I've lived outside Victoria. & I feel a sense of community w. fellow Landers.
  19. If you rang talkback radio & defamed a player they would use the dump button or temper your comments by disagreeing with you. Sometimes I just can't read the running down of players that I see on here & 'ology. It's not the same as shouting from the bleachers. There's a premium on the written word, it is supposed to be considered & more permanent. There was recently a case, damages awarded, I think, after comments posted on an investors/stockmarket forum. The bloke got a lawyer who was able to find the poster through the administrators & sue him. Defamation is a serious thing.
  20. Spoke to someone who might know & he said Grover is a "tough" opponent, as in can be quite fearsome, & this may have worked on LJ. Also could have been a case of indigenous players sometimes not playing well on some other indigenous players.
  21. I don't think Sheahan's comments about DB are "salacious" (lewd or erotic) & I think he's right. If we sign DB for two & win, say, three games for the year how will it be for the players, fans at the end of this season? No one will want to play for us (already mentioned on this site or 'ology that Scully seems less than impressed to be there), our membership will be reduced to only the rusted-on types like those of us who contribute to this site. We simply can't afford another lousy season, let alone two, when our existence is tenuous.
  22. Don't think the fact that people get it wrong a lot is a reason to do away w. the rules. The 's' is more of an American thing -- e.g. defense -- but is wrong in Australian English. Anyway is simple: to practise (verb) but a practice (noun). Don't seem to have the same problem w. advice & advise because they're pronounced slightly differently.
  23. According to whom? One is a verb & the other a noun.
  24. LJ played a couple of games during the last WAFL season that were standouts & was fantastic in the State game v. SA. I was watching him closely & at one stage was really hoping we'd pick him up. But, really, his big games were too few & consistency was missing. He would have been a gamble as a high pick, but would have been nice to get him a year earlier. The story about Neville's mum came out on the night we had that indigenous tribute in the Long Room.
