  1. Good report, DemonDan. I was there, too, & was amazed by how often our forward line, half-forward line, anything forward of centre was empty. Just players bunching around the ball. Then the ball would be going forward & everyone was struggling to get to it. Also, hitting targets was poor & Freo showed us up a few times by taking the ball out of defence up the middle. Dees were constantly going around the boundary w. the result that the ball was out of bounds or bottled up. Scully was the highlight among many lowlights.
  2. Colours on my 2009 sticker are holding in Perth sun, though no rain here since November 20!
  3. Yes, I just read a report that Mars was a possible replacement for the Malaysian government. I'd often wondered what that squiggle on their jumper was (obviously not enough to research it -- well, I don't really care about who their sponsor is). Ordinary marketing/advertising when the sponsor's name isn't legible.
  4. We're going round in circles here, but I think Judd had to the chance to play for the jumper he apparently "loved" & showed that he loved money more. He strung us along before turning his nose up at the facilities. We don't need him. especially his gouging habit.
  5. Let's just be glad we've got a crop of young &, we hope, talented kids and that we didn't have the facilities to suit the mercenary Judd.
  6. Actually, we do have a fair idea what Judd's like off the field, thanks to is liking for having his picture taken w. his girlfriend. Judd at the races, Judd at Dr Edelsten's wedding to that big lady, Judd proposing to his GF etc. Obviously craves the limelight of the social pages. Not v. bright, I reckon.
  7. Good to read your views Fish. AFL has a v. important role in helping indigenous communities -- right some wrongs -- as much as I disagree w. the motives of the AFL in other areas. As Demons, we are proud & privileged to have Liam J playing for us.
  8. Would love to get Liam Patrick -- I am a romantic -- but we may as well be trying to get Neville Jetta's cousin, too. Anyway, those who remember the Cockatoo-Collins hype (mid-90s) would agree that family fairy tales aren't always productive for the club.
  9. Aussie Rob Centre sounds just fine. That is a badly written story, full of corporate speak. They really are missing sub-editors at The Age.
  10. My thoughts, too. What a joyless, tortured organisation it is. Humourless Mick breathing over your shoulder. It's sport. They're not saving lives.
  11. He could have been a great of the game -- & we could have had a flag. Remember 1994 (happy to be corrected) when we had Lyon, DS, Charles, Jako ... my memory is failing me but we had a solid/star front six. Was M. Pike one of them? That was our time!
  12. I'm not a fan of old timers' footy matches but was drawn to the Mainwaring tribute match by the advertised inclusion of the enigmatic former no. 13. Didn't go the game at Subi but watched the TV coverage -- of course Jako wasn't there & there was no mention of his absence. Where is he? But, as a consolation, the Dees were well represented. CC was the coach of the opposition team -- Connolly's Commandos -- & players included Woey, Spalding, Shaun Smith, Chopper Lovell, Dean Irving (played for us for a while), don't think I've missed any. Some of those old footballers are still pretty good. Old Eagles like Heady & Kemp look like they could still be going around & Modra can still kick a magnificent goal. Cometti noted that the goal-kicking was less of a problem than w. present-day players.
  13. Also would be great to lure a good player to the club. Keeping Davey was important, of course we've got loads of kids w. potential but attracting an established top player would give us an image boost (not to mention an onfield advantage).
  14. Interesting development .. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/melb...x-1225784046468
  15. Sylvinator: hope your assessment is right. I know the Davey trepidation has got out of hand but, as much as we need his skills, the symbolism of his loyalty or otherwise would be telling.
  16. Herald Sun: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/aaro...f-1225780945073 Oh, I hate this time of year. After such a stinking season we have our emotions further messed with.
  17. I will be devastated if he goes but I did feel during the season that the club was holding him back when he was in the best form of his career. There were jokes on here about keeping him on the bench. Why wouldn't he feel aggrieved that he was being robbed of his peak form?
  18. Thanks, Einstein. That's the most positive thing I've heard (though have to be prepared to be shocked at this time of year). Hard to get a handle on things from this side of the country -- but thank God for the internet!
  19. I've been scouring the internet, papers, for news on Aaron Davey. Can anyone offer reassurance?
  20. oh, where do I start? As the Dees have mostly been on Fox (another story, but not for here) this year, I've been appalled when, like on saturday when I decided to watch Coll v. Adelaide, they have a couple of clowns on the boundary -- not sure who they are or what they've got to do w. football but they're unprofessional a la Ricky Olarenshaw. & why do they insist on giving us shots from the Space Station? One minute you're seeing a player on the wing & then they're on the moon! A. Maher has one of the worst voices in electronic media. Does he still introduce interviewees on SEN as "Welcome great man"? (then throw to some B-grader?)
  21. Went to Melbourne in 1986, didn't support a VFL team but, for reasons of geography -- & after much study -- decided to support Richmond. Went to a few games & had to admit I had no liking for them at all. Confessed this to a friend & that another team had turned my head. He asked "the Demons?" Told me to jump teams immediately as Warren Dean was (in his words) the best footballer on earth. So I was reborn as a Demon, have kept the faith & since coming back to WA two years ago have missed seeing them live most weeks. But I have hope for the future.
  22. I've always thought Judd's "intelligence" was a myth. Have you heard the bloke speak? & what about that weird new-age stuff that he used to write for the Sunday Age? Think the pressure point story says it all.
  23. I've long admired him for putting his body on the line, though he's relatively slight, & he's a natural, if quiet, leader. I noticed on the TV coverage on Sunday that when Tom Mac had that kick for goal, as the seconds ticked towards quarter-time, JMac ran to be next to him & was obviously encouraging him to go for it. Result? TM's first goal.
  24. Demon Davey, A. should be player of the round. Vote here: http://www.realfooty.com.au/polls/form.html
