  1. does anyone else remember what a riot of a bloke jaka was off-field, too? maybe clubs didn't have the rein on players then, but he had some fabulous things to say. after an early game he was asked about being flamboyant & said -- was he clever enough for tongue-in-cheek? -- he didn't know what that word meant. asked on radio about his favourite goal, he said "the one i give off to grinter" -- such faux selfishness. he was a gem that boy. also remember going to the turf club hotel in flemington where he'd got up & sung w. the band. we had to settle for him joining in from behind the bar. &, of course, the brotherly kiss, the aeroplane goal celebration, the jumper-over-the-head celebration. there's never been anyone like him in the afl.
  2. this season may be shot, but I'm desperately hoping that we beat carlton next week. let me analyse this ... seems it's something to do w. chris judd.
  3. the mercenary judd put our facilities on the map when he turned his nose up at them when he was on his "listening tour" even though he'd already done a deal w. carlton. don't think trav's comments had a bitter tinge to them or is it just that some of us find it hard to think ill of him?
  4. demonlanders -- first post -- pls cut me some slack. i've relocated after decades in melbourne & reckon i paid my dues w. the annual trek to KP (are we the only club that does it nigh on every year?) i remember missing one (had to work) &, listening on the radio, thinking jeff farmer was going to get us across the line (he didn't); sean charles doing similar & another, early season, when the wiz, wearing red boots & the number 8, almost did but, of course, we lost it in time on. remember, earlier, ablett kicking more goals than we did, though shaun smith did his best on a day when the rain was driving so hard that our heads were bent. (know that was '96 because we were listening to the opening ceremony of the atlanta games on the way down the highway). but all the fruitless trips to that hayseed hell became worth it when we won in -- was it 2005? i wanted to do star jumps on those miserable terraces but, by then, not having been able to convince others to give up their saturdays to be disappointed, i was by myself & just grinning like the idiot i am. our breakthrough win took a back seat in the press to the omigod hysteria about nathan ablett's first game. sorry, this is a rant, but, hell, as bad as things are & me being in WA, i really wish i was flying the flag at that horrible ground this weekend. Go dees!
