  1. 5/7/83, 186cm, 86kg,75 games, 42 goals. Relieved he has gone to the Saints because we were being linked to him too! The Saints feel they are in the window and know they lack pace and running power and the additions of Lovett and to a lesser extent Peake address this. They should get a pick in late first/early second for Ball - not much of a loss for mine - or perhaps another quick runner like Wellingham.
  2. Brendan Fevola will be 29 in January. The only person who should take responsibilty for his actions is himself. The media is not reporting the cruder details out of respect for the other parties involved. Given the nature of the allegations about his behaviour on Grand Final night Carlton's decision to trade was inevitable as was the fact that the trade they would get would be minimal in terms of Fevola's football ability. The only good thing that come out of it is that Brendan Fevola might finally have the self insight to realise that he should not comsume alcohol. A big risk for the Lions for mine.
  3. There was no fight because for reasons outlined above Maclean was no longer one of our top players.
  4. Luke Ball is similar to Brock Maclean in many ways. Highly rated juniors taken early in the draft, performed well early in career, earned a big dollar contract on back of good early form, then struck down by chronic injury problems and could not recapture previous form, game role diminished due to drop off in form, new contract offer includes pay cut to reflect diminished abilities, gets annoyed by cut in contract, rival club gambles they can get body right and offers mega buck contract, player is swayed by bigger contract and promise of more game time in mid field For mine Ball is less likely to recover his form than Brock. Watching him run or kick, it just seems that he has never recovered from OP, seems to have no power through the core. Reputed to have been on $600,000 a year at Saints after coming out of contract after his stellar 2006? season. For mine these days he would be a $250-300,000 player at best. Avoid! Good news for the Saints and bad news for the Maggis for mine.
  5. Can't agree Freak. In recent seasons Brock has looked unift and slow and his disposal has been average. And yes, injury is to blame for the Brock of recent seasons but it is a fact that he has missed 28 games in 5 seasons and substantial parts of pre seasons with leg injuries. Unless that changes and he is able to stay free of injury long enough to build up the elite level endurance required for a slow inside mid then he will continue to be the limited player that he has been in recent years. But if you reckon Maclean's kicking is better than Grimes then we are viewing our games through different eyes. There is as always one thing we can agree on. Its all about MFC PS13.
  6. No deal for mine. Jamar has finally started to show frm in the ruck and his departure would leave us with ruck stocks of Meeson and Spencer. Rivers has finally got his body right and is an important player down back. Justin Westhoof is basically a skinny 198cm half forward, nowhere near a genuine key position player. we have planty of mid forwards.
  7. 16/5/88, 193kg, 99kg. 2006 Draft Selection No 28. From what I have seen of Dawes he is more a roaming tall than a key position, never seen him take a contested mark. Has played a few good games for the Pies but has spent most of his time playing VFL. His first year at Collingwood was spent recovering from a knee reco the previous year. Collingwood fans seem divided over whether he is a hack or a promising forward who should have got more games ahead of A Rocca. Buckley I'd keep and hope that he can get his body right. He has explosive turbo speed and can kick long. A player who can break a line and kick it long. Saints could have done with him against the Cats, had no one with turbo speed to receive and jet away from a contest carry it, and kick it long. Cook and Stanley. Er no thankyou. Positions on the list are precious.
  8. hmm really...think the Saints might have their second flag if they had a player with the line breaking pace and kicking ability of one Aaron Davey... pretty sure he would have created a few opportunities out of their 894 Inside 50s. not sure why you straight out dismiss his leadership abilities either.
  9. We are in the midst of the most thorough rebuild by an AFL club in the draft era. Trengrove looks highly promising. It would be very hard to pass him up at Picks 1 n' 2. Very much excited at the thought of adding Scully and Trengove and Pick 11 and Pick 18 to our outstanding stocks of young talent. Just add experience, good coaching and a stable club and.... MFC PS13..14...15 anyone?
  10. Davey will be 27 in June of 2010. If the issue is just 2 or 3 years then happy to go 3 years. That would take him though to age 29 and season 2012 . If he wants 4 years then would give it consideration but the trade off for the extra security for Davey would have to be a lower yearly salary to reflect our increased risk the MFC carries of having a highly payed 30 year old who might not be the footballer that he is at 27 due to injuries. As for the money we do need to pay him somwhere close to his market rate. Footballers salaries may seem obscene to us but thats the market. If he was swayed to go elsewhere, and Collingwood and Essendon have been rumoured, then the ball would be in those clubs court as there is no way he would last through to their PSD Selections or National Draft Selection should he choose that option. All in all I very much hope he stays. He is young enough to be part of MFC PS13 that we all hope will be produced by the the most thorough AFL List Re Build in the draft era. He might even be the MFC PS13 Captain because make no mistake, the most thorough AFL List Re Build in the draft era has us closer to a a Premiership than either of his rumoured suitors in Essendon or Collingwood.. not to mention the crisis hit Blues.
  11. Maclean has missed 28 games in 5 seasons with leg injuries as well as large chunk of pre seasons. There has to a query over whether he can avoid leg injuries for the sustained periods required to build the endurance he requires to perform at his best. There is no escaping the fact that he was mediocre this year. He looked slow and his disposal was ordinary.
