Plenty to like. Lever has strung four excellent games in a row now. Brayshaw looked creative and like the dominant player he can be. The game plan was excellent. Norf couldn't get past Lever time after time. Langdon was good creating space but a bit fumbly. Oliver sprinting out of contests. Petracca in beast mode. Spargo was effective. Kozzy showed a bit. Loved Jackson's second efforts. Sparrow looked more comfortable. Two negatives were the goal kicking of Weed and Fritta. Against good teams those misses kill you.

Must be down on confidence because everytime he touches the ball he fumbles it or gives a free kick away.

6. Petracca 5. Lever 4. Oliver 3. Brayshaw 2. Langdon 1. Jackson

Played for Casey, could of had him for draft pick 55.

6. Clarry 5. Viney 4. May 3. Petracca 2. Jackson 1. Lever. Special mention to the Weed, Harmsey's first quarter and Brayshaw's last.

Poach Clarry's best mate Jy Simpkin. Can play inside and out. Wonder when Laird from the Crows becomes a free agent?

There there seems to be two types of midfields. One, like us is filled with see-ball-get-ball types (Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes, Petracca, etc). Like bees to a honeypot, we fight hard for first possession but often can't get space or a clean possession and have no one on the outside to give it to. If we do get possession our way forward is often via series of backward handballs or via a hack kick forward. Then there's the second type, like Brisbane that have a good mix of inside and outside midfielders who are often happy to wait for us to get first possession and then sweat on them rugby-style in congestion to get a turnover. They are then so well structured/positioned that they are able to get clean possession out of the congestion and kick to their forwards before our midfield comes flooding back. Most of our problems this year come from the midfield.

Two things Ed can't do. 1. Beat a man one-on-one, particularly in the air. 2. Kick.

Six word assessment: Lose the midfield, lose the game. Six sets of shoulders: Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Langdon and Brayshaw.

The baby had been thrown out with the bathwater I see! Needs to be played in right position.he is a forward flanker like Melksham. Need to stop putting the pill on top of his head and have two 195 cm defenders crash over him every time. Forward line needs two talls. Weed and Jackson. Two smalls Pickett and ?. And two mid-sized flankers. The balance of the Hawthorn game has gone already.

The absence of leadership was stark tonight. Four goals down, no one wanted to lead. Do the inspirational. Pick a team mate up and say: come with me. So called leaders Jones, TMac, etc were doing the bare minimum. Viney and Gawn provided little. May and Lever were decent. It all looked too hard. Perhaps they were looking for an excuse and the four-day break provided that. They should have been playing for their lives.

Out: TMac, HArmes, Brayshaw, Fritta In Vanders, Bennell, Tomlinson, Spargo.
-
What TMac, Hannan, Fritsch, Pickett, Viney, Jackson, Harmes, OMac, Brayshaw and Weideman served up was pathetic. Heads need to roll.

6. Lockhart 5. Lever 4. Petracca 3. Gawn 2. May 1. Hibberd
-
Lockhart, Lever and Petracca the only ones to break even. Gawn, Viney, McDonald are not leaders' bootlaces.

Definition of ineffective.
-
Harmes is hopeless.
-
So what happens from here? We bust a gut to bridge the margin in the second and third quarters. Port play smart footy and we fall short by two or three goals.
-
Midfield is a shambles.
-
Philosophical question. If your ruckman is winning the tap but the opposition is dominating the clearances. Is it the fault of the midfield for not sharking those hitouts, or the fault of the ruckman for not hitting it to the right positions?
-
Out: HArmes, Brayshaw, Kossie and Nev. In: Sparrow, Tomlinson, ANB and Rivers.
-
Harmes has been hopeless most of the year. Stupid free kicks, fumbling, missing easy shots... Time to give Sparrow a look.
-
Not sure I agree with this. If you win the tap out but we lose the clearance then your effectiveness must be in question. And for a ruckman if you only take three marks then I don't see how you feature in the votes ahead of guys that won their positions like Lever, May and probably Melksham...

Max was basically ineffective all night. Viney was superb.
