Its simple. To be competitive, we need inside players to win clearances/contested ball; we need outside players to gut run. Simple: we need uncompromising effort. If you don't win clearances and/or you don't gut run, you don't get a game.

He's a basketballer, who came very late to footy. Nothing more to say. Ed: oh yeah, he was good for super coach teams in 2011. FFS Ed2: the only basketballer of note is Pendulbury who was equally good/great at both basketball and footy. The rest, including Tippet and Martin, are basketballers.

Yes. it is now, but wasn't when I put the OP. You'd have to think the MFC bought into it. As regards who do you bring in? Anybody who is fit and hasn't been tried yet this year - Pittard, Tapscott, Gysberts, Dunn, Couch, Fitzpatrick, Morton, Sellar, Bennell etc Easy.

Link This appears on the MFC club web site (and only there I think). Pretty strong stuff and presumably with Neeld's backing.

Ben Hudson Better recruit than Mitch Clarke
Mono replied to jumbo returns's topic in Melbourne Demons
I well remember Matthews having a shot at us for paying a largish lump of TJ's first year salary at the Lions as in we were stupid and the Lion's had shafted/conned us. Fraid not Matthews - that was the price we paid to move TJ on and get a 1st rounder for him. Lions were the ones shafted/conned. I agree; they are very similar types. Jamar will get better. -
No argument with me Clint; I remember making the same point early in Bailey's time. Something along the line of: "if you have a team of plumbers, you can't turn them into electricians (or lawyers)". Depends how inflexible Neeld's plan is/are in terms of the need for specific types of players. You'd have thought that it CAN'T be that specific.

Rivers spent a large part of the game on Leuenberger - about 6 inches taller and 15kg? more than him - with rarely a 2nd man up. What's he supposed to do? In the end, Leuenberger only got one goal, so maybe he didn't do too bad in some respects.

Talk about positive spin. Won't matter a rat's arse if the players don't work hard: win the ball if you are an inside player; gut run to exhaustion if you are an outside player.
-
IMO we lost because we didn't work anywhere near hard enough. In the third quarter, many players became spectators; even rabbits caught in the spotlight. Players did not gut run to give their mates a target, or to cover an opponent, or help out. I watched Garland not run to assist on at least one occasion FHS. This is where I thought Bartram and Tynan (and Trengove and Jones to some extent) where really good. When Frawley looked up for an option, too often there was none if Tynan or Bartram didn't make the effort. And the 3rd qtr kickouts descended into a Bailey type rabble. Yes, we got smashed in the clearances, but that doesn't mean you stop running. We are supposedly fitter than ever; no point if the players are not prepared to run and work hard. Neeld is on the record as saying that each player has a role to play; if they can't or won't, then back to the VFL. Interesting week ahead.

6- Magner 5- Trengove 4- Howe 3- Bartram 2- Bail 1- Tynan (because the kid had a real crack, unlike many others)
-
Steve Martin might get the job done.
-
Bail is playing.

If this is true, and given Neeld's reluctance to promote rookies, you'd think Couch might play Saturday. Makes selection interesting: lots of hard-at-it mids; wonder who will miss out? Moloney, Jones, Couch and Magner all very similar types.

Set up a SuperCoach league if anyone interested: Demonland +1; number 682635 541230 Whoops, sorry: Dreamteam

5AA are broadcasting the Melbourne v. Port game
Mono replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nope. Unless you like hearing the port players called by their first names, and the callers not knowing the MFC players (probably excepting Green) names. And then there is the amateur calling....don't get me started. Just log into AFL.COM.AU and get the score updates. Way better. -
I think he does. If a player brings the game into disrepute etc etc............................ Not sure what beats 2 serious charges of crimes of violence (alleged). Murder? Best case for me is he stands down ( but trains) til the issue is resolved. IMO Jurrrah has been handled very kindly/gently. Hope he makes it.

I withdraw this, my original post in this thread. I read "indefinite leave" and imagined months (hopefully incorrectly). As Nasher and others have said, its maybe 1 or 2 weeks; with this I have no problem. FWIW, I thought Wonna should have been let go well before he was.
-
OK champ, where do you draw the line? 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 6 months...duration of contract. The AFL is a work place, 4 weeks 'leave'. What workplace gives you unlimited 'time off' (love to get a job there)? binman: I said NOT paid leave; as for most of the leave you mention, it is unpaid. He can have as much unpaid leave as he wants. Just staying on our list is reward enough.

Dreamteam League, for demon supporters only
Mono replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
I've created another: Demonlanders +1 league No. 541320 -
I have no problem with the leave so long as Jurrah is not being paid. He is welcome back any time, and to being paid when he rejoins the list. If, however, he is being paid for his "leave", then it is just plain [censored]. The MFC is not a welfare agency.

Pics Left shoulder? Collarbone?

Anyone actually at training this morning who can fill in any details?
-
Neeld was appointed before the draft period (I think?), so he would have been part of his delist.
-
I think we all hear that you don't rate Bate. Plenty do (including Neeld who convinced him to stay). So, give it a rest. Ed.: spelling

just curious - did they fly coach or business? Flights what? 2.5 hrs?