  12. We are engaged in a full rebuild after the ultimately unsuccessful Daniher era. Yes, to do that properly in the age of the draft and the salary cap it does take 6 - 8 years to build a strong list with a multi seaon premiership window. Loving Dean Bailey's list management.
  13. Good News. Might settle some of the more nervous types around these parts.
  14. People need to relax and realise that Brock's move to Carlton will solve the oft asked question, 'Can you do donuts in a Prius?' All else is mere rumour but if some players want to move for the reasons speculated then it would be fair to say that I will be there to hold the door open. Brock for Pick 11 is a fair deal for mine. To be at his best Brock has to be super fit to play well as his game is about getting to as many contests as possible which requires elite endurance. There is a real question mark over whether he can remain injury free long enough - refer weeks missed due to injury below - to be able to get to that level of elite endurance. Its no use being a clearance specialist if you can't get to enough contests. Brock was ordinary this year, looked very slow and his disposal was average. It could indeed be a positive for Melbourne that he has looked around at the young developing talent around him and speculated on the arrival of Scully and Trengove and seen his place in the 22 in question and decided to move on. Carlton do need a fully fit Brock type and they are gambling on Brock being able to avoid injury and attain a level of fitness that has eluded him in recent years. In doing so they have foregone a pick that might have landed them a much needed potential replacement key forward for the soon to be 29 years old Fevola. Thats another gamble for the Blues. So Ratten and Riley know and appreciate Brock from their time at Melbourne. Well they knew and appreciated CJ from their time at Melbourne and its fair to say more than a few Blues fans are wishing they did not. We now have picks 1, 2, 11 and 18 in the least uncompromised draft for 3 or 4 years. Strong hand when added to our stocks of elite young talent. MIA Maclean 2009 - missed 3 games 2008 - missed 8 games - ankle injury: 8 2007 - missed 8 games - foot injury: 7, adductor injury: 1 2006 - missed 6 games - thigh injury: 1, groin injury: 1, hammie: 2, quad injury: 2 2005 - missed 3 games - groin injury: 3 2004 -missed 1 game - buttock injury: 1
  15. Wot?.. Ricky Nixon reckons he could do drafting better than AFL clubs? Definitely his own Nm 1 fan.
  16. first rule of trade week. don't trade for other club's list cloggers.
  17. McNamara has developed quite nicely. Youngest player taken in 07 draft. Played some very good footy for Casey this year after having played 3? senior games for Sandy last year. He shows good judgement across half back as to when to defend and when to attack, defends well one on one and runs the lines well. Hopefully he stays but if he does want to return home then I think both Crows and Power would be interested.
  18. Maclean had a disappointng season but he had an interrupted pre season due to his ankle injury. At his best he is a tough hard inside mid who can get the ball out to the ball carriers and is clearly in our best 22. Can't really see the point in trading him. They don't actually award the flag to the team with the most high draft picks. You need enough experienced match hardened bodies to win a flag. I'd back him to have a full pre season and get his running ability back thus enabling him to get back to his best and be one of those experienced match hardened bodies in the 22 for MFCPS13.
  19. "Jared Rivers is the oldest and is not likely to be at his peak when we are ready for a tilt." - Freak Jared Rivers was born on 18/10/84. That means he will start season 2010 aged 25. Freak, how long are you prepared to wait for a serious tilt at the flag? I am patient but I am really hoping a for a tilt at a flag before Jared Rivers reaches retirement age. He may not have be as good as each of Frawley et al in the areas you identified but he can most certainly read the play better than Frawley et al to be in position to either mark an opposition kick into the forward line, zone off to help a team mate or be with his opponent to spoil. How many times in a pack is it River's fist that spoils an opponent's marking attempt? Not tradeable.
  20. As of the 2008? trade week clubs do not have to use picks acquired in trade deals. A measure introduced to help players move clubs.

    Jamar

Jamar is currently our Nm 1 ruckman. Like most ruckman he has taken a long tme to mature. He started to hit his straps last year and in the games he has played this year he has clearly been our best ruckman - a physically mature hardened ruckman who is competitive at stop ball situations, has good second efforts, can take a contested grab and likes to be physical. Having just turned 26 there is no reason why he can't play a role in MFCPS13. If he does go it will weaken our team. Of course it could all be the mere speculation that abounds at this time of year!
  22. The Tait Timber & Harware Scoreboard? Quinces? Rent a Cars? Trucks? Around The Grounds - Frank? Considine, Polly Perkins, Mick Erwin? Can't stand Rex. You need a phrase book to work out which player he is talking about.
  23. Priority picks were originally not tradeable. I think that changed some years ago. Though you may be saying that it is our policy not to trade early picks. Amen to that!
  24. If i was Scully i would love to come to a club with our young talent. And Jurrah would get a game in EVERY teams forwward line. A fit Wona would be in most teams 22.
  25. German has done an exceptional job with a very young Casey list and with generally young inexperienced Melbourne players. Most impressed with his quarter time addresses. Always composed and gets through alot of information clearly and succintly. AND CASEY ARE ABOVE SANDRINGHAM ON THE LADDER! which based on some of the posts in these parts when the Casey alignment was announced is quite funny.
