  1. Surely it's pragmatic to appoint someone who has racing industry links over someone who is going to potentially rock the boat with some of the stakeholders due to an issue that has nothing to do with football.
  2. Doesn't take much to get a good review during pre-season. He is clearly not as lean as he was when he was in career best form. He might be doing everything right when he's at the club but he may not be doing all the extra little things away from the club that he was doing a few years back. He's been starting on the bench the past couple of weeks and losing minutes in the midfield to other players. He's down in the pecking order right now.
  3. I think Oliver's biggest issue right now is that he isn't fit enough. 78% game time is well below what he was doing at his best when it was 88% on average, also think he has lost a bit of pace and power. Doesn't explode out of contest like he used to. I'm not sure if there's a good reason why he couldn't get that fitness base back though.
  4. Halfway to the bye and a trip to Perth is about a good a time as any to rest Gawn.
  5. Not worried about who rucks after Max. We'll find someone servicable to do the job. Key forwards and key backs much bigger issues.
  6. Wasn't this due to be wrapped up by the end of the month? Feels like things have gone silent.
  7. Anyway if Cats reckon Oliver completes them then they can probably do better than offering us a late first rounder in a compromised draft.
  8. I really enjoy First Crack but not sure why Jay Clark is on it. It's supposed to be a post round game analysis show. Surely there are enough footy shows where journos give us their hot takes already.
  9. Hawthorn sacked Clarkson with a year on his contract. Carlton sacked Teague with a year left on his contract. Neither would have had the Covid discount the AFL put in for a few clubs.
  10. Yes I understand that, but there is no way he's getting $1.6m next year a good chunk of that would be his remaining payments for this season. If he got sacked this year whatever he is to be paid this year doesn't really matter (It's unlikely he would be sacked until late in the year anyway). His salary next year would be the thing that would be more of a challenge to deal with but a team paying out a coaches contract for a year is hardly unheard of.
  11. How much of that is this year and how much of that is next year?
  12. $500k was the starting point for a senior coach fifteen years ago. A lot more money in the game now. I would be surprised if there were many senior coaches on less than $600k these days.
  13. How much did Hawthorn have to pay out when they sacked Clarkson?
  14. Who? The club? They publicly set finals as the minimum expectation this year.
  15. Because a coach has never been sacked with a year to run on their contract before.
  16. If we miss finals for a second year in a row then I don't know how the club justifies Goodwin staying on next year.
  17. I think it's pretty obvious where all the leaks were coming from last season and why things have been far more quiet this year.
  18. Depends how much they want Kozzy
  19. He was a gun who had a massive personal crisis hit him as soon as he got to the club. It's pretty unlucky.
  20. His skills let him down.
  21. They got unlucky with Hogan
  22. I reckon Jackson coming back is still a big watch. His press conference was done just to shut down the noise. He was told to say the right thing so they could focus on the season.
  23. Reminiscent of 2022 where we would switch on for a quarter to win and cruise for the rest of the game. Not going to hack it against good sides.
  24. Really disappointed with how we closed out that game and our last quarters remain a massive problem. Should be able to pile on the pain against a fledgling Richmond side. We visibly put the cue in the rack. Had no right to do that after our first five weeks.
  25. Simply not an AFL standard player.
