  1. Zac Dawson wasn't afraid of physical contact either. Put his body on the line on many occasions.
  2. Burgess also managed fellow veterans Jones and Jetta this year and they both continued to decline. That extra year for players is a big thing. Half a million dollars plus is huge for those that don't have a career to step into after retirement. You can't blame them for wanting to cling on as long as they can, but this is only a short term fix us.
  3. Forget the fairytale return, the coach was apparently keen to see the back of him two years ago given his extra curricular activities! Made Watts look like a choir boy!
  4. Belief. Belief in the gameplan, belief in your teammates, belief in your skills, belief in your fitness...
  5. I also don't rate Baker. Two fluke goals in nine games is all I've seen. I also don't like the idea of recruiting 33-year-olds no matter how good they've been. So if Phillips is our best option let's get him unless we think there may be a sleeper in the VFL/SANFL/WAFL that can do the job...
  6. Could have had Adam Goodes at pick 43 too. We all saw him strut his stuff for North Ballarat grand final day 1996...
  7. I think the Lions bottom eight players are even worse than ours! And that's saying something. Stefan Martin should hang up the boots with Mitch Robinson, Zorko and Birchall.
  8. Geez, Stefan MArtin and big Oscar are getting cleaned up in the ruck.
  9. Has had a horrible year with Pie supporters labeling him a squib and soft. But has the runs on the board from previous seasons. In the right age group. Better than quite a few on our list.
  10. I wonder if Collingwood is playing funny buggers with us. Nev's probably been told by us that he's done. Pies come along (via Nev's management) and feign interest. As a result we reverse our decision... Nev's cooked unfortunately. Would be good if he retired as a one club player.
  11. I'm another that has followed him on Twitter and as others have said he doesn't come across as the most analytical of minds. Bit whiney, bit black and white for my liking. Obviously has football credentials, but I want a bit more from potential board members...
  12. Tigers and Cats. Saints without Ryder, Long and Carlisle will give a yelp for three quarters but lose by 23 points. Collingwood were great last week, but will hit a brick wall after their trip to the west. Have a feeling Hawkins will have a day out.
  13. Fair to say Tom made the least impact of any player on the list!
  14. He had one good year with us the same year Jamar was an All Australian. On paper it says he had a decent career. Premiership, All Australian, etc. I wonder if he fulfilled his potential.
  15. Kicked three or four in his Casey debut from memory. Shouldn't have gone unnoticed!
  16. Gee, big Oscar McInerney is playing some sort of a game. Another Casey player...
  17. You can't keep holding on to players that are NQR. You need to keep turning over the list in the hope that you can find a group of players that can do the job for you. At the moment we have around 12 senior guys and three kids who we know are up to it. We need plenty more. Teams that win finals are often judged on their bottom six players, those that can break even and do a job. Currently, we have a bottom 10 and that's what is holding us back.
  18. They recruited quality (Rockliff, Dixon, Burton, Lycett). They drafted quality (Duursma, Butters, Georgiades, Powell Pepper, Rozee, etc). There's not substitute for quality!
  19. Thought he had a good season. There were no headless chook runs this season. One-on-one was very good and used the short kick to advantage. He and Sicily combined well. Amazing what proper coaching can do.
  20. Interesting on Frost. I thought he was very good for the Hawks this year. Picked his moments. Did well one-on-one. No chook with its head cut off runs. Neatish disposal. I put that down to decent coaching. Back on Smith. Those saying he will improve the team next year, maybe? He has declined considerably over the past two years. Maybe 2021 is the year he hits the wall like Jones and Jetta did for us this year. If you bring him in it is one less person in the right age group that gets a chance to perform/develop. Also, with the salary cap it prevents you from competing for free agency players that are looking for a bigger pay packet. You should only top up with 32 year olds if you are:1. An extremely young list. We did this Cross. or 2. In the premiership window. Even then it is a risky business. We are neither. Our guns are primarily 24-25. They need the support of other guys in that age group.
  21. Always liked Smith as a player but Goodwin needs to stop topping up like we finished fourth this year. This is a 32 year old Smith not a 26 year old Smith. Goodwin is ruining the list profile that he inherited from Jackson and Roos. Jetta and Jones should retire this year. How will they feel if Smith is brought in?
  22. Exactly. If we can use him to bring in a first-18 player then well and good. Use him for a late draft pick. Na.
  23. Some people just don't know when to quit! Let it go man!
  24. He needs to do a year in the VFL, get used to football again. Kick a few bags and get rookied or drafted in 2022. AFL will be too big a step.
