  1. He's a kid making his way, and learning the game........postitives far outweigh the negatives.
  2. Great to see younger blokes getting a chance and being rewarded for their persistence! Good luck Shane Valenti.......may you see plenty of game wearing the famous red and blue!
  3. And Brock McLean a Bombers supporter, David Schwarz a Hawks supporter.............the list can go on and on. Unless it's father / son, has club supported as a kid ever really mattered?
  4. I've got no one I'll defend religiously, but I will defend a player if I think they have had something written about them that I think is crap. If I have a soft spot for anyone, it's probably Sylvia at the minute............he has the talent, but I think injuries and personal probs have disrupted his development, but I can see him becoming a key player for us going forward.
  5. Sorry Giro........don't know if you've watched Embley lately, but he is only just going at the minute! Very injury prone, and no way known we would let Bruce or Green go to get him.....that's nuts!
  6. Right on the money Stuey! I'll defend any supporters right to have an opinion on our players.........but what gives me the absolute s**ts is personal abuse or denigration of any of our players. What kind of culture do we as supporters contribute to the club? Keep telling someone he's a dud for long enough, and pretty soon they start to believe it. I'd hate to have some of you here as parents! What someone like Colin Garland must think if he ever dared to read some of the posts about himself over the past few weeks. A kid, still learning the trade, and who has played a handful of games judged by know all supporters that he isn't going to make it. Pure gold!
  7. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/D...px?newsid=58946 Well done to the players / staff of the club for all getting behind the membership push! And well done to those members who re-signed. A damn good result, considering that Acker said on the Footy Show last night the Bullies did a similar thing recently and only signed up around 200 members, and they are flying on field at the minute!
  8. The way Green is playing compared to some of his teammates, he deserves the right to pull a few of them aside and ask what's going on! It's all about the culture the team / coaches accept as the norm. I don't think this is anything new for the Lions....just new for Travis. That just tells me that when Daniher was in charge.......he was in charge! The players had to follow the lead. Leadership from your peers is a completely different kettle of fish. I don't blame our players solely.......they largely are a product of their environment.
  9. Wow....that's genius! Why aren't you heading up recruitment and list management at the club?
  10. Does anyone know how well Bate has played in his last few games for Sandy? If Garland was BOG last week, and Bate has been just ordinary, or hasn't shown the work rate, or whatever other reason the coach isn't happy with, then so be it! Well done to Garland........after having a shocker with us, he got dropped, and has bounced straight back.......hope he has good game.
  11. 17 and Jones / McLean won't get us pick 2. I like both McLean and Jones, and wouldn't be letting them go in a trade anyway. If the Bombers get pick 2, no way in hell they will be trading it. They are fast running out of champions and will be hanging for a genuine star with pick 2.
  12. IMO supporters live for the dream / hope of a premiership and success. If we know for a fact we can't win one, then why bother playing.....we would simply be a club making up the numbers, and I couldn't support that!
  13. He is all class Neita, all class! Champion player, and champion bloke. Soldier on mate, and hopefully you'll get the send off you deserve!
  14. If my club relocated / merged / folded, I would walk away from footy in all forms, and never watch it again. You don't support a club like ours for decades without having an emotional attachment to the club, and I'd be shattered if anything happened to the MFC. In my mind, there is no AFL unless the MFC is in it!
  15. Was thinking the same thing after I Googled the name as well!
  16. Sutti.........is this something sanctioned by the club? If so, what is the scope of it, and is it something McNamee has requested since coming on board?
  17. 1. The Melbournefc 2008 team is performing worse in the first 5 rounds then any other team in the last 10 years. True 2. Chris Judd would have saved this club, on and off the field. False....our problems run deeper than one player 3. Judd would be a Demon had Kevin Sheedy been coach False....see previous answer 4. Paul Gardner is an idiot False.......I actually think he has done a good job in a very, very difficult position 5. Dean Bailey is implementing a gameplan suited to quick, fit and confident footballers, ala. Port Power 2004. We do not have quick, fit and confident footballers. False.....I see him trying to implement a gameplan that the players still haven't come to terms with yet. As a result their confidence is shot to pieces. 6. If Melbourne's performance doesn't improve after 6 rounds, as said it would, Dean Bailey will get the sack/resign False.....Bailey deserves time and patience from the club and supporters at this stage - if you don't agree, wake up and smell the coffee........it's rebuild time! 7. MelbourneFC will be a completely different club/brand/image in 3 years time. True...we have to be, or we will perish. 8. 150 years of history means nothing when you have 40+ years of mediocrity False...........I'd rather support a club with a history of success, and 12 flags that's had it's ups and downs for the last 40 years, than a club that has no history, or one which has been making up the numbers since they started. 9. The AFL was sitting back in its big, expensive leather chair last week at the site of 23k at a match played by two Melbourne clubs, and thinking "Goodluck, guys! You're on your own from here on in." False 10. North and Melbourne will eventually join forces aka. merge. False 11. Most Melbourne members would support such a move Absolutely False! 12. Melbourne's performance this year, on and off the field, is exactly what the AFL wants. They don't want 10 teams in Melbourne. The more the bigger clubs distance themselves from the smaller ones, the more opportunity there is for relocation and folding. Somewhat True.......I'm not sure they wanted it to be Melbourne, but there's no doubt they want less teams in Melbourne 13. Cameron Bruce is the most overrated player in the AFL False 14. David Neitz is finished False.........will be True by seasons end though 15. Adam Yze is finished True 16. The Melbourne FC is finished. Absolutely False - we are simply reloading and getting ready to rip it up for the next 150 years, except this time we'll land 24 flags!!!!!!!!!!
  18. No way in hell Brown will be leaving Brisbane, and if he did, he's too honorable to leave them with nothing. No way known you would get Salopek for Bell in a straight swap. And no way known we would get Bock for Newton and a draft pick. There is no quick fix for the problems we currently have. Forget 2009 as a rebound year.....it won't happen! We are in a good position from the point of view that we have a solid core of younger players that can learn and get better together. We just need a major injection of quality with a couple of star kids. Just my opinion, but we need two years of raiding of the draft, this year and next year, and that's means two number 1 picks, and all the priority picks we can get! Brock should definitely not be going anywhere, or any of our youngsters for that matter. If the right deal comes along for an established player, then do it. Time to build for the future.
  19. I'm really stuggling to to get my head around this Casey idea. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Casey idea came to life because we just happened to play the Roos out there in a preseason game. As a result, and with mounting bad press on the club about a disjointed preseason training arrangement, the club has thought......."hey, what about a base at Casey?" I know the club to date has only considered it as an alternative to a preseason base until our new home is ready, and I think that's a good idea. But let's not kid ourselves.........Casey isn't our golden ticket. Do we know anything about the demographics out there, whether we indeed have much of a supporter base in the outer east? Being in an area, doesn't simply equal getting members and supporters in that area.........otherwise the Saints wouldn't be up and relocating to Frankston. It's not like we go out there (Casey) one day, and pick up 10,000 members / supporters the next! The Hawks already had some identity with Waverley, having played home games out there for a number of years, as well as winning a premiership out there. We have no relationship or real reason to connect with the residents of Casey, most of whom would already have their club allegiances, and wouldn't simply change because the MFC moved in on their doorstep. Any permanent move to any location sure be done with the appropriate planning and due diligence. We can't afford to manage the club on the run anymore!
  20. First time I have heard it.....not sure if others have, but Barass urging supporters to get on board. Finished off the ad with "If it is to be, it's up to US!" Good to hear a legend flying the flag for the club.........thanks Barass, I wasn't going to, but you've prompted me to buy a membership for my 7 month old.
  21. 1. Neitz - An absolute champion! 2. Bruce 3. Sylvia - I rate this bloke (even though many don't!) and reckon he has the biggest upside of any player on our list. Morton - too early to say, though he does look good!
  22. Robbo is the only half decent positive press we are getting at the minute........let's cut him some slack.
